Liverpool quiz question
« on: December 15, 2016, 05:26:34 pm »
This question was on the  local radio about six months ago , apparently it had been going for a week , as soon as i heard it I knew the answer went on the show and won  but anyone i asked never knew it without a good few clues . So here it is and if you know the answer or happened to hear me answer then pm to see if it's right ...here goes this is how it was phrased on the radio

In the 70s this item was paid for in a certain area of Liverpool and to my knowledge nowhere else in the country , the people who purchased the item were supposed to give it back but many just threw them away ...what is it

I think I may know what this is now.

Although not in this country, there's a good story regarding Joey Jones and these items. Am I right?

Don't know the answer to the question in this thread but I'd like to know - PM me please.

If anyone who sees this would like to get involved in quizzing at a competitive level then please let me know. I help run the Liverpool Quiz League and there's always teams looking for new players - or if you can form a new team then all the better. Our website is http://www.quizliverpool.org.uk/ or you can get in touch with me. It's a great league (and the oldest in the world) with plenty of friendly people playing and we play our matches on Monday nights.

If you already have a pub quiz team or find yourself shouting the answers at the telly at The Chase, Eggheads or Mastermind we could well be for you.

Here goes in the late 60s our  ::) neighbours built a new main stand and top balcony this was in the day when they were known as the " Mersey millionaires " and did actually have a pot to piss in . Anyhow they built this stand which possibly was the best in the country and in the ultimate of luxury when you entered the stadium you could purchase a blue cushion to sit on which you watched the holy trinity win the championship in 1970

Alas this was the start of a 14 year barren run of trophies ( there consistent if anything ) and the new stand was now filled through the early 70s with plenty of disgruntled supporters ..though there arses were lovely and warm , anyhow after a defeat which there were plenty of it became  a bit of a tradition in the stand that instead if returning the cushions to a skip like container they would be launched like frisbees onto the pitch in anger ...a sort of precursor to the fewm we see today .

As one contributor to this topic mentioned .. A similar thing happened in a European away game involving Liverpool . I think it was either benfica or barca ... But the reds became the first team to win a European game at this stadium and the locals were not happy with there teams performance and went full everton and rained the cushions onto the pitch in disgust . Our left back at the time  joey jones ( a lad who had stood on the kop )  thinking they were aimed at the reds started throwing them back at the fans until sir bob got hold of him and explained the situation .
