It is a close call between him and Mignolet as to who has improved the most.

His passing as a right sided CB is a bit erratic. Need the Matip situation sorted ASAP so we can get back to our best back four set up.

He scares the shit out of me to be honest.

Can't knock his attitude and passion.  I do think he has improved under Klopp.

I think he's rash though and always likely to make a mistake.  That back pass to Mignolet yesterday gave me kittens.

I think the way we play under Klopp, we ask the CBs to be very good on the ball.  Matip for me has that composure and quality, Lovren doesn't IMO and given his rashness he always worries me.

He has had some very good games under Klopp, some stinkers - I'd like him to be back up ideally.

I think he looks much better alongside Matip. He doesn't need to worry about playing out from the back, he can just concentrate on defending which is his game. Next to Klavan its up to him to play out from the back which isn't his strength.

Its rare to watch a game of football without several players making a mistake, whether its a midfielder with a shit pass or a striker with a fluffed shot. But when Lovren makes one its highlighted and magnified out of proportion and that's been the trouble since day 1. He wasn't as good as he is now, but he certainly wasn't as poor as people actually want to believe :)

Just re-watched the game on SKy.  Rat Boy gave him MOTM

His post match interview is Gold, especially as he forgets Fellani's name and looks at the MOTM trophy like it was something that had just dropped from a dogs arse.

Nice one Dejan :lmao

Why not concentrate on watching the match rather than criticise our players during it? There will be plenty of time once the game finishes.

Dejan Lovren signs new long-term Liverpool contract
« Reply #733 on: April 28, 2017, 10:01:39 am »
Let the fewm begin....

http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/261714-dejan-lovren-signs-new-long-term-liverpool-contract

Dejan Lovren has today signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool Football Club.

The centre-back put pen to paper on the deal at Melwood on Friday morning to commit his future to the Reds.

Lovren is approaching the end of his third season with the club, having signed from Southampton in July 2014. He has since clocked up 105 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.

Moments after inking the new contract, he told Liverpoolfc.com: “I think this is one special day for me and my family.

“I think I am the happiest guy [in the world] today, it’s another dream come true. It was always my dream to stay as long as possible at one club that I love – and that is Liverpool.

“After all that happened in the beginning, in the last two seasons I think I’ve done better than in the first season. The club has rewarded me, they believed in me and also the fans, and this is what I respect a lot after everything that happened.

“I am pleased with everything and I just want to stay here as long as possible and be a part of this family for many, many years to come.”

Lovren has made 28 appearances for Liverpool so far in 2016-17, helping himself to two goals.

The 27-year-old has forged a strong understanding with summer signing Joel Matip, with the Reds suffering just one defeat in 15 games when they’ve played alongside each other, helping maintain the push for a top-four finish.

Lovren added: “I am glad I will be a part of this team and this plan for the future. We are a really talented team with many special players, an amazing manager, the club is fantastic [and] the supporters are always behind us even on the bad days, which is the most important thing. I am definitely excited about the future.”

I'm really not one to bash our own players, but he's not a good enough starting CB.

I think what's even more concerning is that Klopp just doesn't see it. He's obviously asked to push the back line forward and intercept the ball high up the pitch whenever possible. But his positional awareness and more importantly recovery pace is just not at the level we need. I personally think he's best suited to a back 3, preferably on the left of a 3 as he's good at moving across the line to cover space on the wings when we're being countered. Maybe that's what Klopp has in mind, who knows.

He had a really poor game against Palace, but has been much better this season especially when alongside Matip.
I'm happy with this, although we could do with another strong CB that we can pair with either of them.

Think this is fine. We should be keeping the 13-15 players klopps trusted this season and building on that, not letting them go and trying to replace them as well.

In isolation this is not a disasterous move by any stretch of the imagination, but we're tieing ourselves in to some big contracts to players who're unlikely to show any improvement. Lallana will be well past 30 when his runs out and Lovren will be nearly 32 when this one is due to be up. I think it's risky when you're playing a style of football that's very physically demanding.

I can't see us going to 3 at the back long term. I think Klopp also is aware of his limitations, but this season we just don't have the options to replace him. After Matip, he's the best we've got. I do think we look at trying to bring in another CB in the summer, we have to. I think Dejan is a good bread butter centre half, for me his weakness is his ball playing, I think we need somebody who can match his defensive abilities but is a better footballer. We need to improve on him, but I am very happy to have him in the squad. If Dejan is 3rd choice next season, then the team is improving and so is the bench.

He is good when he has protection in front of him. When he is left exposed he tends to make rash decisions, a bit like Luiz was at Chelsea. We need to protect our CB's more..

Can has said the impasse with him isn't to do with money, but with his playing role

He is good when he has protection in front of him. When he is left exposed he tends to make rash decisions, a bit like Luiz was at Chelsea. We need to protect our CB's more..

I seem to remember Bilic pretty much saying this. If you don't overcomplicate his role, he can do a really good job defensively
