The draw is on Friday, we play one of the Winners of Groups A, C or D with the 1st leg at Anfield, there is nothing in the rules to prevent us facing the Mancs, but I'd like to play Real. Bring Macca back home and I think we could turn them over!

FC Shalke - you mean Bayer Leverkusen!  ;) ;D

Anyway Provided if they can beat Depo and the Gooners lose at Juve (in the Stadio Delle Alpi). I don't mind having Leverkusen as our opponents in the quarter-finals  8).

Ok Anthony - no probs fellow red!  8) ;D ;D

Also i wouldn't mind Real Madrid in the last 8 as well  ::) :o . But if we do meet them, the team will have to be on top form to defeat them over 2 legs!

I thought that there was a rule that says that teams from the same country cant play each other until the semis? I may be wrong but thats what i heard, I dont think it matters who we get if we play like we did

Mancs - why not?

Real Madrid or Barcelona in the final on a mucky, mucky night in Glasgow would be great, though I still have this vision of beating the Mancs on their own ground next year.

Really, I don't care - it's such an achievement (as it was for Dirty Leeds last season) to have got so far in our first year in the competition in its current guise.

'Spice Boys'?  Remember them?  This team is on a different planet.

My ideal draw

Liverpool v Real
Arsenal v Mancs
Bayern v Barca
Porto/Panathinaikos v Deportivo

The talk is very definitely about the possibility of meeting the Mancs so the rule must be gone. Meeting the Mancs at this stage would, I think, distract from the Title chase (which is why I've paired them with Arsenal  ;D ), we can't face Barca and I don't fancy Deportivo at this stage (although it would be quite some feather in the cap if we did beat them given what they've done to Arsenal & the Mancs this season).

If Bayer qualify (at Arsenal's expense) then I'd like to face them followed by Porto in the Semis just to finish off the reunion set from last year... ;D

Real would be massive but I fancy someone less energy sapping (for me  8) ) :   Schalke or Bayern would be good.

And really, we have enough bad draws.  Time for a change!  :)

We can't face Bayern because we both finished 2nd and the format of the draw is a group winner against a group runner-up with 2 teams from the same 2nd round group unable to meet. So it's Real, the Mancs or the winner of Group D which will be Deportivo (if they avoid defeat) or possibly Bayer Leverkusen (my mistake - I said Schalke!) if they win (which means Arsenal going out...)

Real... the idea of doing the Nou Camp and the Bernebau in the same year has a certain appeal to it.  ;D

Then the Mancs in the semis, to leave them with fuck all... there's nothing more deflating than a semi final loss to wipe the smile off arrogant faces.

Then Deportivo in the final for another final to remember.

But I'm dreaming now... the QF is enough and while we can beat anyone on the day, it's all I hoped for in our first year in the CL.

Leverkuesen look the 'easiest' out of the four, if it indeed ends up that way. I agree with jetski that if we could negotiate the quaters, giving Manchester a good ole rogering in the semi's would be oh so sweet but yeah the boys have done superbly to get this far especially, as previously mentioned, from such a tough group so any opponents from here on in would be a cracker to meet. I guess this is the business end.

I think as long as we re-qualify for the CL (via a nice little pre-qualifier with a Finnish team if necessary  ;D ) we should all be damn pleased with this season.

But Christ. We really have a good shot at the European Cup (I loved the way Thommo called it that in his email from the official site!).

Anyway. Last night was a blinder. I managed to bugger up my ankle ligaments playing 5-a-side on monday night and am currently on crutches, but I kind of forgot my pain when Jari slotted that penalty away. The sexy little Finnish bastard!

Anyway, for the quarters it's got to be a group winner, right (and not Barca I presume). So ManU, Deportivo or Real.

Blimeski. I think that them Mancs are much better than when we last met them, but then Dep. and Real are pretty damn good sides. But the games I'd most want to see would be Real. Stevie G up against Zidane. Sami and Raul...

Oh yes, I'd love to see Figo, Raul, Zidane AND (for a bonus) McMoneyman humbled infront of the kind of noise that the Kop generated last night. Battistuta?... ha! Oh we enjoyed his fluff and the "what the fucking hell was that?" that followed...

According to BBC Breakfast News(Rob Bonnet) this morning, UEFA have changed their minds, and where possible, 2 teams from the same country can't meet each other. This means if Arsenal qualify tonight, the Scum get Panathinaikos or Porto(typical of the jammy bastards), and we get Real or Deportivo. I've been looking for confirmation of this, but can't seem to find it anywhere. You can bet they'll change the rules at least 3 times between now and the draw ::)

No according to the drawing procedure in the uefa.com there won't be such rule.

Of course the UEFA may say feck it let's change this but if they do it at this moment of time what do you think the reaction will be for Real / Deportivo?

Think about it -- it just simply doesn't make sense to me.

Needed a fifth choice ... anyone!  I think that would have got the most votes.  I can't imagine saying that two years ago , its incredible how well the team is playing and with Hamann, Owen and Anelka to come in. What a squad.

Still 2 great games a week to look forward to. Its going to be expensive but this is what we've waited for.  ;D

1-0 to Real in Spain; 1-0 to us back at Anfield.  Penalties.

5-4 to us on penalties - they have one left at the Kop end.

Fergie says he wouldn't mind drawing us; which means he is cacking it. I would be delighted to knock them out next round, to give us plenty of time to savour the victory and them plenty of time to fester in their bitterness.

And then, a dream final, Liverpool FC V Real Madrid. The two most successful teams in European football, the red, the white, Glasgow would not know what had hit it!

Beating Man Utd in the quarters or semi's is the same thing. We'll crow until the cows come home and they'll duck for the whinging they'll do on red issue.

So unless Fergie spends 100 mil on a new defense that's not cup tied already... Let's have them next. Sami and Stephane have RVN in their back pocket.

Five wins in a row and counting... ;D

Down the raod i'm sure Kahn of Bayern is looking forward to seeing Owen again...  :o

Well, following tonight's results we cannot face Deportivo so the choice is now between Real, the Mancs & Bayer Leverkusen.

So my revised ideal draw is

LFC v Real
Deportivo v Mancs
Bayern v Barca
Panathinaikos v Bayer Leverkusen

I'd like the winner of the 4th tie in the semis and in the Final, well let's just say we still have some humble pie left to feed a certain pair of Dutchmen...  ;D

If we were to get Bayer or the Mancs I'd be happy enough - I think our best chance may be against Bayer but I'd hate to see our run of victories against the Mancs end in the European Cup...

Im really not arsed who we get. Roma were many people's tip to win the competition and we sent them packing (they couldnt score past us over two games!).

At the end of the day, we are definitley better than the mancs in a one-off situation against them, Im not too arsed about Bayer, and you have got to play Real at some stage if you want to win the tournament.

It would be good to get Real, as if we beat them the confidence would soar even higher and the best team in the competition will have been knocked out by us! Get em out the way early on  ;D

To be honest, I'm not really bothered who we draw tomorrow.  I'm just thrilled that our European rollercoaster ride is still flying round the track.

:) :) :D ;D
