Daniel Sturridge is almost back!
« on: January 9, 2015, 07:38:56 am »
YES!!!

This a very presumptuous thread given the amount of times Daniel has almost returned but it's so exciting have such a dynamic striker leading the line again.

it will be like a new signing this !!!   maybe the Yanks will parade him as such  ;)   hopefully he can bang a few goals in sooner than later, be good to see him back,  not sure how we will supply him as weve been poor with the distribution of late and we don't seem to be attacking from  wide and as fast as previous season.

For me the major thing that has been missing from our attacks is the immediate ball in behind when we have won the ball high up the pitch. We win the ball high and then faff around the penalty box for ages allowing to opposition to regain their shape.

There is also a (distant) hope that Daniel will revive the fortunes of Mario.

Could actually be true, presuming he sits out the next two games while catching up with fitness we then have Bolton in the cup where he may be on the bench then West Ham on the 31st where he'll likely return to the starting line up.

I don't think there'll be any significant signings this window (unless there is a departure first) so we're really relying on Daniel's return to rescue our season.  As such, it'll be a case of making sure he's absolutely 100% fighting fit before he takes to the field again - as painful as it is waiting for his comeback.  With the way things are going we can't afford to rush him back and risk yet another injury.

Would've been great to have him back for the Chelsea cup games but I don't think that's likely.

Sturridge fitness meter :

No, I'm pretty sure that meter shows our progress with a new transfer. Probably Reus.
"He’s not so much a player I can really take responsibility for. I’d have to share the responsibility for Joe, less so than for people like [Christian] Poulsen, [Raul] Meireles and [Paul] Konchesky, who are players I was quite happy to bring to the club."

Not getting my hopes up just yet. He's been very close to returning a couple of times already, only for him to break down again. When I see him back out on the pitch scoring goals I'll start feeling happy.

After such a long time away from playing there is almost an inevitable 'niggle' or two coming up once he starts playing.
What a terrible, shitpile of season this has been and not just the results, but also the fucking drought of good football and goals is terrible, very hard to take and the effect is multiplied because we got spoiled by last season swashbuckling show of Suarez & Co. If Daniel returns and bangs them without a pause it'll only partially wash away the bitter taste of this season so far.

Problem is that by that time, we'd have had to face Chelsea in the League Cup. His been missing for the CL games and looks missing for this crucial tie.

He's most welcome to return any time. The sooner, the better.

Just ensure he stays fit. We'll need him for the rest of the season, not just the odd game in January.

Or more than likely linked to the fact he is back in the UK and back at Melwood after spending 2 or so months in the US.

Seems like a natural time to give an update.

Sturridge is expected to make his long-awaited Liverpool FC comeback next week – as Brendan Rodgers sounded an ominous warning for Mario Balotelli.

Sturridge will return to full training at Melwood tomorrow having not featured for the Reds since August.

The striker has been slated for an appearance in next weekend's Premier League home clash against West Ham United and could even make the squad for Tuesday's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at Chelsea.

“Daniel starts training tomorrow with the team,” said Reds boss Rodgers.

“He had his final rehabilitation with the sports science team today and now it's about getting the condition with football fitness and game fitness.

“We'll see how he is for Tuesday, if he's not ready for Tuesday then he will be back for sure against West Ham next weekend.”

Despite Liverpool making a host of changes, Balotelli failed to even make the bench for the frustrating goalless FA Cup fourth round tie against Bolton Wanderers at Anfield.

And Rodgers revealed the Italian had been left out on form and had been made aware he will have to fight his way back into the squad.

“Balotelli wasn't injured, he was just not selected,” he said. “It's tough for Mario.

“We had an hour or so yesterday chatting. He understands where we are at. He was out for a week not well. It's difficult for him.

“But he knows the level of what this team is at. He has seen the pressing and aggression and if you can't do that, then you aren't going to be a part of that.

“The team is doing very well and he is seeing the real Liverpool over the last six or seven weeks and understands what is required to get into the team and I'm judging it in training.

“Mario is exactly the same as every other player. There's no special treatment for anyone.

“Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert are working tirelessly in training and when they go on they have contributed.

“We suffered as a team in the first few months of the season and we can't go back to that.

“Mario will work very hard to feature again. I'm confident he will respond in the right way.

“He saw the level against Chelsea and in fairness he said it was probably a struggle for him in terms of how he would play the game. He is a box player.”
