This season has been a fantastic one for me as a Liverpool supporter. I couldn’t have enjoyed everything about it any more. Everything from beating United 4-1, or drawing with stoke City 0-0, to 4 all thrillers with Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. It’s been absolutely fantastic and I’ve loved every single minute of the ups and downs on the pitch.

Sorry mate, you can stick the draws

Brilliant post, positive message to counter all those fans who just jump off and start screaming for blood everytime we have a less than brilliant result.

Amen to that post ,
may be bullshit but food for thought and it would tie in
with my own belief that something just isnt right with Utd at the moment . . .

Carling Cup in the bag. Top of the league by 3 points with a game in hand and biggest of all, a Champions League Semi Final.

I wish something could be wrong with us as well.

And how do you figure that?

They could very well end up Champions of of not only England, but Europe for the 2nd consecutive season. While we end up trophyless for the third consecutive season.

Have some perspective.

I'm figuring that on the fact that we haven't been still challenging at this stage of the season for a long time.
The football I've seen this season has been much better than in past few seasons - no-one can deny that. And, as I know a ST holder at OT I know for a fact that a lot of the fans there feel there not the team they were, not only a few years ago, but as they were last season.
And as for them winning the European Cup, they've not done it yet and even if they do it doesn't mean they're at their best. Look at us, it was ours in 05 but would you say the winning team was better than the team we have now?
I for one am very happy with where we're heading, I didn't say it we were to pass them this season.
The futures bright.

God what is all this talk all the time about Man Utd! We seem to be obsessed about them. Every post is about beware Utd we are coming etc etc.

Believe it or not, there are other teams in this league bar us and Man Utd.

It seems to be that the biggest reason to win the league is to stop these records being surpassed or to piss of Ferguson.

We want to win the league for our club sakes. I dont care if Fergie beats all our records and enjoys himself. If we win the league then it will matter just as much as if we stopped him surpassing us!

Brilliant post Daws, really enjoyed reading that.

Looking back over the season, it's been a bit like watching one of those wildlife programs. You have the old, dominant male who feels his patch is threatened by the new male who's just joined the pack. So the old one starts barking and snarling and jumping up and down to show he's still top dog, he's still dominant. Then you watch the next episode and  the pack have a new leader and they're chewing on the bones of the old one... hopefully this is the sad fate that awaits poor slurAlex :)

Good stuff.

Two of the great achievements by Rafa this season:

How he virtually destroyed both the myth of "the unbeatable United" for other managers and teams. How in an interview he basically wiped fergusons nose in it by saying "I've just shown you how to beat them. There's nothing to be afraid of any more"

And how he showed other managers that its actually quite safe to take the pissed up old twat on in his "mind games". I would think that most of the other managers are looking at Fergusons latest rantings and thinking "what the fuck is the daft twat on about now"

I honestly believe its the beginning of the end for Utd. And quite the reverse for us.
All the badge kissing in the world don't make up for the fact that they are, frankly, not Liverpool Football Club. It's not their fault. Its just how it is.

I was talking to manc i work with the other day and he agreed with me on my point that every team that has won the league in recent times has done it with a couple of near misses first. it takes a season to get used to the pressures of the run in etc so even if we dont (i think we will) win the league this year it is only good to still be involved at this stage of the season. If you asked anybody at the start of the season would they be happy to be in the psotion we are now at this stage of the season most would have bitten your hand off.

I dont buy into the whole "the wheels are falling off" at united thing at the minute either though. I just dont think anybody will dimonate the premier league for a prolonged period of time anymore. there is so little between the "big 4" i think it will be more evenly shared around. That said I can see where the cracks are appearing at united but they will cover them up by spending big again in the summer possibly funded by selling ronaldo for £50-70 million and buying ribery and somebody else.

Agree completely!

