Rafa shows class again. As do Xabi, Hyppia, Agger and many others after they leave the club. Stevie will no doubt conduct himself in a similar manner.

What a great tribute. When Benitez left it was the beginning of the end of an era. When Gerrard leaves, the era would really be over.

Haven't seen Andy@Allerton of late, I wonder how's his man love for Stevie going... ;)

Not sure whether it merits its own thread, but thought it was lovely all the same so decided to go for it. Here's a piece by Rafa on Gerrard, translated from German:

Definitely deserves it's own thread. Two Red legends.

Great read that was, nice touch from Rafa.

We're fast approaching the end of January already, these next 4 months of Steven Gerrard in a red shirt will absolutely fly. Appreciate and cherish every moment of it, we'll never see the likes of him again.

Really nice article there from Rafa.

The whole thing just hasn't sunk in for me yet.  Probably never will.

Still get goosebumps when I see a lot of our ex players talking about the club but not being able to contribute on the pitch anymore.

Time stops for no one :(

I don't ever recall hearing Gerrard speak about Rafa since he left , certainly not in a favourable context ....he has become a bit like " the unspeakable elephant in the cellar " when it comes to his LFC legacy .....I know Didi Hamann loves him and can't praise him enough , but Carragher and Gerrard I'm not so sure about ....

Someone should tell Rafa he actually doesn't like Gerrard cos of all the conspiring against him he did with Carra.

Mad how he doesn't know.

Haha. Brilliant.
From here on in its all FSG's doing. Good or bad they will stand or fall by the decisions they have made in the summer of 2012. Lets hope they have gotten it right.

He's certainly not spoken about him much, though he did release a book in 2012 saying that Rafa was the best coach he'd ever had. He certainly has a respect for him though he's not exactly his 'style' of coach - Rodgers is much more along those lines

To be fair, that seems to be true for the whole club. I was appalled, when I did the stadium tour in November and at one of the first stops ("The Legends Room" or whatever it's called) there was lots of talk about how we've won the European Cup five times, but not a single picture of Rafa on the wall or even a mention by the guide...

Because Gerrard is a current Liverpool player and it's better if he doesn't speak about ex-managers really. Don't recall him really speaking about Houllier ever either.

Pretty sure Carra's always said that Rafa made him into the player he was and has praised him.

I have heard carragher talk about Houllier like that but not Rafa ......Carra got a nice new contract when Rafa went didn't he ?

Great tribute for a legend.
I think Stevie will secretly love those words                                             as it's not the usual generic speel.

Got to love Rafa :wellin

He's spoken about Rafa plenty of times, but most on RAWK choose to ignore it. For example, months into the Hodgson period Stevie said some very nice words about Rafa in an interview to the club magazine. I posted them on here at the time as many were absolutely frothing at the mouth believing Stevie hated Rafa, and they were routinely ignored. Doesn't really fit the Stevie and Carra got Rafa the sack narrative and such I suppose.

Very nice words from Rafa though. No surprises as he and Stevie actually get along perfectly fine and always have at the end of the day.

Rafa is talking about the player not the man, he is praising a one in a million player, they don't have to like each other, but they do respect each other.

From Rafa's own mouth.  The miracle of Istanbul was made by Steven Gerrard.

God I will miss him.

Probably because they both conspired every day of their lives from 2004 onwards to get rid of Rafa because they hated him and he hated them? Something like that isn't it according to the rawk chronicles

Great read, ta

I still recall my first meeting with him, in June 2004, the day I joined Liverpool. I had an appointment with him, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen, the local lads at the club, to speak about common goals. Where do we want to go? How do we want to get there?

Joke, just imagine where that little rats head was at that time and sitting in that meeting with them 3

The joke's on Owen now, Gerrard had the chance to leave but didn't and him and Carragher will always be revered here and Owen will be despised or forgotten about depending on which former club you're talking about.

Wow, this is bit was so insightful into the difference between a good player and a world class playr. World class players continue to try and improve even after their victories:

Immediately after the Champions League Final victory in 2005 against AC Milan, the Miracle of Istanbul, that wouldn't have happened but for his endless desire, he said to me: "Gaffer, make me the best midfield player in the world!" I said: "We're not starting today, Steven, but we will tomorrow."
