Wimbledon 2015
« on: June 28, 2015, 01:36:46 pm »
I feel like this deserves its own thread being the most prestigious in the World. Begins tomorrow and I cannot wait.

Mens singles main matchups First Round:

Djokovic v Kolschreiber (Potential matchup with Lleyton Hewitt in 2nd round)
Wawrinka v Sousa
Nadal v Bellucci
Murray v Kukushkin (Potential match ups: Tsonga quarters, Federer semis, Djokovic final)
Federer v Dzumhur

From an Aussie point of view it would be great to see Hewitt get into the second round to face Djokovic in his final Wimbledon. Could think of nothing better for a former champ than to sign off on Centre Court.

Around this time last year I celebrated my 21st birthday by:

- Being in London
- Going to Wimbledon
- Watching Lleyton Hewitt
- Meeting Mark Webber, Bec Cartwright and Tony Roche
- Watching Kyrgios beat Nadal

By far the greatest tennis day of my life and can't see it being beaten. This year I'm stuck at home in boring old Melbourne. Although I'm looking forward to watching the tournament at crazy hours again.  ;D

Hopefully Williams and Sharapova get knocked out in the first round. Would be some tournament on the ladies side if that happens.

Good weather in the area this week . I also reckon Djokovic and Williams to win .
He'll win the league in the next 3 years. Quote me on that.
Quote me on this, but come next season he'll be great for us. Just needs to remove the walking headless chicken next to him

she's gone out 3 times at the 2nd round point in the last ten years, 2 semis and a final in those ten years too.

personally i think she will struggle big time with Konta tomorrow, 3 setter or out in 2

Thinking of going on Friday in 'the queue', never been before so one to tick off the list. Also good news for James Ward with Ferrer unfortunately having to pull out. He now faces Luca Vanni who I see Ward beating comfortably so for once Andy won't be alone in the second round

I was in court 1 for quarter finals day a couple of years ago, and late in the afternoon, someone came up the stairs and asked if I'd swap my seats for theirs in centre court as they wanted to watch the legends doubles. So I went and watched Murray's match. Some people!

Yup, it's great. If you go to one of the ticket booths they also resell tickets of people who have left early for about 10 quid. Definitely worth a shot if anyone is desperate to try out centre court.

Hoping for a Swiss final in both women's and men's singles  :lickin

I think this might be the last GS Roger Federer can really challenge for. I'm hoping he wins it all again.
Last resort if you need tickets in Switzerland.

What time you planning on queuing? From what I've heard you need to be there around 6pm the day before to have a chance of the show courts. Inm planning on getting there in the morning before the first tube arrrives so around 5.30 to get a grounds pass. It's the third round on Friday - Im right in thinking there will will be still quite a few matches on the outside courts?

3rd Round is spread over two days - last 32 so there will be 16 matches for Men and 16 for Women (so probably only 8 of each scheduled for the Friday, with the same amount scheduled for the Saturday). There will be matches played on some of the bigger outside courts that I think you can queue for. Then there will be plenty of Doubles and Over 35's etc going on which should still make for good viewing.

Come on, Nick, this is Wimbledon, you know better than to think there won't be any rain.

I'm getting there for about 3am Tuesday morning. My mum went slightly later than that last year (also on the Tuesday) and got onto Court Two so I'm hoping for the same this year.

Bring a good book though, you have to queue for a good few hours.

I went on the 2nd Tuesday last year for the Fourth round and caught the first tube in. Got there around 6-6:30 and was about 1500th in line. Managed to get court two and there were still a couple of mens singles on the shows courts.
There'll be plenty for the 3rd round.

Got Verdasco as the last leg of an accumulator. Tense.

Well done to Broady. Can't beat a plucky Brit coming back from 2 sets down to beat an Aussie.
