INTERNAZIONALE FC SEASON 2011 2012

Last Season: 2nd

Coach: Gianpiero Gasperini

Squad Analysis: What an eventful season for my beloved Inter. To summarize we had a poor season, even if we still did win 3 trophies. There was no stability or control at any point during our campaign and that transpired into an inconsistent season. In goals we have Julio Cesar, considered one of the worlds best but he was poor last year. Viviano's now come in and he will put pressure on the Selecao no.1 and hopefully spur him on. In defence Maicon provides those lung bursting runs from the right back. Hes almost like a right winger but his past season wasn't good, the match against Bale is evident of this where the Welshman absolutely demolished him. Lucio and Samuel are still IMO the best centre back pairing in the world even if they are getting on in age. They were both injured last year and that impacted severely on our campaign. The deputies Materazzi, Cordoba and Ranocchia were all woeful last year when they filled in. Christian Chivu and Nagatomo fight it out for the left back spot, with the Japanese proving the better outlet IMO, and he will continue to improve.

In the midfield, Inter remain strong. Motta, Stankovic, Kharja, Cambiasso and the captain Javier 'The Tractor' Zanetti provide the energy and power in the midfield. Motta is our deep lying playmaker, Cambiasso the anchor and the evergreen Zanetti the box to box midfielder. In front of them is our link man and creative outlet Wesley Sniejder. Were a totally different team with the Dutchman in our team, hes a sensational player hopefully he will stay. Up front we have some good options with proven goalscorers Pazzini, Diego Milito and Sammy Eto'o providing the firepower. Milito will be looking to have a better season than last while the other two will try and continue their good form from last year. Pandev is another option, but he might be allowed to move after an underpar campaign from the Macedonian. We have two outstanding attacking prospects in the Brazilian Coutinho who some might know from the game against Spurs where he was excellent and the recently purchased Luc Castaignos from Feyenoord. Santon is also highly rated but he has been poor for the past seasons.

Gasperini has a big job to do, but I think he will do just fine. Some are saying he might adopt his 3-4-3 system which would be interesting with the players we have at our disposal. Sneijder and Eto have been tipped to leave, but they will stay. We need some fresh blood in though, and I can see a mini clear out happening with a few buys coming in. Nagatomo and Viviano have joined permanently while Muntari returns from a loan spell at Sunderland - though he will be sold, a truly dreadful player. Reports are saying that Arsenal target Ricky Alvarez is joining from Velez for 11 million, while the Genoa president has confirmed we are in negotiations with Palacio. I want a big signing, realistically either Neymar or Aguero - both players we can get. Alberto Aquilani is another who might be available that we should pursue.

Player to Watch: WESLEY SNIEJDER - Wes will have a big campaign this year and hopefully can spur us to domestic and European glory. Last season he showed glimpses as he was constantly injured, but he still has the quality to influence games and is a proven big match player. He has unbelievable vision and can pass and shoot from distance with either foot. Always probing and looking to make inroads in the opposition defence, he has done it against Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern and Milan in the last couple of years. The fans love him and he loves the fans, I cant see him leaving the San Siro this season. Hopefully he teaches Coutinho a few tricks as well as he is another terrific youngster that should see more playing time this year and will shine.

Great analysis bigmarcs10. I started following Serie A closely on a regular basis last couple of seasons. I actually rate Gasperini highly and he did pretty well for Genoa until the bad slump where he was sacked. He's a good motivator and tactician and I think he will come good for Inter, as long as Moratti gives him sufficient time to instill his philosophy. Zanetti, Cambiasso, Stankovic and Motta are a solid midfield but age is a concern. It's no surprise Inter are looking at Alvarez and Banega. Nagamoto was a breath of fresh air and he's great going forward and decent in defending despite his relatively small frame. Pazzini is a shrewd buy in January and Inter has enjoyed the rewards with him scoring 10 plus goals. however if Inter signs Palacio from Genoa, it may mean one of the forwards will have to leave, and i still think Eto'o is the most likely although Milito is not getting younger. I doubt Viviano will stay. He's a good young keeper together with Sirugu and needs to be playing regularly to challenge for Azzuri's number 1. I can't see that happening if he plays second fiddle to Julio Cesar.

With a few good signings (younger players), I think Inter will be strong contenders for the Scudetto next season together with Milan and possibly Napoli, Juventus, and maybe the two Roman clubs too.

Pandev simply has to go, at the time looked a good move due to the contract problems at Lazio and snapping him up - but he ended making Inter seem like a team of 10 men, his touch and creativity was basically nil and he has no confidence infront of goal.

Inter need to make a couple of defensive signings I think, Nagatomo is a good signing I really rate him. But another top centreback is needed alongside Lucio, Cordoba is on the way out of his career and not as good as he was - same goes for Walter Samuel, Chivu isn't a great defender to begin with, off his head and injury prone. Ranocchia has time to learn his trade, but i don't get the impression he will ever grow into a good enough player to start at the back for Inter.

