Apparently we have been trying him out at right mid in training.
If he is to feature there then, let it be so. It seems like an emergency thing, which I'm okay with.

In such a sumptuous festival of shite, I wouldn't be so quick to pick a winner..

But he'd make the shortlist

Henderson hasn't played much over the last few weeks either, he should be fine. I'd imagine something along these lines:

                  Reina

Kelly    Carra    Coates   Aurelio

         Spearing   Lucas

Kuyt          Bellamy      Maxi

                  Carroll

Could be anything really, a strategy for stretching teams, a more defensive lineup, to practice attacking with less space to run into.

                    Reina
Kelly    Agger      Carra     Fabio

            Spearing  Lucas

                      Maxi
Bellamy                         Suarez
                     Carroll

Agger playing right centreback for a reason? He's notoriously injury prone surely top of the give a rest list?
Lucas and Suarez just ran themselves into the floor - any reason to play them again 48 hours later? both key players but isn't that why you protect them rather than risk them?

Why not try out Coates at CB?

Think we have 9 players - plus flanagan, wilson, robinson that you could play without fear that they'd let you down - but we are short of one in midfield (Shelvey and Gerrard) and one attacking player

You could cover the centre mid with either lucas or henderson playing a half each (as we've done with CB the last couple of rounds). Is there the potential for extra time? If so - its the fitter lad second I guess.

in terms of attack - you could try the same with kuyt/suarez/downing  - or go with a young kid

wide options -

Eccleston is probably the most developed whether he's good enough is another issue , Sterling has the most potential but is a liability defensively, Silva totally unpredictable, Ngoo very raw

centre options -

Eccleston, Ngoo, Adorjan, Morgan, Suso

I'd be tempted to play one of these players in the starting 11 - all the wide lads have got pace, Morgan has a great work rate, Adorjan and Suso clever on the ball but both probably better used later in the game when they have space  - as nuisance value and unpredictability alone I think we could justify including one youngster in the line up
The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie — deliberate, contrived and dishonest — but the myth — persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

Am I the only one tired of 'Johnson as a RM/winger' talk. He is our best RB, why push him forward and try to change his game?

Agreed

AND it would send the wrong message to Hendo, Kuyt and whoever else is vying for the wing position. So yeah, keep Johnson at RB. However, I think all this talk of him playing there is only due to the fact we have another excellent RB (Kelly) so fans would want them both accommodated in the team.

I'm not even going to guess the line up. It could be anything.

The old school brigade will have a heart attack but this will probably be a line up heavily dictated by what the medical team say! ;D We have no idea who's recovered enough to start.

I have faith in our squad though. Whether it be Carra, Coates, Kelly, Aurelio, Flanagan, Maxi, Bellamy, Spearing or Carroll, there isn't a single player in our first team squad I don't have confidence in. What a great feeling that is. Vastly different from last season. :scarf

Not only that- what about all those times we faced each other since 2003?
We came out on top in the big games, knocked them out of the Champions', beat them in the Charity Shield, we broke their unbeaten home-record, humiliated them last season at Anfield and also put a dent in their amazing form of beginning last season, rubbed salt in their wounds yet again this season..

They must be throwing up at the thought of us. Poor bastards. I think this fixture(the LFC vs. Chelsea fixture- not the competition-specific fixture) is the most contested fixture in England in the last decade or so.

Maxi - Spearing - Adam - Downing

This midfield should do fine. Both Adam (of late) and Spearing will run their socks off. With Gerrard coming back (who knows when) we are not running into the trouble of burning up Adam; we won't have many games where a midfield of three is needed. If Bellamy plays, then Maxi can move further in and we play a 4-3-3.

Me neither, maybe they'll play Torres :). Should be a good enough side and a fair enough contest. Hoping for us to go through somehow.
