Real Madrid deserved the win. The third goal was so bad it nearly made me vomit!

Why the fuck whenever we play a team like Real Madrid we end up making journeymen like Ronaldo and Benzema look like Bobby Zamora!?

Taught a footbal lesson tonight, one which will hold the youg players in great stead.  We will qualify from the group on 9 pts.

Thought Madrid taught us how to pressurise, our team was pedestrian and was effectively owned by Madrid.
We are struggling badly
Brendan needs to sort it out defensively or he could be one under severe pressure .
Really disappointing nightmare

Before the shit throwing starts I just wanted to say, fair play to Real Madrid. Class above tonight. Superb performance. Untouchable tonight.

Yep, pretty much this. No shame in losing to the holders, and we've been lucky with the Basel result. On to the league where we only play a handful of games against teams a level above us. Plenty to play for this season still, and coming out of this group would be a nice achievement to build on

Drab and predictable, all we need now is somebody to tell us that he can't fault the effort and character of his team.
They have translated from Halmstads to Malmo, to Orebo to Neuchatel Xamax, to the Swiss national team, so I find the question insulting.

Drew the 2nd half...

A good lesson for our players and a level for them to aspire to. I'm sure Brendan and the team will be watching the video of the match several times over. We will learn from it.

On the plus side, Ludogorets have beaten Basel, so if we can beat Basel at home and Ludogorets away we can still finish 2nd.

Its where we are. Lets take whatever we can from this, and cement our Champions League place for next season so we can learn.

What can you take from it? We couldn't be arsed defending and we will do the same in the Spain unless the manager changes something. Which he hasn't in over a year so I doubt 13 days will make a difference.

At least it wasn't more than 3 in the end, that was the only positive. Game raised even more questions about our defense and the way Rodgers sets us up for games. He seems incapable of changing it we play the same way against every single team and how how were we knackered after 20 minutes of pressing? I know we don't have a Kuyt anymore but that was dreadful to see our pressing over and done with after 20 minutes.

Madrid really couldn't have cared less about the second half. Couldn't even be bother to pretend. It was played like an International friendly, or even a fucking testimonial.

Might be petty, but it pissed me off. Seemed a bit disrespectful.

Respect is earned. This group hasn't earned any from Europe. Why would they stay on the gas with the game in hand and more important ones at the weekend?

Should have added one or two top players in the summer, instead of 9/10 average/good players.
sign this man up and sack Brendan!  ::)

Great second half performance. We looked much more fluid without Balotelli. Saw some fluid one-twos in their box. Our players tried their best, they were just not good enough for matching the champions.

And Fair play to Ancelotti for taking the foot of the gas, he had the chance to completely destroy us, but choose not to.

Feel for Balotelli, he just isn't cut out for this level . Lacks that something between the ears.

They took their foot off it 2nd half, we never created anything.

Should have added one or two top players in the summer, instead of 9/10 average/good players.

This is what we have to do in future windows.

There are times when we just have to put our hands up and say there was nothing we could do. This is one of those times. Last season they still would have beaten us, only difference is the game would have ended in some sort of mad scoreline like 2-3 or 3-4. Take away that attack and this is what we're left with. Yes, our defense is absolutely tragic and at least one of those goals could have been prevented, but they were just too good for us and there can really be no complaining about it. I don't expect it to change either, our defensive problems are only getting worse as well. In years before what we lacked in class we made up for in team-spirit and unity, no better example of that than the Champions League in 2004/05. This team at times shows no sign of it, no togetherness, no cohesion, their heads drop too easily. It's very disappointing to see.

Oh, and Balotelli. If he really did swap shirts at half time, then honestly I've had it with him. He offers next to nothing on the pitch, and it seems as if the only thing he's contributing to this squad is what he has been doing best for years - disrupting the team spirit. It's becoming clearer and clearer that he's looking like a failed experiment, and it would probably be best for all parties if we just got rid of in the Winter transfer window. Even Brendan didn't want him here, he was a last-ditch desperation signing.

I hope you wrote that all very quickly after the match and hadn't stopped watching the game prior to FT to analyse.

We are struggling this season but would've struggled last season also.

This is a Real side that won 4-0 away at Bayern last year. They were very good tonight, really very good and fair play to them.

We need two more wins to get out of the group, lets hope we get that.

Need to build some momentum domestically this weekend.
It's wonderful, it's marvellous, it's 3-3

If we don't get that goal early we just become so much weaker as a side. It seems like too much is riding on that initial 15 minute burst of flying about the pitch.

Intelligent substitutions from Brendan, thought Emre Can was really good when he came on, as was Lallana. Much better performance all round in the second half but there was a lingering suspicion that Madrid took their feet off the gas a bit. Still, it was something to take from the game.

Definitely a case of work in progress against the real deal. No disgrace in only shipping 3 against the best team in Europe. We'll do better in the Bernabeu. Ideally without Balotelli. My autocorrect just changed it to baloney. I think that just about sums him up.

Suck it up, take it on the chin etc, amazingly it's turned out to be a pretty good night for us with Basel losing.

Having said that though, we've sold the 3rd best player in the world, spent well over £100million and not brought in a single world class player.
