No, I know we didn't pay £20m (I did say give or take a few million ).  I take your points, but all I was saying is that even at £20m (arguably a fair bit more too) Modric would be better value for money, at least for the short-term.  Ok if he commands a fee like £30m-£40m that's a totally different kettle of fish.  As for whether he'd come here, who knows?

Give it up. Modric is class and has shown it agains big clubs. He bossed the game at Anfield was immense in the PL against all and sundry. I have faith in KK and what he sees in Henderson but we have payed for ability and potential. Henderson has looked decidedly crap against his own age group in the internationals and this bothers me not in the least because we didn't sign him for the U/21s. We signed him to be a ten year player for liverpool and my guess is the scouting team already know how he fits for us.

Comparing a kid with potential to a proven performer who plays a different role anyway is just retarded.

Someone made a comparison between the two and i called the comparison retarded. I think it's more about how much the club that's selling value their player and there's certain terms such as how far they are into a contract and what not that play a huge role.
Sunderland knew we are looking to spend,he's been developed through their own youth system. They we're never going to let him go on the cheap. He's English and been capped internationaly whilst being a regular and an important player last season for Sunderland. He's under 21 and has huge potential. 16m might be a lot when you look at it, you might think to yourself "is he worth this?" the simple answer is no but was it a fair price to pay considering? I think the answer to that is yes.
We could of picked up a foreign player for far less that could probably show what he's capable of straight from the off for under 10m but we wouldn't be so chuffed when he's playing for Real 2 years later.

The press and rival fans can have their giggles and banter but we should not drop to that level of supidity and remember we're far more clever than they are.

I reckon Henderson will turn out to be a great signing but what I disagree with is completing tackles being better than completing interceptions. With interceptions it show that a player has the ability to not be out of position, is able to cover the 'angles' and generally have great movement off the ball. Compare that to tackles, yes they are very important but can suggest that a player often is caught out off position, doesn't have great 'defensive' ability off the ball and has to often resort tracking back when out position, to break up the play -- tackle opponents.

Tackles seemed a poor indicator too. There was the awkward issue of the great Italian defender Paolo Maldini. “He made one tackle every two games,” Forde noted ruefully. Maldini positioned himself so well that he didn’t need to tackle. That rather argued against judging defenders on their number of tackles, the way Ferguson had when he sold Stam.
