Space age technology - helmet can't survive fire?
Someone should do the right thing - go back in time to 1992 and destroy the codes to Championship Manager before it is ever released

Why would look let it burn only to keep it after?
Football without fans is nothing.

We've won 18 titles, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, but today must be the greatest victory of all.

Well, what's it made from? In the universe, that is.
Vader (Anakin) was half burned alive by fire, it makes sense they'd build his suit with some kind of fire resistance in mind
Or maybe he had more than one helmet and mask?
Space age technology - helmet can't survive fire?
;D im probably over thinking it. But the fire would of been enough to turn a body and bone to ash, and with that suit on it would of taken forever, if it was super space age technology with some kind of fire resistance in mind. ''Okay, this will take a while, and i've got a party to go to, i'll head off and come back when it's done''. Strolls back next morning and sees the mask still there, scoops out what's left that didn't totally burn to a sinder due to the protection of the helmet and pop it in his rucksack?

Or maybe Luke didn't go back at all, till years later, and by this time anything that would of been left from the protection of the suit would of disentigrated.
Actually forget it, it's only a movie ffs. Over thinking it ;D

Hasn't anyone thought that whoever kept the Vader mask could be the villains and not Luke? Kylo Ren has an old, ancient style lightsaber, maybe he's the one who's seeking Sith artefacts? (Vaders helmet being one of them).

Vaders helmet was mainly durasteel I think, which is a very strong alloy that's extremely heat resistant. Might have also had obsidian in it too, I can't quite remember. /nerd

Yes, I have assumed it was Kylo Ren rather than Luke who has it. And speaking of him, here's a decent close up of his sabre hilt.

Kylo Ren's Lightsaber makes no sense at all.

All a Jedi needs to do is run his lightsaber down the side and it'll cut off the metal on the hand guards.

In which case you just break the metal using the aforementioned method, then Kylo can't hold it properly in case he burns his hand.

No! Look again, the cross guard's blade emitting shroud is in fact U shaped in cross section. This means the energy beams upper edge is exposed and in effect bleeds into the main shaft forming an impenetrable barrier.

In use you'd end up injuring or killing yourself with the cross guards anyway. If you watch the fight in the original between Obi Wan and Vader, its based on Kendo and a lot of the attacks you use will start near your head or body and you end up with the sword and your hands near your face when blocking an opponents attack. The handle is round, not shaped to fit like a bokken or a katana, so its likely to rotate in your grip and end up with one of the cross guards pointing towards you.

I wonder if this film will be trailered to death like Avengers was. If you watched the Graham Norton show, they had virtually half the Hulk-buster fight clip on; and that is one of the biggest (best?) set-pieces of the film!

I tend to think it won't be. For some reason, the Avengers seems to have been over the top on the marketing, they didn’t really do it as much for the first one. For some reason, I wonder if it’s because they were worried about audience fatigue for this one, that they decided to really go to town on the clips, interviews etc?

One reason I don’t think this will go down that route is the way they’ve marketed it so far, as we know JJ Abrahams is notorious for secrecy, is that the teaser and the second teaser both essentially showed the same scenes just from slightly different perspectives. And they still haven’t given anything away character wise. No sense of story, no lighstaber fights etc. We’ve basically seen Rey, Finn, Poe and the Falcon from different angles. That’s all.

So I don’t think they’ll suddenly hammer it before it comes out. It’s Star Wars, it doesn’t need it.

I know there are a lot of fanedits out there, but has anyone gone to the required lengths to totally excise the not-so-amazing bits of the OT (e.g. some/most/all of those Ewok scenes from ROTJ) and the PT (a great many things), and create the ultimate epic, which is basically perfect in amost every way?

Just keep the good bits from the PT (and there are some really good bits when viewed in isolation, unspoiled by the crap surrounding them), to create a very palatable truncated experience that can be taken seriously (well, as seriously as Star Wars can be taken), as an extended prologue of sorts, then keep most if not all of the IV & V intact, and finish with an overall tonally-darker VI, which really emphasises Lord Vader's ultimate redemption for maximum dramatic effect, and doesn't let up the heavy mood with too many annoying cutesy/light relief moments. Basically tell the Anakin Skywalker story that the saga always deserved, be ruthless with editing out the junk. Some will have to remain for any real narrative sense to be made of the subsequent strong scenes, but they generally would be subsumed into the overall stronger flow of the tale.