Ferguson retiring will create instability at the club, and on the other side benitez still being here will create stability. In Rafa we trust... he has achieved more in his first few years then MR FERGUSON ever achieved in his. Rafa brought us the Champs League and the FA cup, fergie was lucky not to be sacked. If rafa is here for many years, our league count will pull away from theirs. He is creating an amazing first 11, it just needs depth. Were getting there fellow reds, i believe so anyway.

That I certainly agree on.
They're no more crumbling now than they were 4 or 5 years ago.
But the negativity of your posts is unreal...I mean, how fucking depressed were you under Houllier?

We are closer to United than we've been for 20 years...in fact we are ahead of them on both current form and general form over the year. That is clear to see. They have been pretty dire, depended almost exclusively on resolute defence for months, and look a shadow of their team last year. If Nando had been fit for even an extra month, never mind the 4 he missed, then we'd be clear at the top.

We have had more than a few poor spells too, but United haven't had a spell all season like we've enjoyed recently. We've progressed from a good side to a potentially great side, playing class football.

Which makes the defensive lapses on Tuesday all the more galling.
Hitting 4 against Madrid, United, Chelsea, Villa (I know) and Arsenal in a few weeks is something no other team in Europe, bar maybe Barca, could even dream about.
That, to me, is worth pinning some serious hopes on

The proudest thing for me is the players and management all seem to be 'one of us', did u see how hard benni, torres, kuyt and masch worked the other night? I am so so glad i am a rednose! The fans just never stop suprising me as the 20th aniversary of hillsbrough showed!! Its not the yanks millions that has got this far its the old scouse way of hard work, and support!!

I hope we all belive more next year so we can give the type of support we give against Arsenal in every home game, cos i always want to feel this good!!!

I think its a rare thing for somebody to compose an opinion that is balanced in confidence and humility, optimism and realism.

For my money that is what the opening poster had done, and hit the nail on the head.

Their Keeper is fucking old, they have no decent RBs, their centre of defense is shite when one of the two is injured, they have no decent cover at LB, their CMs are over-rated, their golden boy is sulking, their hero (Giggs) is on the verge of retirement, Tevez is leaving in the summer, the Hollywood superstar isn't arsed enough to put in decent performances for them.

Their manager is fucking losing it, ranting, ranting and ranting. And then his team gets twatted by us TWICE.

2-1 and 4-1.

The league would have been ours if we didn't have injuries to Torres and Gerrard at crucial times. And it's still not over yet.

They got an easy CL draw, hence they are in the semis. And I couldn't care less about the Carling Cup.

Need more reasons?

You can add to that the fact their crippling debts are making it less likely they will spend big in the summer without selling first. Can't see them getting another £20mill player without selling Ronaldo.

I concur sir.

We are second in the league, and this season the league was what I wanted us to do better in.

Second from fourth is a marked improvement from this time last season. We have improved in pretty much all areas.

We do need to break bus-parking teams down better.

But on the whole, eventhough we could end up trophyless for a third season which is shit, I am 100000000000% sure it's just gonna get better, next season
and the season after that,
and the season after that,
and the season after that,
and the season after that,
and the season after that,
and the season after that,
and the season after that,
and the season after that.

I think I'm getting the point across...

We are a great side who have started to gel and with The Gafa at the helm, shit is gonna be GOOOOOOD.

And just as a quick thank-you:

GL.... Ben foster has been impressive when i have seen him

RB..... wes bown coming back and rafael for the future.... where is our depth in that postion?

CB..... Evans has looked good

LB...... Evra and Fabio

They are not as invincible as everybody thought a few months ago (until we spanked them) but they are far from crumbling

As for people saying the big threat next year will be chelsea. i can guarantee the mancs will be there or thereabouts next year again.
I'd played at Anfield and I knew the crowd were fantastic. I knew there was a public just waiting. So I fought the battles inside and outside. I was interested in only one thing, success for the club. And that meant success for the people. I wanted results for the club, for the love of the game, to make the people happy
