West brom, Hull, QPR and Newcastle the next four. A team playing as poorly as us couldn't ask for a better run. We need 10 points if we realistically want to achieve anything this season, especially as this run coincides with a lot of the big boys having tough games.
Yep. 10 points would leave us on 17 from 10 games, so 3 down on the aim of 2 points per game (20 from 10 games). Four wins would be explosive and have us 1 point off the target of 2 points a game over the season (76 total and CL back at Anfield again next season).
If we can get those 10 points (or 12 *prays*), the Chelsea game then becomes massive (well it is anyway). Win that, and we could potentially win the four after it as well before playing the Mancs. Palace Away, Stoke Home, Leicester Away, Sunderland Home, Mancs Away.
Put another way, in the next SEVENTEEN games, we only play a team from the top eight of last season three times. Arsenal and Chelsea at home and the Mancs Away. 14 games against the teams we enjoyed making points up on last season.
West Brom Home, QPR Away, Hull Home, Newcastle Away,
Chelsea Home, Crystal Palace Away, Stoke Home, Leicester Away, Sunderland Home,
Manchester United Away,
Arsenal Home, Burnley Away, Swansea Home, Leicester Home, Sunderland Away, Aston Villa Away, West Ham Home.
We've got a great opportunity to put points on the board, especially if we can come up with wins against Chelsea/Man U/Arsenal or multiples of them.
And if you don't believe it's a great opportunity, our last 15 games, features 7 teams from last seasons top 8. One almost every other game - with trips to Swansea, Hull, West Brom and Stoke who could all be battling relegation thrown in.
(For those interested, in Manchester United's next 17 games they have Everton Home, Chelsea Home, Man City Away, Arsenal Away, Southampton Away, Liverpool Home, Tottenham Away, Southampton Home- even if you discount Southampton, that's still a tricky fixture 1 in every 3, opposed to our 1 in 5/6).
Large sample maybe but indicative of how Man U have had a really really easy start and need to make up points on the big boys, whereas we have dropped some silly points, but also gained three away at Tottenham, beat Southampton who are in the top four at the moment, outplayed Everton. Hopefully Villa/West Ham can be looked upon as blips, because they are the only results so far I've been really really disappointed with on reflection. The Jagielka goal was a wordly and Brendan was trying to sure us up at the back - it nearly worked too.
