Go into System Information, then click Hardware Resources to expand it, then IRQs, and it'll tell you what everything is using.

Originally, I had a cardbus wifi card, which kept sending XP loopy in addition to freaking out the soundcard. I can't change IRQ slots in my bios so I was stuck with it, bought a USB wifi and it, typically, went straight onto the one the other card was using.

Looking at them now, my Ethernet card uses IRQ11 and I can't ever remember iTunes acting nutty when I was wired.

Right - cheers for that, I will have a look on my computer when I get home from work.

Picked this up today.

Apple Event

Apple is holding an event on September 5th. While the last event focused on the stunning new iMac this one is likely to focus on iPods. I am very interested to see if the new iPods run a version of Apple's Mac OS. While others believe that Apple's only strenght is industrial design, the reality is the software is the key to their success. People will surely try to copy their "look" but the software "feel" is the real barrier. The more people that use the MAC OS the more people are likely to buy other Apple products, notably MACs

Wooooooooohoooooooo - Finally, iTunes gets TV shows for the UK!  It's ofFicial n everything, though prices much higher than States  - £1.89 an episode, instead of £0.99 over there.

Unfortunately, my iPod is no longer syncing, with iTunes saying it (and my nano) are corrupted, but it is unable to restore them.  Think it may be due to a Vista update, but not sure.

Apple iPod Event

Yesterday, Noah Blackstein mentioned that Apple sent out invitations to a "special event" on September 5th. The invitation clearly signals iPod related announcements. The better websites in the Apple rumor mill are suggesting that the company will convert all iPods to flash, a new flatter and wider nano (presumably to offer better video capabilities), and touchscreen video iPod modeled after the iPhone. In addition, the Mac operating system in use on the iPhone will be used on the new iPods (which may mean the end of the infamous and highly successful click wheel in some models).

Like Noah, I have been a vocal Apple bull. Also, like Noah I am a big believer in the Mac market shares story and think that the software side of Apple is an underappreciated asset.

I have a question. If anyone can help me here.

I don't have an iTunes account at the moment and I'm thinking of getting one.

The thing is, because I live in Germany, I will be restricted to the German iTunes site. Does this mean I can only buy from that site, as I would imagine, which would mean only the songs and or tv programmes stored in that Store or can one use the whole apple iTunes Store?
Iow, Is the search engine restricted to the German Store?

It won't really matter for music and free Podcasts, as log as I can search for them but at the moment there are no tv programmes or films on offer in the German site, and I can't see me wanting to download any of the German speaking shows anyway.
I would rather download English (original language) language films and shows that German synchronized stuff.

It's a bit wank if this is the case.

moby, i vaguely remember someone (possibly Brad) saying if you buy a giftcard for the US store and use it on your account it enables you to buy things that aren't available on the UK one, so that might be worth looking into?

Aye, I remember that.

I think you have to give an address though, so I'll have to get in touch with a couple of mates who'll let me use their's.

Bit of a pain though. There should be one store for the EU, or maybe one for the Euro market and a market each for the other currencies.

I think it's against EU law selling  the same music at different prices in the EU, so maybe at sometime in the future, when the guard changes in Brussels, we'll get some action on it.

I'll probably be old and deaf by then though.   :P

Assuming everything is on your computer anyway, I'd try resetting the ipod to the factory settings.

I tried clicking 'restore' but it comes up with another error message saying i'm not connented to the Internet, when I clearly am.  ???

Last resort would be uninstalling itunes and starting it all again I suppose.

hmm, had a little google for you Jess, only thing specific that's coming up is this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304893 but it's very much a mac-specific software issue by the looks. Odd.

Thanks Claire for trying. That's very strange. I've left it for tonight anyways, will have another go tomorrow, hopefully it might have corrected itself.

If anyone else has any bright ideas I would be most grateful.  :)

Sounds like possibly a deeper windows issue than an ipod specific one.

I used to have that problem with my nano.......I had to take it onto another computer and restore it on that one. Take it back to mine 'clean' restore it again and then put my music on.........

Then I got a mac and it all worked fine.

It was still the same today when I tried it again, so uninstalled iTunes and installed it again. Still coming up with the error message over and over and saying i'm not connected to the internet but its sync'ed with my iPod as far as I can tell.

Stupid thing.

I'll try that on my brothers computer when he's not in and see if it does the trick.  :)

You might not be far wrong here, nidge, as since the end of August both my iPod's are not being correctly recognised by Vista, iTunes reports them as corrupted (despite the fact that they work just fine), and my internet sporadicaly dislikes certain pages on the net, either loading them up as blank, or saying that they don't exist/cannot be connected to.

