#LFC line up tonight: Liverpool: Karius, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Lucas, Can, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Firmino, Sturridge.

#LFC subs v #SaintsFC: Mignolet, Moreno, Gomez, Stewart, Coutinho, Origi, Woodburn

Welcome news about Coutinho. Initial thoughts... 'Ooof' when I saw the midfield, felt a bit better when I saw the defence, a small 'hmn' when I saw Karius... My eyes replaced my nose, then my ears, then back again when I saw the front three... and it's still doing it now. I'll come back to it. Concerned about no Henderson or Matip on the bench, but really pleased Woodburn is on there. Deserved.

Two legged tie. Just bring something back, and let's hope it's decent. Intruiged as to how we play this.

0-0 wouldn't be a train smash, i'd be confident of turning over a 1-0 loss here as well, but I think the thinking from Klopp today is get the job done and then field a slightly weakened team at Anfield.
Maybe... I'm quite relaxed about the first leg of these things, it's seldom over before the second leg.

Surprising Lucas starts ahead of Stewart.

Why?  Stewart has never started in midfield when Lucas has been fit and not needed at CB.
Rossiter absolutely bossed it tonight. Really believe he'll end up playing more games this season than Lucas.

Henderson won't make it here. Sorry but he won't and won't

Lucas gets a start in midfield! anybody still think we don't need midfield reinforcements?

When we don't have injuries people think it's fine.
Yet when they don't need a piss i bet they still say they need a toilet you know, for when they do.

Thats the clearest analogy you'll ever see. ;D

Lucas hardly ever starts in midfield these days.

Bit baffled by Lucas in midfield. Hopefully he can put in a good performance for as along as his legs let him.

It limits our opportunity to make proactive subs though, as we'll have to take Lucas off in the second half (it would be midfield suicide not to). Likewise sturridge. So only one of Milner, Lallana and Firmino will have a chance to sit out the last twenty minutes

If we end up playing the Mancs without henderson and matip as well as Mane it'll be really annoying - they seem to constantly catch breaks when we play them.
Great to see Coutinho on the bench.

How the fuck Lucas is still getting minutes in our midfield... he's definitely doing witch craft or something

He's been poor for a few matches now. Anyway, good lineup that with decent options off the bench. I hope Coutinho gets a good 20-30 minutes as well.

I'm concerned about Henderson's absence though, he probably won't be fit in time for the United game.

Don't necessarily disagree but think he's just one of those players that gets better as he gets games.

Feel it's more to do with the opposition though. We definitely seem to use Origi more when he has Mane as an outlet with pace and can thus use his inter-play. With Sturridge, Firmino and Lallana, I imagine we are going to try to have a much faster build-up play and be cuter around and in the box.

Here's hoping they tear it up!

I suppose we could move Lucas to CB to introduce an attacking player if needs must.

Dying sick all day on the sofa waiting for this, so quite excited. Would like to see Lucas get stuck in tonight, less silly free kicks and more breaking up play. Karius could do with some confidence too so hopefully a clean sheet. Come on Redmen!

Just a question of gaining fitness now I think

Is it simply that? I thought it was just that he was in pain and had to manage his game time to recover. Suspect we're doing what we can to get him fit enough to come in to the team when the pain subsides/or the game is big enough to require him. Same situation with Henderson. I think Henderson will be starting on Sunday, but Matip is harder to be certain

Pretty much the strongest team fit plus Karius who was no1 not too long ago. Good to see Coutinho back but it will only be 15-20mins for him.

We need to get back to our level after the weekend so lets go for a good start pressing them and be a little more ruthless when we get the chance.

I didn't realise Southampton have been in such poor form. 1 win in 6 and they've started to concede quite a few goals.

Fonte out is a bonus. I don't expect this tie to be over tonight but we can surely take control. Last year's semi away to Stoke was one of our most commanding performances of Klopp's early months.

Southampton are not very good away from home. They've won just 3 of their 15 games they've played away from St Mary's so far this season. As long as we don't lose more than 1 tonight I'll be very confident in the second leg.

Sit the fuck down. Lucas is boss.

He'll play in thw "quarterback" role and will be fine. Can will be more attacking where I think he's better suited albeit relatively limited. He played there for Germany in the Euros even.

We're about 25% of the way through the tie, just so everyone knows.
