I know people will say its only after two games, but I think Southampton should be excluded from this table this season and Everton included instead. Saints look so unprotected without Schneiderlin, and also have Europa League this season - which was Everton's main downfall last season incidentally.
They both have a roughly equal chance of making top 4: 0%. Not sure there's much reason to include either.

I don't think people should kneejerk on the back of 2 results just yet, Everton were shite last year even before they started playing EL. They'll be sitting ~8-9th this year IMO

There's no rush to replace Southampton.  Let's see after 10 rounds.

Regardless of the stage of the season, it does give you great hope if we can get a 4/5 point gap here on our main competitors early on. One win and one loss from our two aways at OT and The Emirates is above par.

So after tonight's result the APLT remains as such:

City +2
Us +2
Man Utd 0
Arsenal -1
Chelsea -3
Spurs -3
Southampton -5

we have put ourselves in a position that even if we lose to arsenal next week, all teams below us will not be able to overtake us. Of course if we take points of arsenal, they go further down the ALPT.  Here's hoping

I'd be happy with a game plan similar to Stoke and set up for the 0-0. It'd be a good result.

I'd like to see that when we go away to the likes of Chelsea Arsenal and City.

Under Rodgers we have always played our game and gotten beaten at those away days,we need to play a more tactical game and be defensively solid and hit on the break.

I'd rather share the spoils playing that way than play our expansive game and get beat,hopefully our new backroom staff can change Rodgers mindset who has been really poor tactically in those away fixtures.

Truth be told we don't have an expansive game at the moment. So it's play the way we have for the first two or nothing I'm afraid. Full week to work on better shape before next Monday.

Next Mondays the chance, I reckon we will also if the first two games are anything to go by. Thats for another thread though, table on here looks well. Hopefully we can keep this going, another 3-4 pts from the next 3 games would be excellent stuff and we're on course. Nicking points against our rivals would be another bonus.

It not only keeps us at +2, but also takes away two points from Arsenal resulting in a further -2 for them. Considering our record at Emirates and a 2 point swing against Arsenal in the APLT, a draw in this game would be highly beneficial to us.

The downside is that City and Chelsea can gain 2 points on us by winning their par one games.

While I have a few moments, a little look ahead to this weekend's Premier League action and how it will affect the APLT.

First up, it's Manchester United v Newcastle United. The Red Devils are the only team to have a perfect Par score to date, and they'll want to keep up that early season momentum with a win against big-spending Newcastle United. So far the Magpies have managed a home draw with Southampton and a loss away to Swansea, but a less technical Manchester United side will provide them with a different test. Last season, the lads in black and white could only collect a paltry four points on their travels, so they will be hoping that Man Utd's midweek exertions in Europe will have an impact.

It's a Par 3 for Man Utd.
Man Utd win = 0
Draw = -2
Newcastle Utd win = -3

Next up teetering Tottenham travel to table-topping Leicester hoping for a much-needed win. It's a Par 3 away, and while Leicester have a 100% record this season, last season saw them collect the maximum points at home on just seven occasions. Anything but a win would see Spurs dropping dangerously low in the APLT, and even at this early stage, would be serious cause for concern.

Par 3 for Spurs.
Spurs win = -3
Draw = -5
Leicester win = -6

On to Sunday, and Champions Chelsea travel to West Brom, hoping to regain some ground after being pasted by Manchester City last week. The baggies have collected just 1 point from their two games so far and, like Leicester, won just seven home games last season. Despite that, it's a Par 1 match for Chelsea and the perfect opportunity to make up some ground on the APLT, where they are some way off the pace.

Chelsea win = -1
Draw = -3
West Brom win = -4

Manchester City, meanwhile, travel a few miles West to Everton and will hope to continue their title challenge with the maximum points again. The Toffees have started brightly and seem to have more about them that last season, when they lost five times at Goodison Park. Par 1 for City, but they'll want all three points on a ground where they have not traditionally performed to their best.

Man City win = +4
Draw = +2
Everton win = +1

Southampton have every need to make up points on the APLT, where they currently languish in last place and face the very real threat of expulsion from the table entirely. Travelling to newly promoted Watford, the Saints will be keen to improve their fortunes. It's a par 3, so the best they can hope for is to hold steady on minus five, but they will be wanting to show a clean pair of heels to the relegation spots in the traditional table as soon as possible.

Southampton win = -5
Draw = -7
Watford win = -8

Monday night rounds off the action with an APLT head-on clash between Arsenal and Liverpool. The Gunners will be looking for the maximum, while a draw would be a great result for the reds. A win for Brendan Rodgers' reds would open up an astonishing eight point gap between the sides in the APLT.

Arsenal win = ARS -1, LFC +1
Draw = ARS -3, LFC +2
Liverpool win = ARS -4, LFC +4

Far too early in the season to be worrying about these things.

Obviously, it's not going to be a worry at any level now. It was meant as a point to consider when discussing how a win/draw affects the APLT, which we always do in this thread.

Love this thread and how it looks at the moment.

A draw at Arsenal would be a good result for both the APLT and the actual table.

2 points a game is where we need to aim. We would be above that with a draw. Obviously a win and a loss at arsenal and utd is better than two draws, but two draws stops either of them picking up 3 pts aswell.
I always said we had the best two teams on Merseyside… Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves.

After Saturday games but before Sunday kick offs:

City +2 (Par 1 at Everton Sunday)
Liverpool +2 (Par 1 at Arsenal Monday)
United -2
Arsenal -2 (par 3 vs Liverpool Monday)
Chelsea -3 (par 1 at WBA Sunday)
Spurs -5
Saints -5 (par 3 at Watford Sunday)

Good opportunity for City, Chelsea, and ourselves to punish United and Spurs. Arsenal have the toughest game APLT-wise given that anything short of 3 points will see them drop in the APLT.

Southampton in big trouble early on. I know its only early doors, but with EL commitments coming up and the start they've made, I really cant see them challenging for the top 4. I'd actually be surprised to see them get top 8.
We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

That's pretty much the feeling between Saints fans at the moment, load of my mates went to their game today and all came back pretty much confirming their view that they'll find it hard to even be in the top half of the table. Many of them predicted 12/13th at best. Seems like the loss of Lallana, Clyne, Lambert, Alderweireld, Schneiderlin and Lovren has caught up with them. A lot of their players don't seem too motivated either, with Wanyama asking to leave too. Their core of Wanyama and Schneiderlin is pretty much disbanded, they'll be a lot easier to score against this year. They're lucky they still have Fonte because without him, it could all go tits up.

Indeed. If we win we go to +4 and put Arsenal on -5!  8)

9 pts ahead (in the APLT) of the 5th place team (so to speak) would be massive even at this stage of the season

So this goes to -3 now I guess. Meanwhile we're on +2 after two very hard away games. Looking good so far.