Opposite to bigmarcs' opinions I think Juve this year will do well in the competition and may give Napoli a fight for the third qualify CL spot. The difference between Conte and Ferrara is that the latter didn't have any managerial experiences before and Juventus (fans and board alike) expected him to do what Guardiola did with Barca the previous season. When in reality his place was never to be there.

Conte has experience as a manger and did well at Serie B with Bari and Siena promoting both teams and making them play good football in the process. Juventus problems still lie in the backline and I think Del Neri didn't adhere that and just played a rigid 4-4-2 system that further exposed his defense. IMO if he can make Motta, Bonnuci and Barzagli to play to their best then I think there defense will come good as they already sorted the fullback options by buying two good players in Ziegler and Lichtsteiner.

In midfield, it'll be interesting to see how they will play, Melo can be good on his day but he is very inconsistent and oppositions can easily get to his head, with Pirlo and Marchisio, I can see them employing a 4-3-3 system with a midfield trio of Melo- Marchisio and Pirlo with Krasic and Quagliarella as inside forwards feeding Matri.

It'll be interesting to see how the rumors of them signing Aguero and Rossi as well, if they sign both then choosing the starting lineup may become a headache for Conte but in that case I can see them going for the title if they buy both, it'll be an interesting summer to say the least.

Regarding Inter I think that the biggest problem that will face Zamparini is the egos and the age of his squad, if he can get Morratti to support him in the transfer market then I think he may come good. He did very well at Genoa and brought the best out of Milito and Motta there and I think he can replicate that at Inter, just need support and patience from the Inter hierarchy, something that unfortunately I can't see Morratti doing.

Opposite to bigmarcs' opinions I think Juve this year will do well in the competition and may give Napoli a fight for the third qualify CL spot.

Juve's problem is inconsistency for the past couple of years, something similar to Liverpool where they fail to take 3 points off teams where they were supposed to beat, eg the match against Catania where they were leading 2-0 up and Catania fought back and scored the equaliser in the last min of injury time.

I think the purchase of the 2 new full backs are important. Lichtsteiner and Ziegler are not world class, but still good players better than any of the full backs they have. Even Sorensen played there last season. However, I do not rate Motta very much, perhaps good enough for a midtable team but not Juve.

Aguero signing for Juve will represent an excellent job done by Marotta and co, esp with Juve not contesting in Europe. Though I think signing both Aguero and Rossi will not be likely, even though Toni and Iaquinta are set to leave. Well, a strike force of Quagliarella, Aguero, Matri, Del Piero and possibly Rossi is a very good headache for Conte to have.

They've got a new stadium, owners that are willing to spend, most probably a couple of big names signing and a strong team. Anything less than a champions league position will definitely be a failure for Juve.

If Aguero does sign for Juventus then i would say they will have nailed on the best dealing in the transfer window, even without him it has been a good window thus far.

They have lacked a few things over the last few years but I think this window will have addressed all their problems, i fully expect them to get a CL place this season.

Very enjoyable thread. Good analysis!

Any idea when the fixtures will be annouced. Me and a few mates are thinking of going over to italy to watch a game but that obviously depends on flight prices/fixtures etc!

All pointing to them signing Gervinho though. Don't quote me on it but I could see them signing him in the week as Wenger desperately needs a win after Clichy (and most likely) Nasri going and Barca stepping up their interest on Cesc

Yeah mate, could be right there. I'd bet Arsenal fans aren't too happy at the moment so a signing will please them, even if only for a moment.

His name is Ricky Alvarez and he is from Velez in Argentina. He is supposed to play all the midfield roles so he can fill in anywhere in the mid which is good. I have never seen him play, but he is supposed to be a tricky player. He had a brilliant campaign this season and that has led to all this interest so hopefully he turns out good. At 11 million it isn't cheap.

He's really good, very very technical and tricky and altough not exactly fast he has a good turn of pace, he was the best player for velez in the first game of the libertadores semis in my opinion, he played wide and caused a lot of problems for the peñarol defense, no idea why he didn't start the second game.

