Incredible...he hammers home some of the points perfectly. Such simple statements and simple questions he is raising.

His request now that the prosecution goes forward was very powerful.

What is with the "yeahs" in the background?

I don't know shit about British politics but has it ever been like this at the commons?

They're saying 'hear hear', basically that they agree and encourage what is being said. Happens every week.

Can't they just clap?

Again, excuse my ignorance, but I found it quite odd for a speech to have people say stuff in the background rather than clapping.

Steve Rotheram was applauded in the Commons back in 2012 when he read the names of the 96 out.  We have a habit of breaking new ground (although you are correct, it is notacceptable practice in Parliament).

Seconded, brilliant speech!

I fear the CPS may trot out "not in the public interest" regarding prosecutions but I hope I'm wrong and the guilty are hammered.

Outstanding yet again by Andy Burnham. Every point raised there is exactly what we, and the families want.

Interesting to read about the clapping bit, I never knew that, but didn't he get a standing ovation by a few ( on the opposition benches obviously) at the end there?

Heard this said a few times over the past 2 days. I don't think the CPS will have any option. This has been far too high profile, and it is obvious that Perverting the course of justice, perjury and manslaughter have all been committed. Can you imagine the uproar if they were let off the hook now?

*Edit. Yes they did, fuck tradition!

A brilliant speech.

Here's the full transcript: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/hillsborough-verdict-andy-burnhams-emotional-7845130

And this excerpt deserves repeating...

"Mr Speaker, the last question is for us.

What kind of country leaves people, who did no more than wave off their loved-ones to a football match, sitting in a court room 27 years later begging for the reputations of their sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and fathers?

The answer is one that needs to do some deep soul-searching.

This cover-up went right to the top.

It was advanced in the committee rooms of this House and in the press rooms of 10 Downing Street.

It persisted because of collusion between elites in politics, police and the media."

This needed saying, good on you Andy.

"We go again."

There are speeches and there are speeches from the heart, Andy meant every word and he was spot on. what chance has anyone got against organizations like SYP on there own if it took a mass of overwhelming evidence, a whole city supporting them growing to hundreds of thousands, millions of pounds and it still took 27 yrs to get justice.
What sickens me is there still trying to use spin. Perceived differences. !!!!! did any of these SYP people actually follow the evidence daily, I will leave it at that.

ust after midday on Wednesday South Yorkshire police issued a fresh statement to try to head off already fierce criticism of the force’s conduct at the inquest.

The force said sorry for “perceived” differences between an apology it had issued in 2012 and its conduct at the inquest. “We have never sought, at any stage, to defend the failures of SYP or its officers. Nevertheless, these failures had to be put into the context of other contributory factors. In other words, where do the failings of SYP stand in the overall picture?

“We are sorry if our approach has been perceived as at odds with our earlier apology, this was certainly not our intention.”

It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.
