Watched Sing Street at last yesterday and it didn't disappoint. In fact, lifted up my mood after the match.

Right doses of funny and serious, moving and romantic, with its social commentary, full of nostalgia and the dreams of that age. Great original soundtrack as well. Absolutely loved it and certainly will watch it again in the future.

Maybe I'm going soft but I absolutely loved La La Land.

Just one of those movies where you can go to the cinema and get transported to another world.

Can't help but hate Damien Chazelle though! A few years older than me and he's directed three critically acclaimed movies. And I'm sitting in my flat staring at the damp patch on the ceiling.

I know he did Whiplash,  what was the third?

I know the type, takes ages to get around to watching it and in the end you force yourself to do it, then it turns out to be an amazing experience you wish you'd seen sooner.

Found Split to be good for the first hour, then something very, very stupid happens and it turns into complete shite only for a little bit of a random savior to come at the end. Still shit though, but not quite shite.

'Moonlight' is really something. It's intimate and real and is one of those movies where it's hard to put into words why it's great.

It succeeds on a technical level. There's great cinematography, direction, music, and performances. But my biggest praise is that it presents a story - that of a gay black man growing up in poverty in the American South - lives not seen in cinema, and brings you in completely, to the point where I related to it to a level far beyond what I initially expected.

I think it comes out soon in the UK. I hope as many people see it as possible, It's definitely worth it.

Something called Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench. Never seen it but it looks like an indie movie about a jazz musician (unsurprisingly). Seems to have got good reviews so might be worth a watch.

There's a copy of Gimme Danger out. It's got hard coded subtitles but it doesn't really matter. The sound and picture are good and it's boss. Jim Jarmusch makes a documentary about the greatest band to ever walk the planet. Great stuff.

T2 is a little like the Brent movie.

They should have steered well clear when they read the script.

Watched The Infiltrator the other day. Good movie on its own with the expected 'shots' of violence and how the lives of agents on the field are affected and change by what they see. Too many Pablo Escobar themed docs, films, series out there though and you can offer that much when you decide to shoot another one.

Also watched The Sunset Limited. Have grown an appetite recently for that kind of theater plays like films shot in one set/room and with tons of dialogue. Very good performances by Tommy Lee Jones, whose character's helplessness and depression is expertly depicted and SLJ who tries his best to help him.
Dialogue is super fast at times and missed a few references/nuances but general context of the film is certainly not lost.

Watched La La Land earlier and it was incredible. Felt like dancing out of the cinema once it was done  ;D. Everything about it was just stunning.

It makes the dross we've just served up slightly easier to bear.

Great film. Really poignant coming-of-age type, both very funny and sad.
Hailee Steinfeld is just amazing, best female performance I've seen in quite a while, her character really struck a chord too, as it will a lot of people I suspect.

Spoiler
Ending was a bit too perfect is my only gripe.

Finally got round to watching American Honey. Really enjoyed it.

I don't need everything tied up with a bow as far as narrative goes but it did feel like it just meandered to the finishing line without any clear ending.

Either way it was very good indeed.

Split was also really good, albeit about 20-30 mins too long. Unfortunately the cinema I was in was full of giggling young girls....I'm not even sure they knew what they were laughing at half the time. Fucking idiots!

Spoiler
Loved the Bruce Willis, Unbreakable, cameo at the end. Obviously setting it up for some sort of sequel!
