Does anyone actually care about this competition?

Let the kids play and get some experience, the Spearings, Shelveys, Hendersons, Robinsons and so on. Even Carroll.

No point in playing people like Soto. The less mileage on his the better - he's been round the clock twice already!

I hate these kind of comments, you'd think we've been racking up league titles and champion's league medals. ::)

Decent side needed.  Treat it as a sort of pre season to help the squad gel.  No point playing Ngog as he is leaving, same with Aqua.

Reina

Kelly  Carra  Skrtel  Robinson

Kuyt     Spearing  Adam   Maxi

              Mereiles

           Carroll

Doni; Flanagan, Skrtel, Wilson, Robinson (Aurelio if fit); Spearing, Meireles, Shelvey; Kuyt, Carroll, Maxi

Subs: Pepe, Kelly, Henderson, Coady, Aquilani (if still here), Sterling, Ngog

What I'd go with, a good mix of youth and first teamers.

Carroll should play to continue to build up his match fitness. No need to overwork Suarez give him the night off.

I sincerely doubt Reina will play. Meireles, Skrtel and Carroll may do, for fitness/confidence respectively with Suarez maybe coming off the bench.

I'd like it to be:

                                      Doni
Flanagan       Carragher       Skrtel        Robinson

                       Coady            Spearing

Cole                          Meireles                 Sterling
                                  Carroll

Subs: Reina, Wilson, Suarez, Lucas, Kelly - New rules state 5 subs for the league cup right? Or am I chatting shit?

No European matches this season so why not just roll out our first 11?  It's the only competition outside of the PL for us until the FA Cup starts in January.

We don't need to worry about playing 60+ matches this season.   If we make it to the final of both competitions we will play 51 matches this season.

I would give Agger a rest because he has a tough time staying healthy but other than that let's play our best side.

Because it's a good chance to give the fringe/youth players experience so that should they be called upon they can do the best job possible.

I do agree that we need to rest Agger for this though.

I agree - think we should start close to our first 11, with no European commitments we should not have a problem with players burning out towards the end of the season.

I think we should rotate in some of our subs, bring in people like Maxi, Flanagan, Skrtel, Meireles (fitness), Carroll (fitness).

Hope to see a few youngsters on the bench such as Sterling, Coady & Wisdom.

I'd play a mix of squad players and some of the older/more experienced youth for this. With Bolton on the weekend, I'd avoid sending a load of first-teamers there unless they need fitness, nor would I take Suarez in spite of his fitness issues.

Fucking bullshit. The League Cup has its place in LFC history and is a competition in which we have a proud record. it has also regained some of its lustre in recent years - 'big' teams have won it and have been rightfully proud of doing so.

If we were to win this and finish 4th i'd be delighted - some siverware and back in the CL in Kenny's first season would be a great platform from which to build.

It's a trophy for us to go for this season. In previous years under Rafa I wouldn't have been too bothered given we'd bigger fish to fry but this year we've no Europe and realistically in the league getting the CL place back would be a good season so the domestic cups are our best hope of silverware. I'd start Carroll again cos I think he needs games, after that I'd look at giving the like of Spearing, Shelvey, Robinson, Skrtel etc a game.

Play as strong a side as possible with protection given to the 'fragile' e.g. Agger, Kelly.

Whoever the King picks it's going to be interesting.

As I said, we should field as strong a side as is reasonably possible.  Take nothing for granted and take no chances with the result.  I've seen enough embarrassing cup exits over the past five years to last an effing lifetime.

Just think you need to have more pace in the side...we know that side will struggle to create anything. Its not about giving names minutes , its about finding the right balance. I hope downing, suraez, enrique and agger are all rested because i don' think we have the squad depth to replace them if anything happened to them, as for the rest i hope its a mixture between youth and experience.

So you think we need more pace in the side than the lineup the other fella put up but want to rest Suarez, Downing and Enrique who are 3 of the quickest players we have. If that team he put up struggles to create/score goals against a side who have conceeded 8 in 4 games in League 1 then the players are not good enough for a top 4 finish in the PL.

I reckon 3-1 Liverpool!
As we have no europe, I reckon we should take Domestic cups very seriously, So I reckon that the team chosen, bearing in mind we have bolton at the weekend, should have the right amount of experience.
Be an interesting game though! Can't wait!

Want to win this, but some of our players need rest.

GK Doni
RB Flannigan
CB Skrtel
CB Kelly
LB Robinson

RM Maxi
CM Spearing
CM Meireles
LM Sterling
AM Suso

ST Kuyt

Bench: Jones, Wisdom, Shelvey, Coady, Downing, Suarez, Ngog

Bit of balance there, some experienced players in the squad, and some quality on the bench (should we need it), with plenty of the young lads getting a game.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.