AC MILAN SEASON 2011 2012

Last Season: 1st

Coach: Massimiliano Allegri

Squad Analysis: Milan had a great campaign domestically. They suffered a small blip during the middle, but started and finished strongly. They be looking to improve in Europe this year after getting knocked out by Spurs last time out. In goals they have Christian Abbiati as the no.1 and Amelia as the back up. They could do with getting someone better even though Abbiati had a good campaign. In defence they have the immaculate and classy duo of Nesta and Thiago Silva who were comfortably the best CB pairing in Italy last year (and maybe Europe). Their fullbacks werent the best with Antonini and Abate lining up. They added quality and depth to the backline though already in the transfer window, with Mexes coming in from Roma (although hes injured for the first few months), and Nigerian Taiwo coming in at left back from Marseille. Bonera, Yepes and Emanuelson provide the backup as well. In midfield, the Rossoneri were brilliant, with Gattuso, Flamini (providing the grit) and Seedorf (providing a touch of class) enjoying a renaissance in form last year. Boateng was a vital cog as well bringing in a lot of youthful exburence and much needed energy to the midfield. Van Bommel was an inspired mid season signing as well on a free, providing even more experience to the centre of midfield and thus usual mainstays Ambrosini and Pirlo were not missed at all last season.

Up front, Milan had immense talent probably only matched by their egos. Robinho. Pato. Ibrahimovic. Cassano. All wonderfully talented players, with a knack of creating unrest in the dressing room (besides Pato). Ibrahimovic won them so many points singlehandedly during the first half of the season before suffering a massive drop in form. Robinho also (surprisingly) had a great debut season in the Serie A, while Pato also showcased his talents scoring 14 goals in 25 games. Cassano also providing some magic and creativity scoring and setting up since moving on a free mid season. Inzaghi was injured for most of the season but still enjoyed a memorable moment scoring a double against Real Madrid. Milan have already been very active on the transfer market picking up prodigious talent Stephen El Shaarawy from Genoa, along with KP Boateng permanently, and Mexes and Taiwo on frees. Pirlo, Sokratis and Merkel have left, with rumours rife that Cassano might be leaving as well for Fiorentina or Napoli to ensure he has enough playing time to keep his place in the national team for the Euros. Ganso and Hamsik are the two big names they are chasing in the off season to add some even more class to the already super talented midfield. Finally a word for the coach, Allegri did a sensational job winning the Scudetto in his first year so credit where its due.

Player to Watch: ALEXANDRE PATO: This kid is ready to explode this season. Extremely quick and deadly, he has been nagged by injuries in the last few years, but is an immense talent. Every time he runs at the defence he always causes trouble and has a very healthy strike rate in terms of goals. Look for him to shine at the Copa America with the Selecao as well. 'The Duck' is blessed with alot of pace and skill and he usually performs better when Ibra isnt playing and he is the main man in the attack and has more freedom. He is also rumoured to be dating the chairmans daughter.

This guy is supposed to be the real deal. Wears the famous number 10 of River, ive seen him play a couple of times (plus I've seen some Youtube videos). He's very creative, an excellent dribbler and can play some defence splitting passes. Napoli are apparently favourites to sign him - probably to replace Hamsik as the trequartista.

Elsewhere Lazio have just signed ex Sunderland skipper Lorik Cana, and goalkeeper Marchetti from Cagliari.

What is your interpretation of the latest developments regarding the Calciopolli where Inter are alleged to have committed sporting fraud? Will they be punished like Juventus or just have the 2005-06 Serie A title revoked from them? Will they get some points deducted from them next season? Is this why Morratti has yet to sign any player other than Alvarez?

Eran Zahavi

I heard, wouldn't be surprised if hes another gem (ala Kjaer, Pastore, Ilicic). That goal against Lyon was insane.

Any news on Inzaghi, Bigmarcs? Is he staying on another year?

Inzaghi's staying on for another season. He signed the contract about a month ago, and his experience will help although he will be getting even less playing time with Paloschi (ironically named the new 'Pippo' Inzaghi) now fully owned by Milan.

Cheers mate.

To be honest I havent read too much into it. Nothings official although we may get our 2006 championship stripped. The thing is these allegations have surfaced before and we came out unscathed so I wouldnt be surprised if it was all bullshit like before. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if we were involved given the state Italian footballs in at the moment. I dont think we'll get points deducted if we do get charged, but I wouldnt know for sure. Hopefully this calciopoli scandal can finish once and for all and we can just concentrate on the football.

This is worrying, hope he doesn't go to United, will be a massive blow for us if he went there.

And this Alvarez fella looks quite something, hope he makes it in a tough league like the Serie A.

Alvarez to Inter meant that Arsenal has lost out again in the transfer market. I'm pretty sure they have been in contact with Velez and the player earlier than Inter. Really keeping my fingers crossed over Alvarez's transfer as Sneijder has been linked to a move, notably man utd has always been rather interested in him. Hope he's not seen as a replacement for him.

The Palermo president said that Alvarez to Arsenal was a done deal about a week ago. He later backtracked his comments and now Inter are seen as the clear favourites. I think we'll find room for both of them, Alvarez can add more dynamism to the midfield something that we lack abit. No one to really carry the ball from midfield to the forward line at pace - Sniejders probably the only player we really have and Stankovic to a lesser extent.

Who do you go for in the Italian league Singaporekopred ?

He's more of a play maker than a winger mate, he's awesome really good catch by Inter.

