Heart as Big as Liverpool by Pete Wiley

A Liver as big as Hartlepool as was written on the dukey at The Picket!                ;D

Maggie Mae / The Beatles

Oh, dirty Maggie Mae
they have taken her away
and she'll never walk
down Lime Street anymore
Oh, the judge she guilty found her
of robbing the homeward bounder
dirty no good robbin' Maggie Mae
It's the part of Liverpool
She returned me to
Two pound ten a week
that was my pay

Apparently about a Liverpool Prostitute
He who sees himself in all beings and all beings in himself loses all fear.

- The Upanishads.

The heart knows the way. Run in that direction

- Rumi

You are held . You are loved . You are seen  - Some wise fella .

Thats the song with the lyric 'If you've never had a pan of my ma's scouse you've never lived before' i love that song and have tried to get it loadsa times and can't find it

I have found out that the artist of this track was 'Brian Jacques' who was the presenter of the show itself. He recorded it many years ago apparently when he was a folk singer. He still has a show on Sunday evenings from 5:30pm on Radio Merseyside.

Ive done a google but drawn a blank im afraid...  :-\

Why not write to him or e-mail him c/o the radio station? He'd probably be pleased to know that people were interested in his work and might know where you could get some.

Have managed to found out he was a part of a folk group called 'The Liverpool Fisherman' but still no nearer i'm afraid other than one of their LP's is on sale over the internet for $200.

"There's drizzle on the cobble's in the early morning thats my liverpool"
"With a half eaten butty and shoes undone, your gonna be late for school"

Thats as much of the song i can get, Maybe a musical person such as terry-deniro may be able to help.

I have e-mail the A-team today, so i Await Mr-T and his bling :D
.. and in their darkest hours emerged the red warriors, their names Carragher and Gerrard.

There's a song called "I'm a Scouser and me grandad comes from Ireland" that I've heard on Billy Butler's programme. Can't remember who did it but I've got it written down somewhere.

The song is by Georgie Windsor

I'm only 23 aswell, but listen to the Billy Butler show at about 2.30 and listen out for the Bradshaws. QUALITY

Anyway Back to the thread, a good CD for Liverpool both relating to the club and Liverpool city in general  is Scotch on the rocks sold in the Liverpool shop few outdated ones on there now like, but a decent listen anyway IMO.
alf, audrey and little billy, absolute quality, just a shame that billy butler repeats them all the time.
bitter,not me.a granddad,but I'm not even 40

sorry but this is a quick hijack, but is still related to the main thread.

When I was a kid me mam used to listen to this folk programme on the radio on a Sunday morning. I think it was on Radio Merseyside and was presented by a gruff sounding fella who's name I cant remember - 'Jake' something I think it was. Anyway he used to have this theme tune sung by a folk group, I cant recall the title of the track or who it was by but would love to find out!

I know this is a long shot but can anyone recall what it was?

The first line went summat like 'There's dew on the cobbles in the early mornin' thats my Liverpool'

And the last line went summat like ' ...the Northwest gate to Merseyside!'. but thats all I can recall.

Cheers  :wave

</HIJACK>

I found this one!

Here it is:

"My Liverpool" by Dr Brian Jacques, D.Let. H.C.

The drizzle on the cobbles in the early mornin', that's my Liverpool.
With a half eaten butty an' yer lace undone, y'gonna be late for school.
There's a ship with a cargo of containers coming in through the locks
an' a bus with a cargo of hangovers headin' down to the docks.
My Liverpool's a town of dogs an' kids all kickin' up in the street
Won't you give that dog a bone, Ma. Give that kid a sweet
an' the people know how to treat a stranger See that open door...........
If YOU've never had a plate of my Ma's scouse, then YOU've never lived before
It's roarin' bustlin' open wide
the northwest gate to Merseyside.

My Liverpool's a town of two religions they've both got floodlights
a hundred smells, a million faces an' a thousand different sights.
why, I knew the house where the beatles lived 'til they called in the pest control
there's a ferry that goes across the Mersey where they learned to rock an' roll
In the Kirkdale Market Saturday mornin' you can get most anything
from a new bedstead to a pound of salt-fish or a green-gold weddin' ring
There's a feller made of brass, with a big bare (elbow) where the girls all stand an wait
Have a Chinese Indian Italian meal in good ................ould Liverpool Eight.
It's roarin' bustlin' open wide the northwest gate to Merseyside.

My Liverpool's a town where the cats never sleep, they sing the whole night long
an' the sparrows cough on the window-sill in lieu of a mornin' song
an' the buskers in the subway sound as good as the fellers on teevee
an' I'm not bad when I've had a few pints you wanna have a listen to me.
Hear the sound of a tugboat on the river has a music of its own
the Goodison choir an' the Anfield army who never walk alone
then the sun comes out an' the Liver Bird stands up to stretch his wings
an' the music starts in a million hearts and that's ............ when Liverpool sings

It's roarin' bustlin' open wide the northwest gate to Merseyside.

We used to sing this mainly at away games in the 70's.

Liverpool Lou

Chorus:
Oh Liverpool Lou lovely Liverpool Lou
Why can't you behave just like other girls do
Why must my poor heart keep following you
Stay home and love me my Liverpool Lou

When I go out walking, I hear people talking
School children playing, I know what their saying
Their saying you're grieve me
That you will decieve me
Some morning you'll leave me
All packed up and gone

Chorus

The sounds from river keep telling me ever
That I should forget you, like I've never met you
Oh tell me their song love
Was never more wrong love
Say I belong love to my Liverpool Lou

I remember me dad singing that to me when I would come in all mucky from playing footy.  He used to give me money every birthday to buy a frock, I always came back with jeans.
You won't get me flicking on a (football) phone in.  I'd rather listen to a game of chess on the radio.  Phone ins are a platform for idiots.

I now have a new favourite thread
Didi Hamann

In the corridors and changing rooms of Anfield I met many people - the great, the talented, the legendary.  I know that I only met one genius.  He was a small, smiling man with a neatly clipped beard.  His name was Rafael Benitez.

Can someone please help me out with this Liverpool school kid classic ( my memory is failing me..again!)

In the Phillamonic hall
there are nuides on the wall
and you get a funny feeling when you look up  at the ceiling
and the girls all cry...
and the boys...

this is where I lose it...can any one do a complete rendition?

anyone remember the Liverpool Team's rendition of Liverpool Lou?  Truly awful! It was on the B side of Yeah we can do it - God it makes you cringe!
