Worst 'unofficial' Merchandise you've had or bought?
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:07:05 pm »
Had some bad stuff in my time, including a replica kit from Coed Mawr Market in about '91 which had the sponsor written on in a substance akin to Tipp-Ex, and an 'official' signed ball where they'd put the signatures on using letraset, which subsequently peeled off after about a fortnight. Lady Lfsea just gave me this after a recent trip to India, knowing exactly my reaction...

Anyone else for a game of foodball?

Properly awful. Any similar tales?

A ticket for QPR v Liverpool August 1993. " Only face value, mate". Fair enough but it was for the November 1992 game, which I found out too late!

Bought my lad a fake shirt from soccertraids.com when the twats owned us, as he was pestering me for one, but refused to buy from the club. He already had a fake Barca one which looked pretty good. When I got are one it only had two stripes and the R fell of Gerrard straight away. Shocking!  To be fair I emailed them and they sent me a new one without sending old one back, new one had 3 stripes and a full Gerrard name. Only thing missing is the addidas sign. But for £17 for the whole kit you can't complain.

edit:
Oh the above the has just reminded me about when my mum bought me and my old man 2 tickets off a tout (on crutches) for £75 each against Blackburn when they won the league. When she come back with them we new they where fake straight away, spotted the tout, who suddenly lashed the crutches and pegged it. Must've been a miracle! Tried to get in, stewards new straight away as they had already knocked loads back, as the twats hadn't even bothered printing them for different seats, just the same 5 seats over and over again.

Never had any awful unofficial stuff as I always buy the official gear to support the club (pre and post cancer era obviously) but some of the later Reebok stuff was proper shite. Their kits used to be brilliant at one point but towards the end...

Bought an adidas 'two stripe special" carlsberg home shirt a few years ago in Tenerife, not sure what material it was but I was generating my own feckn electricity with it.
They have translated from Halmstads to Malmo, to Orebo to Neuchatel Xamax, to the Swiss national team, so I find the question insulting.

I patched it up but it broke again three days later.

I took it as a prophesy of things to come.

Bought a Liverpool T-Shirt in Kavala market (Greece) in 1998.
Put it on as soon as I bought it, had a big red Liver Bird on the front and 'Liverpool FC  YNWA' on the back.

Got off the coach back in Thassos and my wife noticed the 'Liverpool FC YNWA' was stuck to the coach seat and the big Red Liver Bird on the front was hanging off.

Cost about £2, you get what you pay for I suppose.

Was nice while it lasted though.........................................about 3 hours.

Speaking of Subbuteo (which I guess was kind of unofficial merchandise).. bought a LFC set from Jack Sharps on Whitechapel in the early 80s; the period where they seemed to go through a bit of a quality control crisis with the painting and loose weights. One of the players didn't have any red paint on the arse of his shorts. Bit of a bum deal there.

One christmas my nan got me a 'Liverpool' Mug. It was just a white mug with a red sticker on it that had a picture of a football player (Just a rogue bloke- not based on any actual player!) The writing on the sticker said LFC and the the word Player next to the shitty picture. Remember putting it in the washing up bowl to discover half of the sticker had came off after my first cuppa!

Still got the white mug though, that works fine!

For the Auld arses.
The worst unnoficial Merchandise by a mile had to be the 'Silk Scarves' sold outside the ground matchdays for roughly 10-15 pence (Early 70's). Ths 'Silky' was made from anything but silk, usually white with red print that had usually wore off all over your kecks before the match had finished. I still have one somewhere that reads 'Hanks ed Arm'. It wasnt worn around the neck, it was tied around your wrist and if you were feeling flush that week or it was a big game then you would have had one around each wrist.
Happy days.

They were great. I have a lot of affection for the old silky. 15p each, bargain. I know its inflation and that but my Mrs bought one at a Donny Osmond concert (I know, I know) and it cost a tenner.

in malaysia last year, saw a team shirt with Civerpool as the sponsor in the old carlsberg style and a premier league winners badge for 1998/1999. he still tried telling me it was original.

My stepkids bought me a Liverpool sweatshirt, that's just a red top with 'Liverpool' on the front in black and white. Looks awful. Took me 10 months to actually wear it, when I discovered it is actually nice and warm and comfortable. Still looks shocking though.