Thanks for clearing that up. Hopefully he turns out to be another Pastore  ;D

This is worrying, hope he doesn't go to United, will be a massive blow for us if he went there.

And this Alvarez fella looks quite something, hope he makes it in a tough league like the Serie A.

If Sniejder leaves, then the only destination is Manchester United. He would flourish there no doubt, but if is brought in to replace Scholes in a 4-4-2 then there could be some problems as I still have my doubts to whether he can cope in a 2 man midfield. He is best in a free role (trequartista role) with 2 destroyers behind him, so he can float around and probe the defence. Ferguson isn't an idiot anyway, he'll figure a way to get the best out of the Dutchman.

Thats worrying. What about him dealing with the physicality in the league?

Getting Sneijder would have whiskeynose re-arrange his teams setup, I feel.

Which could (most likely wont) mean they'd have to have 2 more CMs / a CM DM combo if they play a 4231. Who the heck in their current squad would do those jobs for them? Fletcher's one, who's the other I wonder. Yes, they have players who can do the job, and thats what the "thunder-cunting f*ck tron" will do. Just put in someone who can do the shifts. Anderson?

Whatever the combos, f*ck them, hope Sneijder doesnt go there.

Alvarez looks like a handy player, though!

The Italian League seems to unearth some real gems every year. Pity most are picked up by the so called 'big clubs' every year (from Spain and England). But still, remains one of my favorite leagues to watch. Have stayed up crazy hours to watch Serie A games each season.

So far I wouldn't say I am a supporter of any team in Serie A as yet. But I do follow the 2 Milanese clubs a lil more than the others (news, players interviews etc). Milan this season has been really good to watch and I'm impressed with them. They play good attacking football and of course also due to the fact that they have probably one of the best attacking department in Europe with Ibra/Robinho/Pato as forwards and Cassano/Seedorf/Boateng in the trequartista role. Allegri has been quite a revelation that I didn't expect. For Inter wise, I have kept an eye on them since Mourinho took over due to curiosity on how the Special One would fare in Serie A and they are really a winning unit under him, such as how Inter held on at Nou Camp in 2010 despite Motta sent off early in the game and they progressed with a 3-2 aggregate. That was a masterclass for defending. For this season, results didn't go well for Benitez in the first half of the season despite winning the World Club Cup with Leonardo coming in, I thought he did a decent job and he has a likeable personality (not on the other Milan side for sure). I also liked the way Udinese played. I find that they are an underated team. Perhaps finishing 15th the season before did not reflect well but they are a pretty good team and especially strong in their forwards and their two attacking full backs (Armero and Isla). Though a couple of their key players (Inler esp) will move on to other clubs, it's still great to see them playing in the champions league this season.

Appearantly he is supposed to have rejected an obscene amount of money from that Anzhi club in Russia. Will be interesting to see how he'll fare under Enrique

Good on him!

That said with Roma's new owners i'm sure he won't be counting the coppers in his arse pocket.
People still underrate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gasperini has said he definetly intends on playing 3-4-3 with the Inter side, but such is the array of quality within the squad he could revert to 433 and 442 with ease.

Palacio looks like he will join at some point over the summer too, I hope Gian does well there.

If Juventus were to snap up Aguero, Roma make some big signings with their warchest, could make for a great season.

Apparently Roma are also signing Stekelenburg? Gonna be a very competitive season next year.

As I said in the Copa thread, Burdisso has spoken to Higuain and Pastore, both said they'd have contact from Roma representatives.

Whether they sign either of those two, unlikely of course - it shows the intent from the Roma investors and Luis Enrique, I hope he has the Guardiola effect and turns them into a challenging side, not because I am a Roma fan, but i want abit more competition in the league, a new Calcio champion would be interesting.

Yeah, Just thinking now, it's been a whole decade since the Scudetto went anywhere but Turin or Milan. I'd love to see teams like Napoli going one step further this year, and winning the league. Is there any legs on the rumour that Napoli are in for Alex Sanchez?

Zamparini has confirmed that Napoli have enquired about Javier Pastore, while the Udinese president has also said that the Neapolitans have made an 'interesting offer' for Alexis Sanchez. Going for a big signing this year, especially if one of the big three - Hamsik, Lavezzi or Cavani leave. They have also signed Federico Fernandez from Estudiantes.

Ex-red Djibril Cisse is also 'close' to signing for Lazio, which is strange as they have enough forwards.

Cavani won't leave, surely? Didn't he just join them this summer? (He was on loan before that, right?)

I cant see him leaving either, but the 16 million dollar fee was agreed when they loaned him. They had to purchase him even if he had a terrible season - its a similar deal to the Ibrahimovic to AC Milan. If he fires at the Copa America and Madrid and Manchester City offer big money, I doubt he'll turn them down.
