Suggestion for Anfield once New Anfield is built
« on: June 20, 2009, 02:44:27 pm »
I've read some of the proposals for redevelopment of the area once (if) the new stadium is built and I'm unaware of the regulations, but I'd love to see our old ground redeveloped as a the new Melwood with a brick edifice three or four stories all round built in character with the neighborhood.

Toronto's Skydome, Chelsea and probly Arsenal's stadiums have hotels in em so patrons can watch a game from their room.

Imagine a hotel in Liverpool where you can look out your window and watch LFC train every day.  Shops for the punters on the ground floor all round, a coupla hundred hotel rooms for all the tourists that would normally come in for the day but with training observance available would extend that visit for a day or two before the match then the match itself.  The trophy room could stay intact and the whole experience would be everything short of the actual match.  No player contact though, don't want them distracted by hundreds of crazed fans every day.

The place could act as a home for our reserves with seating for 10-15K, all sorts of lesser matches could be played there, we could even let Everton use it if they wanted a classier joint.

Such a place would create hundreds of permanent jobs and revitalise the area.

Thoughts?

The 'pitch' will become a public open space as part of the land swap deal to compensate for the loss of public space in Stanley Park. So nice idea but it couldn't happen.

Anfield Plaza has outline planning permission and the permitted uses are outlined in the planning approval.

4.2 As part of this application outline planning permission is also applied for
to redevelop the site of the current stadium (to be known as Anfield
Plaza) for a mixed use development including employment related uses
(Class A2/B1), combined food and drink uses and ancillary retail
(Classes A3/A1), community use (Class D1), residential uses including
that of a hotel (Classes C1/C3), and open space subject to an illustrative
masterplan and development brief.   An artist impression of Anfield
Plaza is shown as Appendix 16.

8.10.4 Range of Uses Proposed

The development brief identified the following range of uses
incorporating a total floor area of 16,660m2 , and which are included in
the outline element of the application to include;

• Use Class A3 (Food and Drink)/ Use Class A1 (Ancillary Retail) –
4,000m2
• Use Class A2 (Financial) / Use Class B1 (Business) – 2,760m2
• Use Classes C1/C3 (Residential Uses  – 4,450m2  (includes the hotel)
• Use Class D1 (Non-Residential Institutions) ie: community related uses
– 3,350m2

add to that the fact that there just isn't enough room.  Besides the club would probably prefer people not looking in on training sessions if they can help it.

Hotel viewing at a new training ground?  Why don't we just video our structure for the next game and distribute it to the next lot of oppo. by e-mail...we could even youtube it perhaps for all to see.  Or would the hotel guests have to promise not to tell anyone?
