Advocaat is considering quitting according to The Telegraph

Should've stuck to his guns and walked in the Summer when he wanted to.

Louise Taylor of The Guardian wrote before today's match that it's possible that both Advocaat and DoF Lee Congerton could quit following their match against West Ham. A few other newspapers are saying Congerton has already resigned.

With the way it's inevitably going at Sunderland and the disaster at Newcastle, it's very possible the North East won't have a club in the Premier League. Unless Boro goes up that is.

His wife wanted him to quit at the start of the season right?

Maybe he wants to move back home and it's putting too much of a strain on his life/family.

Stage 1 of the Sunderland manager cycle complete. next manager comes in, has a decent season, beats newcastle and they beat the drop.

shit start to next season, sack manager and repeat.

I can't imagine what it's like to support a club where you know you're already effectively relegated with 30 games still to play.

Didn't think the owner was putting enough into the team and too much infighting behind the scenes, their DoF is meant to be wanting out too for same reasons. Legacy of a lot of money pissed up the wall by previous managers for not a great deal of results.

Yeah, sounds like Congerton felt he didn't have enough control over transfers. For example, when Poyet was manager, Congerton was being overruled on signings Poyet wanted like Buckley and Scocco. Don't think there is a club in the PL of their size that has pissed away so much money over the past decade. There's absolutely no attempt at a long-term vision or plan there. Whoever they hire, is likely going to be needed as someone who can bring them back up next season, because they should be a strong candidate to go down. Even if they don't get relegated, I think they need to start looking at their youth development. They haven't brought too many players through their youth system in recent years. Henderson and Colback being the most recent ones.

Indeed. He was clearly uncertain and dithered about taking the job, was not a good sign.

Lack of quality in squad, been poor attitude within squad (I wouldn't rule out survival completely becuase they always make a late rally) and seems Advocaat has fallen out with some players, seems like didn't get transfer money he needed to rebuild squad, problems at the top.

However even with Advocaat having improved their firepower and midfield, even when they try really hard, Sunderland only seem able to get draws. Very worrying for them but if they get relegated, this has been coming a long long time.

Reported to be after Nigel fucking Pearson. Will they ever learn?
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Considering the state the club is in they could do worse in my opinion. Any manager currently in a role I would guess unless making a massive step up will stay clear plus despite Pearson coming across as a weirdo the current Leicester side has a great mentality about them. If he could install that at Sunderland its probably the only hope they will have of staying up.

He lives for jobs like this. It's a no lose situation

Keep them up then he gets the adulation and probably a nice hefty bonus. Then get sacked next season

Get them relegated then just blame the players and the board and move on again

He will organize them, whip them in to some kind of discipline, make them utterly boring and fundamental and keep them up. He knows his basics well and for once, Sunderland has made a good appointment.
