Ding's scoring better than anybody in the tournament but he'll need to carry that on to have a chance against Selby. If not he'll get tied in knots by Selby's tactical play.

Agree with this.

Can't knock his talent, but he bores me to tears!

Hopefully Ding can just blast him off the table.

5 tons, 4 eighty+ breaks and 12 other fifty+ breaks in 23 frames of snooker.

That is a serious standard.

And yet Ronnie was by his own standards, sloppy - as you said above, some of his shot selection was bordering on reckless.

I like Ding, and I too hope he goes on to win it now. But let's not forget that Ronnie gave him some very easy starts in frames, and at crucial times in the fighback, Ding got some good running. Nothing obvious but little kisses when he missed that diminished Ronnie's options, and ultimately decided key frames.

Selby is a different animal, and won't be so generous.

I would like Barry Hawkins to win it. I like how he goes about his business without any fanfare and he's very solid in all departments. He could take some beating.

Maguire for me. Always been skirting around a level below very best but he's got the talent. A Maguire - Ding final would be my choice.

paltry

Jimmy white got 147k 100k for it in 1992

hendry got 147k in 1995 for his

Been having looking at it, when Ronnie got his first Crucible maximum break in 97 he got £147,000, & the highest break was £18,000, bonkers now the highest break prize is £10,000 & maximum £5.000.

the highest break is not a too substantial drop but the maximum break very much is. no wonder Ronnie cant be arsed going for it at times.

now mind you id murder someone for 10k but to these lads its not much, with inflation etc the mid 90s prize money for a maximum must be about 300k today

Ding pinches the first frame, that Selby looked like winning until he ran out of position & left a Red over the middle.

Great to see Ding get the better of Selby in one of the typical Selby long tactical frames. Hopefully a sign that he can hold his own in this match.

The MCs introductions are quite cringing.

It's ridiculous, makes you want to look away every time you hear that twats voice.

I always imagine they hold up big signs saying applause and whistle too, it's so so fake!

It's fucking snooker, they walk around a wooden table potting balls into pockets, it's not boxing.

Now I know the games on - so most reds that are actually closet Mancs in disguise are watching that -

But Higgins 4-0 up on Barry Hawkins.

Higgins playing some great snooker. In the last Higgins missed a sitter red to clinch the frame 69-0 up with 76 on the table (pretty much straight red to middle pocket) but Hawkins not capitalising, after getting down to the blue, hitting it to soft, and needing the rest with the Pink, which he ended up missing, for Higgins to clinch the frame.

Mid-season interval now.

Best out of 33 frames now though - so a huge amount of games left in this.

First to 17 long way to go in this

Also - Hawkins is now a massive 12-1 to win the tournament - Surely worth a punt considering we're in the semis?

True, but I felt Hawkins needed to get off to a flier. Higgins is such a solid player and isn't easy to come back against. Hawkins needs 3 of the next 4 to have a chance.

I don't know, I think Ding's matched him in this session and from what I saw of the morning session too, a far cry from last year's final. Despite the score, this match is really tight, personally think it's 50/50 who wins this.

Agree with this. Selby is playing his usual attritional game but I think Ding is dealing with it much better than he has done in the past. A 10-8 lead in a first to 17 match is nothing.
