Players like Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott have great pace but their final ball nearly always leaves a lot to be desired. But Sterling has delivered almost from the off.
It is a problem for fast pacy young players, they very often burst thru but don't deliver the final ball, but Sterling does. He can create chances and score. He 's tough as well, doesn't get knocked off the ball cheaply.
But what marks him out from others young players who have pace and control is that he has great purpose, awareness of other players, the ability to produce an end product.
This has been a hard season for Sterling, pressure from the off, had a slight wobble but he has come to terms with the pressure and fully deserves this award.
