No real easy games in this league anymore - anyone can beat anyone on their day.  However, I do expect 6 points from our 2 home games, although 4 wouldn't be the end of the world, and at least 2 from the away ones.  Between 9-11 points would be a solid return from the first 5 games, anything more than that and we'll be buzzing.

Bournemouth is a particularly difficult game as it's their first time in the Prem and their first trip to a major ground and their first clash with a romantic top table team. However in these circumstances they either shine or they wilt. And even if they shine, we just have to make sure we shine brighter and dominate and make our home advantage and our somewhat better players, count. And we can.

Still, it's a good time to play us. We're not up to speed yet by a long way.

7 from the next 4 as that keeps us at 2 pts per game.
That should be a minimum goal for the season.

It could be argued that the best time to play these hard away fixtures is now when the other top teams haven't yet fully clicked as a unit. It's important that we at the very least do not lose these games.

Bournemouth will be huge in terms of easing the pressure a little bit coming into these fixtures.

Given the results over this weekend, this couldn't be more true.

Stoke was meant to be a tough fixture for us and by all accounts it was, but no one was expecting Chelsea or Arsenal to drop points.  No doubt there may be more of these "shocks" earlier in the season especially when teams are trying to bed in new players/formations etc.

3 points will be vital against Bournemouth and that will just heap more pressure on those around us... hopefully allowing them to slip up against us.

(A) Stoke: 3
(H) Bournemouth: 3
(A) Arsenal: 1
(H) West Ham: 3
(A) Man United: 1

Win our games against Bournemouth and West Ham, draw with United/Arsenal and I think we're in a good position.

That would be an excellent result. 10 points from three hard away games where we got nothing last year and two home games. I hope we go for containment against Arsenal and United, nicking draws there would be very valuable, but not a crisis if we do not. We should focus on bettering our results against midtable teams and lower.

If we're looking at getting 10 points from every 5 matches then a win at home against West Ham will see us reach that mark a game early.  That would mean the Utd game would basically be a free roll.

Really good start to the season after the first 3 matches.

Seven points out of a possible nine is brilliant, and I see no reason why we can't get four more in our next two.

We're looking good for about 11/15 for the first 5. West Ham are looking poor so far, and United look like they're still getting in their stride. Should be able to get 3/1 from the next two games, which would be massive.

United are there for the taking right now in my opinion, so whilst 4 would be a fantastic return from the next 2 (and be a brilliant start to the season overall) ... I'm gunning for 6.

Away v Stoke - 3p
Home v Bournemouth - 3p
Away v Arsenal - 0p +1
Home v West Ham - 3p
Away v Man Utd - 1p

+1 from my predictions so far. Still think 10/15 would be a solid haul for us in the first five.

Indeed. West Ham look like a side that will be better in away games than at home. Benteke could really come into his own in a fixture like this, occupying both CB's physically and aerially to create space for those behind him. Giroud didn't bully them enough which is a big reason why Arsenal came unstuck when West Ham packed the edge of the box with bodies.

I don't see why we can't go for 6 points in our next two. United are toothless in attack, especially when compared to this free-flowing Arsenal side we just kept at bay, so I don't see why we can't score once or twice and keep a clean sheet against them at the back.

United have been as solid as we have been in defense. It's looking like a 0-0 right now, but that could change next game.

Arsenal (A) - 2-2
West Ham (H) - 3-1
Manchester United (A) - 0-2

13 points.

I've got the results right, but the score lines wrong so far. Still on course for the 13 points I predicted. :)

I do fancy us to do a number on United - it's been a while since we got anything there so we're due one. It's the Hammers I'm concerned about. You tend to know what you're getting with Arsenal and United. West Ham are too unpredictable. We could hammer them or get stung ourselves, there's no middle ground there. It's a bit like Villa, Swansea, those sort of teams. You don't know what you're getting.

Still, the optimist in me can see us getting 6 from the next 2 quite easily if we pop our chances away. As has often been said, 2 points a game will more often than not get you CL footy. As long as we stay ahead of the curve on that then we'll be fine. Anything above that will be a very nice bonus indeed :)

The recent form of Utd and Liverpool could mean that this is going to be the most turgid game of football ever played.
Will you please kindly refrain from all this rational common sense bollocks.

That was brilliant! Sturridge scoring all three, our defense miraculously not conceding anything... boss times.

Stoke A - 3
I think we can get a scrappy win out of this. Stoke play much better under Hughes though, and this game is a good test for the spirit of our team. I hope for a 2-1 victory with Ings scoring and Henderson from the spot.

Bournemouth H - 3
I think we will fly out the gates at home and get a quick 2-0 lead (Markovic, Milner). After that the game will be boring as shit, with Bournemouth getting better and better. They'll score and we'll be lucky to win 2-1 in the end (like the Southampton game last season).

Arsenal A - 1
We set up deep and absorb their attacking threat, scoring one on the counter (Benteke). They will be better than us all game but we'll only concede one to Giroud. 1-1 stalemate.

West Ham H - 0
Like every season, after a good result away from home we get surprised at home and struggle to create and score. West Ham sit deep and nick a lucky 1-0 win.

Man Utd A - 1
In a see-saw game the lead changes twice before the game ends in a 3-3 draw. Ibe, Milner and Benteke to score.

Norwich (H) - 3
Aston Villa (H) - 1
Everton (A) - 1
Spurs (A) - 3

The United game can go either way, hopefully we can put a shift in like we did at the Emirates.

Spurs away is another tricky one.  Hoping Kane is still firing blanks and we can sneak a goal or two in this one.

I think a lot depends on the United result. Two losses in a row and a month without a win is a confidence killer. A draw is something small to build on, and a win is a huge boost.

Man Utd A - 0
Norwich H - 3
Aston Villa H - 1
Everton A - 1
Spurs A - 1

Man Utd A - 1
Norwich H - 3
Aston Villa H - 1
Everton A - 1
Spurs A - 3
=9 points

Man Utd A - 3

Aston Villa H - 1
Everton A - 1

We have as many points as I predicted so far and I'd gladly take a point at Old Trafford if we win the two home games after it.

A point at OT will be a decent start for the first 5 games. Not a great start but not a poor start. I'd probably have wanted 10pts from the first 5 but with the 3 tough away games, I'd take 8. If we lose at OT, it's a poor start.

Regarding winning home games, that's what we thought after Arsenal away too (that we'd beat West Ham). There's no point getting draws away if you lose at home.
I always said we had the best two teams on Merseyside… Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves.

From the next 5:

Man Utd (A) - 1
Norwich (H) - 3
Aston Villa (H) - 3
Everton (A) - 1
Spurs (A) - 3

I'd hope to win at both Spurs and Everton but if we can take 4 pts there, win the two home games (which are key) and not lose at OT, we will be doing very well indeed.

I feel the next 3 games will be vital between now and Christmas in terms of momentum. We really need 6 or 7 points from the next 3 games.
I always said we had the best two teams on Merseyside… Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves.
