He was happy to do more than his share of supporting LFC when alive.  Enjoying every minute of his traveling and helping and supporting his beloved Reds.

Managed to snap this one for those that did not see it.

I saw the banner last night - thought it was quality and applauded like the rest - but didn't know who he was so I opened this thread out of curiosity. OMG!  :'( Recognised him instantly from the description (it just had to be) and then saw the picture. Sitting here now writing this with tears streaming down my face.

Sincerest condolenses to him family and friends. I never knew his name but we always refer to him as the leader of "the barber shop quartet" because of the hours of singing by Bobby and his mates in Istanbul airport - the harmonies!  :D The hours we were there listening to them! Every word was sung from the heart. Legend. How Liverpool fans were - and should be IMO.

The last time I saw him was in a bar at Dublin airport on the way back from Atleti in October. He was there with all his family (a regular occurrence at Euro aways from what he said) and they were all sitting right round us, laughing, drinking, singing....

Won't be the same without seeing him around at aways! Best wishes to his family.  :wave  :'(

(Scoopex, you were just behind me then - I'm in your pic!)

I can honestly say I've never seen a bigger funeral in Liverpool,a spontaneous round of Applause rang out as his Coffin was led in to the church,a fitting tribute for a nice fella.

The Club also was well represented Sammy Lee made a short tribute to Bobby,    Jamie Carragher,Rick Parry,Bryce Morrison and Ged Pointon where also in the Congregation

Me dads just called me from the dockers pub he said it was amazing, and he's never seen a bigger funeral and he had to listen to it outside the church with hundreds of others from loudspeakers (Yes loudspeakers :o). He then went on to tell me that outside Anfield the banner idea worked so perfectly. As he was taken past the kop hundreds applauded. He then went on to put the phone in the air as all I could hear was 'Every other Saturday' and 'the fields of Anfield rd'. I'm sure the Johnny Barnes song will get a good airing too a bit later. ;D

I'm sure Bobby would be proud to see the way the day panned out so spectacularly.

Apologies for the quality.
Lots of well known banners flown today to show their respects, which goes a little way to show the respect the man was held in.
Great to see people of all ages at Anfield too.

From DNA Dave (a good mate of Bobby's - taken from The Rattle (raotl.co.uk)):

Quote
We took our last ride with Bobby yesterday. After years of late departures due to lateness or too may Stellas the day before it was fitting that everyone was on time and, more remarkably, sober. The coach was a freebie from Formby Coaches, a nice gesture and another mark of respect for the man. We went up Scottie and into St Domingo Road. The crowd outside the church was not as big as the crowd outside the Attaturk, but only just. It was a fantastic turn out. Inside the church it was standing room only. Players and officials past and present mingled with Irregulars, Bootle Bucks, the lads from the Holt and the Globe crew. The were people who had flown in from Norway, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. That was the measure of the man.

The service for funny and poignant. Some of the stories about Bobby were hilarious, yet you only had to look at the grief being expressed by some members of his family to realise the enormity of their loss. Afterwards the cortege went around Bobby's beloved Anfield. The front of the Kop was bedecked with banners, and the flags were all at half-mast.

We went straight to the Dockers' Club. The scenes from that night wil live with me forever. I don't know how many people it is supposed to hold, but it was filled to over-flowing. The queue for the bar was longer than those for St Etienne, and it was a miracle that the buffet lasted as long as it did. The lad singing on stage did a valiant job, but no one was really paying that much attention. The real act was when Philly McEwan, Winny, Philly Aspinall and Lenny got up to belt out such classics as 'We Won It 5 Times', 'Johnny Barnes', 'Liverbirds Upon My Chest' and 'The Bus To Villa Park'.

Someone said to me, it may have been in the Dockers Club or the Globe or the Big House, that Bobby wouldn't have appreciated people making a fuss about him, and that he never saw himself as anything more as an ordinary fan. Well I'm sorry Robert but you were far more than just an ordinary fan, you were, and always will be a legend. Whenever Liverpool fans sit down in an alehouse to talk about going to the game, your name will be mentioned. It was a pleasure and priveliege knowing you, your memory will never fade.

YNWA.
