I know its a Chris Bascombe quote but

Gary McAllister and Sean O’Driscoll will not be part of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom team. Pep Lijnders says.

Everyone reporting the same. Interesting that O'Driscoll is gone too. I was of the understanding that he was a really good coach and according to Brendan, one of the best around? Surely, a man of that calibre is worth keeping on at least until the end of the season while the new management team gets more accustomed to the players and the league?

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Glenn Driscoll (Head of Performance) and Chris Davies (Head of opposition analysis) also said to be leaving.

That is disappointing news. The club is crying out for a world class goalkeeping coach. We've not had one since Valero left with Rafa.

I would even go as far as to say all our goalkeeper issues from Pepe's loss of form to Migs flaws stem from the loss of Valero and not replacing him with the a proper world class coach

Valero is now coaching in Madrid with Rafa and Tranmere's ex goalkeeping coach is still here following on from Mike Kelly who was openly considered a joke of a coach where the keepers would deliberately blast the ball as far as they could just to see the 69 year old run after the ball

Buvac and Peter Krawietz in as per this article and we have the brains behind Dortmund's success over the past few years hopefully ready to lead a new Liverpool revolution.

Very encouraging stuff if so.

Sad really for O'Driscoll and Gary Mac having just been appointed but apaprently Macca's been offered an alternative role which I hope he takes on as we need people like him at the club.

You may be right. Anything he needs for youth--- first team coaching. My point is we need more ex LFC players involved in the every day operations of the club. Promote that option and cover all costs.

We might be one of the few big clubs in the world without this. Not good.

Besides, another good thing to come out of doing that is avoiding the inexplicable transformation from ex-LFC player to zombie pundit.

Gary Mc given a new role at the club may just be to keep him around till Klopp decides on his back room team, managers who are starting at a new club in a new Country usually appoint someone from the club to help them out.

You might say that, but there's not much to support it. Reina injured his hip which limited his ability to turn, he's never been the same since. Mignolet's problems were clear when he arrived. Coaches don't turn flawed players into perfect ones, that isn't how it works.

What is telling is that Achterberg was the only member of the first team coaching staff to be kept on when Brendan Rodgers took over, the only one to survive the cull over the summer and looks set to repeat the feat now.

My guess is that people at the club know something you don't.

Absolutely. Kenny is such a class act and loves the club so much...he's Kenny Dalglish. He's the true ambassador though.

In the broader context, we need a few ex-LFC players to be involved in the operations of the club (at different levels). I'd like to see a lot more of that personally.

Rafa 'got it' which is why he brought Kenny back. Which is why he showed new players dvds of our history etc. Something tells me Klopp gets it as well.  :-*

My guess is that people at the club know something you don't.

A good coach doesn't turn 'flawed players into perfect ones'. But they can turn good players into great or even 'perfect' players. Pepe Reina was a world class goalkeeper until Valero left

Here is a true story about Xabi Valero and Liverpool.

Most people know that when Rafa was sacked he stayed on Merseyside for a while. But not many know that Xabi Valero also stayed on Merseyside even when Rafa went to Milan (initially). Even when Rafa had a break before taking the Napoli job Valero stayed on Merseyside.

Reason being that Reina was trying to keep Valero as his coach. To a point when the Cancers were looking for a replacement for Rafa said that they would keep him on in the new Backroom team. But they hired Hodgson and he brought Mike Kelly as assistant manager and goalkeeping coach so no Valero.  Valero eventually joined Rafa at Milan as 'video analyst' then followed him to Napoli. He's now coaching Casillas at Madrid.

He was hired as a video analyst at Milan because he also trained the strikers telling them how a goalie defends his box and what side they tend to dive during penalties. He trained under former Liverpool goalkeeper coach Ochotorena (who trained Dudek for the 2005 penalties in Istanbul).

Following 2 world class coaches in Ochotorena and Valero the club have had Kelly and Achterberg. I think it's safe to say that we have not had experienced coaches

John Achterberg did not have top flight coaching experience prior to being hired by Liverpool

Liverpool have not had a goalkeeper in world class form since Valero left Liverpool. It's no coincidence

About the coaches leaving: I don't see it as a bad thing. If we're honest, we haven't been successful for a while. We hire a coach who has been successful recently. He wants to bring his staff. Of course he should be allowed to do that. He wants to put himself in a position of authority. Let him do that. Give it some time. I would be surprised if Klopp had no intention to have former players/staff members around him. Later on, that is.

This is Klopp's choice. Trust him.

Ideally I want our auld heads to get together, the likes of Kenny, Evans, Carra, God and Hansen etc to come up with a style and structure for our football club to continue ala Barcelona to create an idealistic model that would start a dynasty.coaches can come and go but our football philosophy will stay the same

A good coach doesn't turn 'flawed players into perfect ones'. But they can turn good players into great or even 'perfect' players. Pepe Reina was a world class goalkeeper until Valero left

...And he got injured. He hasn't got back to that form, even when he was working with Valero at Napoli, and is now happy to sit on the bench.

Valero is a great coach, no doubt about it, he also played a significant role in making Torres as prolific as he was, but that doesn't mean Achterberg is a poor one.

He was appointed by Rafa too, remember? And not one of Dalglish, Comolli, Rodgers or Klopp has found him wanting.

Will you be bringing any of your backroom staff?

Of course. My two ‘brothers-in-mind’ – Zeljko and Peter, great guys. You will feel it when you see them – they are cool, they are football maniacs. They work pretty hard and they are my perfect partners in this job, because as a manager you always have to make decisions and always have to think about so many different things. In my opinion, it’s very important that you have somebody you can talk to. We can talk about everything. I make the decisions, of course, but I need very good people around me. Not only these two guys – I’m really looking forward to meeting the rest of the LFC staff, I want to learn from them and use their power. Of course, that will take time, when I know what they are all able to do. At the moment, we start with these three guys; we have Pep and John in our training team, two Dutch guys. It’s the first time I’ve worked together with Dutch guys – it’s not so far away from Germany so we will see, maybe we can talk in German! I’m looking forward to it.