Weird thing happened the other night. A message popped up and asked if I wanted to upgrade to the latest itunes... so I did. Then when I restarted the PC, all my music had vanished in itunes! Everything was wiped out. Of course the music is still in Windows, but why did iTunes do that? I lost all my popular music, my mixes the lot!
I just dragged and it pasted from windows into itunes again, and it was back again.
Did anyone else have this problem?

Could this problem I had something to do with this software update from Apple for the iphone? It mentions on the BBC that problems like this could affect persons who havent even tamperred with their phone...  :-\

iPod Touch - Yay or Nay?

a. brilliant, but limited in size - no good if you're ever going to want to put much on it, or store movies (which is kinda the point)
b. if you are buying one...

go to http://www.laredoute.co.uk/
type 0065587 into the search box
make sure to select the right size you want - it's not terribly clear
go through the payment section, INCLUDING the card details (you don't pay straight away)
on the page after card details enter the code 0256

30% off, and free delivery (in the case of the 16GB, a saving of over £90)

:wave

Storage was the only issue I had with it but realistically you're not going to want or need to keep many full length movies on the thing anyway so switching out movies isn't thatmuch of an issue.

I've had 1 since the first weekend they came out, and am an owner of multiple Ipods/Nanos/shuffles etc.

16GB of storage is plenty for everyday use (I have a 80GB Ipod to hold my library), and the screen, functionality of the product is superb.  It amazes me how many unlocked wifi systems I pass by on the streets in London!

Yep, sounds right - I use my current 30gb for movies (actually use it as my DVD player pretty much, hook it to the TV and watch full quality DVD rips) and I'll just swap off and on what I want.

But you know what some peopleare like - they want their ipod to hold everything they own, whether they like / need / want it or not. ;)

Anyone here having an issue with itunes over a vista machine.

I've got apple tv synched up downstairs and i've been ripping movies and it keeps hanging and then doing arse all when playing.

I suspect it might have something to do with my copy of itunes which since the 7.4.3.1 update looks like being corrupted, now every time i start it up it says

"Itunes was not properly installed, if you wish to import or burn CD's you need to reinstall itunes"

However even when i remove it entirely from the control panel and then reinstall it , it just seems to do exactly the same. anyone got any ideas?

Bought, tried, impressed.

Only downside is the home button, everything else runs really smoothly but the home button is a pain in the arse to use, it works but takes the gloss off an easy and slick bit of kit. Would've been nice is the back buttons that appear at various points allowed you to go back to the homepage instead of stopping at the first menu option on each forcing you to use it.

Posted this in old ITunes thread, but thought I'd 'widen' the audience and do it here as well

'This may be old news to the Apple fans out there, but Tech Crunch is reporting the new version of iTunes (v 7.5) supposedly contains all the code to operate a video-on-demand movie rental business. Apple just needs to light it up. So, in the future, maybe you'll be able to rent Zoolander from iTunes instead of sending some little kid into Blockbuster to do it for you'.

Help! Two questions...
1. In itunes, and in the Playlist section on the left... why do I have most playlists listed twice? Would it harm anything if I deleted one of the duplicates? Dont know how they got there, but it could be something to do with me getting a new PC and transferring all itunes data from the old to the new.
2. When I 'Get Info' and edit a track number from say '14' to 'blank field'... it will not edit it in the Tracks Properties in Windows. Also if I change it in the Properties Windows, it will not change it in itunes. Why is this? Could it be that one or the other does not support a blank field? This is a pain in the arse if I want to select as many as 100 tunes and wish to get rid of the track number to 'blank'. Any ideas how to tackle this? I might have to download 'tag and rename' to fix it?

Anyone... ? This is driving me nuts.

I can blank out the tag in itunes, however, it still does not change the tag in Windows if the Field is 'blank'. Very strange this because if I change the tags in itunes with something in the field, it DOES change it in Windows.

The only other option is to do it once in iTunes, and then do it once again in Windows. This 'blank' field seems not to be liked by either! Really annoying. How does it work on yours?

My iPod recently wiped again, but it wasn't so much of a crisis this time. I was becoming increasingly fed up with the majority of the songs on it anyway and have recently got a new laptop so I thought it would be a good opportunity to start afresh.

Now, I am doing this, but there is a problem. I'm using floola when previously I have used iTunes for updating. Now I don't know whether this has any bearing on what's wrong, but I appear to have lost the memory of the songs that were previously on the iPod but were recently wiped? It's an 80gb (8)), you get 76 when you take away all the workings and I've used up about 16 gig. Yet, so far, I've only put on about 800 or so songs?

Any help would be much appreciated.
