NESV are you really listening?
« on: November 14, 2010, 05:42:32 pm »
Shock, anger, frustration, embarrassment, powerlessness. These emotions and more in the majority have been recycling over and over again in me whilst watching Liverpool this season. My current mood is one of acceptance and helplessness with regards LFC.

The general consensus amongst RAWK seems to be that Roy Hodgson is not the manager to lead LFC anymore. But are NESV listening? Or should we really be asking, who are they listening to?

1. The Media?
We have the English media excusing the manager, blaming it on the previous regime. Ex-players, pundits, columnists, ex-owners, presenters both on the BBC, Sky, ITV, ESPN are in the majority, all agreed. It's all #rafasfault.

2. The Coach?
We have both Tom Werner and John Henry coming out and seeming to absolve Roy of blame, supporting him, and stating that he wasn't the man who built this struggling team, and offering their sympathy to the man. John Henry has been quoted as saying that he admits to not understanding the finer details of the game, but that Roy has been a very good teacher. So, Mr Henry has been listening to Roy.

3. Author/Blogger?
Mr Henry has also been talking and listening to Paul Tomkins, a self-confessed Rafaphile, on a statistical MoneyBall theme no doubt.

4. Director of Football Strategy?
Comolli has been brought in to identify player talent, whilst Roy's role seems to have been re-identified as Coach. He coaches the talent. One of my questions would be, does Comolli rate the talent currently in the squad, and believe these group of players should be performing better? I would hope so. And if so, are NESV listening?

5. The Union, and other fan groups?
And of course NESV have been talking and listening to fans groups such as SOS regarding club issues, fan ownership etc I can only assume. The discussion of the suitability of the current manager I gather was not a topic of conversation.

6. The fans?
Are NESV taking on board our frustrations? Are they aware of our upset? If not, is it appropriate for us collectively to make them aware of this (politely of course), through avenues such as Twitter? If they are very much aware, then why no action? Are they listening to their "experts" and not the "fickle fans" and believe Roy to be doing the best in the circumstances? And who are their experts?

If the decision has already been made, and they are in agreement with the majority on RAWK that Roy has to go, then fair enough, they must just be waiting whilst everythings sorted in the background. If they are listening and in agreement with 1. and 2. however, then I'm worried.

Final question. What is our role as supporters? A supporter of the team? A supporter of the club? Are these two different questions?

Is it this simple... the Owner owns, Manager manages, Coach coaches, supporter supports? Or as demonstrated in the ousting of H&G do we have a "bigger role" as supporters of this club? Is it acceptable / appropriate to be in two way dialogue with John Henry for instance via Twitter, or should we just know and accept our place as supporters?

There is an existing NESV: Are you listening thread. I hardly think that the addition of one extra adverb warrants a new thread.

Also a reminder to everyone that they have been in control for one month.

As a club we are truly fucked if this is the level of patience that we currently have in our fanbase.
