Not sure how they lost today. Wrongly disallowed goal, hit the woodwork twice, pen denied.

Why didn't Pep do what he used to at Barca and tell Messi to skin 4 players and bag a wonder goal to win the match last night?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/05/05/manchester-city-hit-transfer-ban-signing-academy-players/

Quote
Manchester City have joined Liverpool in being banned from signing academy players for tapping up two schoolboys – including one aged only 11.

City were given the same length suspension as the Anfield club, a two-year transfer embargo on players registered with a rival Premier League or EFL side in the preceding 18 months – with the second year suspended for three years.

They were also fined £300,000, £200,000 more than Liverpool, who were last month found guilty of tapping up one schoolboy footballer.

The 11-year-old City were found to have broken the rules trying to sign was a midfielder who joined them from Everton last year. The other player was a 15-year-old midfielder from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Premier League also investigated their recruitment of 16-year-old goalkeeper Louie Moulden from Liverpool but that move has been cleared to proceed.

The Premier League said in a statement: “The Premier League has sanctioned Manchester City FC for breaches of its Youth Development Rules. The breaches concern approaches to two separate Academy players whilst they were each registered with another club.

“Following an investigation, the Premier League found evidence that the club’s conduct prior to applying to register the players contravened League rules. This included evidence of contact between the club and members of each academy player’s family while those academy players were still registered with their previous clubs.

“Manchester City will pay a fine of £300,000 and will be prohibited from registering any academy players in the under-10 to under-18 age range who have been registered with a Premier League or EFL club in the preceding 18 months. This ban will last for two years. The period of this ban from 30 June 2018 onwards will be suspended for three years to be activated in the event of any similar breach by the club.

“In each case, the academy player was conditionally registered with Manchester City while the Premier League’s investigation was ongoing. As a result of the club’s breaches, the players’ registrations will be terminated on a specified date, with no compensation rights retained by the club, and the club will not be permitted to re-register them as academy players. In addition, Manchester City has offered to pay compensation to each player’s previous club, and maintain educational provision for each player until the completion of his GCSEs.”

They annihilated Palace, it must be said. Very good for their goaldifference... Even if we win both of our games, we need ManCity to lose at least one because a draw would see them get 3rd spot via goal difference. We don't look like scoring much lately unfortunately.

For me Pep was always the best manager in the world but his first season for City couldn't have been more underwhelming.

Big games for me is where you truly see the quality of any manager and his record in big games this season is absolutely appalling. It really makes me wonder if he's really good as he we all thought he was.
"We"? ;)
Nah mate. I didn't see him and still aren't completely convinced that he's the best(in terms of trophies won, of course yes, but I'm not convinced). You can only be the greatest if you can do it consistently and not just with clubs with vast amounts of resources and money.

I was one of those who said he'll find it hard in the league, at the start of the season- him and his goalie- and were soundly laughed at for being in doubt of such a great and wondrous manager and a "world class" goalkeeper.. out the door, into the street and under a bus. I spent the next few weeks licking my wounds and then went out and bought the t-shirt. OTT, but still- sometimes the group mentality can be vicious- especially when fueled by that monster that is the media.

To be fair to Man City's owners they do give managers a fair crack. Mancini got about 3 and a half years and Pellegrini was there for 3.

he'll be alright next season once they've spent 200 mill on a couple new full backs, another centre back, another goalie, and maybe a midfielder and a forward.

I think he'll be even better the following season after the next one when he spends a further 200 mill. Then, and only then, can we see the true genius that is Pep.
Right now many of his players are not at the calibre to understand his genius.

I think they will be a force next season.

They will be close to the top, but definitely not a force. They have too many old players that will need replacing in a not so distant future:

Caballero ('81)
Sagna ('83)
Bravo ('83)
Toure ('83)
Zabaleta ('85)
Fernandinho ('85)
Clichy ('85)
Kolarov ('85)
Navas ('85)
Silva ('86)
Kompany ('86)
Nolito ('86)
Fernando ('87)

Sounds like Watford gave a good account of themselves last night. Definitely not the easiest place to go on the last day.

Watford away has the potential for a slip up, and it depends on which WBA turn up....you could see a 1-1 and in the same way, you could see city winning 5-0 too.

I reckon it all depends on the first 30 mins, if WBA can stifle them or nick a goal, the crowd will get antsie and the pressure will grow.

Mind you a point for them still takes them above us on GD......we should have gone for 5 or 6.......

Apparently they did and at 3-3 looked the more likely to win. Context to that of course was Chelsea playing a second team.

I also work with a Watford fan and according to him Mazzarri is on borrowed time. Deeney didn't play last night after apparently falling out with the manager himself.

Hopefully they can rouse themselves for their final game in front of their crowd, and it doesn't go the other way with a group of players and a crowd who would take a defeat if it put the final nail in the coffin for a manager they no longer want.

Mind you a point for them still takes them above us on GD......we should have gone for 5 or 6.......

My hope is that this is in the minds of our lads on Sunday, and they go for it against Middlebrough.

Don't expect anything from West Brom tonight. They've been on the beach since they hit 40 points. 1 win in their last 10 and 5 defeats in the last 6. If City are going to slip up it'll be the Watford game, especially when you look at their away form recently, which has been surprisingly poor.

We only need Pulis to give us a bus parking masterclass then batter Boro for 3rd. He's probably been waiting to 'out tactic' Pep since the fixture list got announced.
Then in the midddle out pops a smiling glen johnson pulling up his jersey to reveal a t-shirt of suarez with a text saying. "OUR SUAREZ IS A FRIEND TO ALL COLOURS!"

Fortunately, real life is not like Football Manager. Replacing 6 senior players on the squad in a single transfer window is never an easy task. They have the money to buy 6 talented players, but the new players will need time to adapt to the club, the league etc.

Sagna Navas Willy Clichy etc.. won't be hard to replace them with better players. Giving Pep 100's of million to go after the players he wants is a City fans wet dream you'd imagine. I think he will go after Bernat again.

Just a few left for tonight

Sheikh Mansour will be happy.

Not many tickets for him to "buy" for the game tonight.
"Since its purchase by the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, Manchester City has managed to cheat its way into the top echelon of European football and create a global, immensely profitable football empire, ignoring rules along the way. The club's newfound glory is rooted in lies."
