Genuinely forgot these games were this week. Looking forward to the Classico on Wednesday, not arsed about the other game, hope Schalke win but it's a poor match for a semi final.

More looking forward to Porto v Villarreal than either of the Champions League first legs.

Hate watching Mancs and don't see anything other than them scraping it in Germany tomorrow and can see Classico first leg being tight. Second leg of that going to be immense though and obviously will still enjoy first leg.

Porto game going to be a cracker.

Team news for Wednesday: Adriano, Abidal, Maxwell(so all senior left backs) and Bojan are out for Barca. Khedira and Carvalho out for Real.

Borussia Dortmund 1997.
Bayer Leverkusen 2002.
(hopefully) FC Schalke 2011.

I remember before both the previous semis against German teams, Man United were big favourites, but went out both times.

Don't think United have ever knocked German opposition out of the European Cup. I see no reason for them to start now. Schalke vs Barca final hopefully.

You're not wrong, either one of Ferguson or Mourinho guarenteed to 'equal' Sir Bob's three wins.

Oh Christ, I forgot we have the obvious Schalke collapse to look forward to tomorrow, to the most average side anyone's ever seen. Joy.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Cannot see schalke causing many problems for utd they have been in this situation many times plus with the second leg at old trafford something will bound to go there way it's standard most seasons. Hope i'm proved wrong but i can't see it myself.

I've a horrible sinking feeling that Real might even manage to do a job on Barca. They managed to negate them pretty successfully in the last two encounters, it's not pretty to watch, but it's been effective. I didn't have any doubt that that's the way Mourinho would try to play it, I just didn't think Madrid would have it in them to do an "Inter 2010" on Barca. They brilliantly utilised Pepe as an auxillary midfielder, and it worked.

Real will try to pack the midfield again, and coupled with Barca having no fit left back in the squad, I can see them winning on Wednesday. I just hope that the game is a bit more open than the Copa Del Rey Final, the more open the game, the better the chance Barca have.

In order for Madrid to have any chance of progressing to the final, I think they'll need to win on Wednesday night by two clear goals. That will give them something to defend at Camp Nou, and they've shown in the last two Classico's that they can defend when they need to.

As for the other game, I just hope Schalke can end this talk of a Manc league and CL double. I'm fucking sick of hearing it.

Sadly, i think RM are the only team that can beat the mancs should they get past Schalke. The mancs will have noticed how RM successfully beat Barca and they are capable of carrying out a similar tactical plan. Barca haven't shown any flexible tactical game plan that suggests they're capable of overcoming a top class team that can defend, which the mancs can.

Barca would take Man United apart like a lion to a tortoise.

If you press against them, you get success, no one presses better than Barcelona. It would be a beating and a half.

Carvalho will be missed alright, I just think that Madrid might be able to exploit Barca's lack of a left-back a little better.

You could be right mate, i think Madrid need to take a lead to the Nou Camp, so they'll need to be a bit more attacking than they have been the previous two games.

Barca have scored 6 goals against Madrid this season, Madrid have scored 2 against Barca.

If Barca score first, Madrid will be in big trouble.

I dont know if anyone saw or going to mention it but Madrid themselves only managed it for 1 half. And barca if we're being honest never showed up, so it was a combination. Madrid were slightly fortunate to come away with the win if anything

Good point.

However, the mancs have a superior defence to RM and more discipline too. And sod's law says,  after the 09 final, it's the mancs turn to beat Barca.
