Wondering myself what team Rodgers will go with ?

Can't see Agger playing and IMO Sturridge looks like he isn't completely over his injury

.............Mignolet
Kelly? Toure Sahko Enrique ?
.... Lucas ...Henderson
.............Gerrard?
Suarez.... Sturridge?....Moses

Still question marks over Enrique and Kelly been fit enough ?

Gerrard looks out on his feet and Id bench him for the Utd game more than likely a unpopular choice but he needs to be managed better

With utd having Champions league away game the following week wondering how strong a side Utd will put out ? But then again it's us

Maybe Suarez won't start but gut feeling is Rodgers will start him and take him off after about 70 mins

Strong as possible if you ask me but also remaining sensible.

Gerrard looks shot at the moment as does Lucas but expect to see at least one of them play.

Sturridge needs a full rest as he is not fully fit.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

Huge game for us this, really hope we put a strong side out and go for the win. I assume they will play a second string type side and rest a few, but we have no excuses not to go full strength for this one.

Agreed. I don't care if it's against Utd. This is the time to get some playing time if Rodgers thinks he's not ready for PL football.

No gerrard whatsoever in this game. Not even on the bench. He needs to regain his energy for the sunderland game.

Would like to see a :

a)midfield 3 of Hendo, Allen and Alberto.
b)Sterling, Aspas and Ibe

Bring on suarez during 2nd half.

I'd like to see something like

Mignolet

Wisdom    Toure    Sakho    Enrique

Lucas

Allen    Alberto

Sterling                              Moses

Suarez

Give Sturridge the final 20 mins if needed but he really could do with a proper rest along with Gerrard and Henderson.

Mignolet
Kelly  Skrtel  Sakho  Enrique
Lucas  Hendo
Allen
Sterling                Moses
Suarez

If Gerrard starts its incredible.

I'd rest Sturridge.

I want to see the midfield 3, hope they get a chance.

Suarez back and straight into the line-up.

A solid team, but players rested too.

It's a difficult one for Rodgers. I think this one could be crucial for rebuilding confidence, but at the same time, we can't risk injuries to players who aren't 100% fit.
I think it's ridiculous that we look lacklustre in the second half of games, so early into the season, and we're talking about resting players.
I'd play Suarez and Moses in the front 3 with Sturridge, and Henderson behind them in midfield.
With Van Persie out of the derby today, hopefully also out of Wednesday's game. They will really miss him.

Personally I think we have to go with our strongest team which means gerrard plays, rest anyone in this game and we will come away with nothing.  If the players are fit they don't need resting as with no Europe they will all play less games than last season, if it was champions league we wouldn't say rest them and as there is no Europe the league cup moves up in the priority.

I would go with a back 4 of wisdom, toure, agger, Enrique. If agger isn't fit then skirtel.  Sakho seems way off to me and no understanding with the others at the back he needs more time on the training field before he's played again IMO. Gerrard, hendo and Lucas in the middle with a front 3 of Suarez sturridge and Alberto.  We would then be able to call upon Stirling and Moses as impact players from the bench for the last 20.

Really?

Gerrard has been a joke this season, especially the last 2 games. If we cant drop him for this one, then my hopes for the season and Rodgers take another hit.

Yes really.  Gerrard would make our strongest team not even close to being out of it, who would be a better option Allen? Gerrard is integral to the team performing well which shows as if he has a bad game the team falls apart around him- yesterday a good example.  From what I remember of yesterday's game his set piece early on was one of the only times we worked their keeper.

Small chance Rodgers drops Gerrard for this but on form or not, should Gerrard be playing 3 games in 8 days?

Aspas should start as the central striker for this... not sure Sturridge should play midweek unless as a sub.
Edit: forgot Suarez is back  ;D

Sturridge
Moses Suarez Henderson
Lucas Gerrard
Enrique Agger Sakho/Toure Kelly
Mignolet

Subs: Jones, Sakho/Toure, Wisdom, Alberto, Sterling, Ibe, Aspas

Would probably go with Toure for this just for the experience and Enrique/Agger/Toure plus Johnson has been our best back four so far this season.  Skrtel did well against these in the league but think he will be dropped after the Southampton game (although he wasn't the only one who played poorly).  We need two players who are comfortable playing full back for this, no more 4 centre backs ever again.  If Kelly is fit, he has to play RB over Wisdom.  Enrique's form is a worry for me but he's the only real option we have out there right now.

Suarez as the 10 and Henderson as the false winger, covering the space between Suarez and Lucas/Gerrard should work.

Come on Red men!

Alberto and Ilori should be starting. If they don't then I'm not sure what the point of spending £14m odd on the pair of them was. Got to give them games, whether it's United or not.

Tend to agree but I'm certain they won't both start and to be honest, I'll be surprised if either of them make the starting eleven.

I'm looking forward to this one. Think we will rest one or two,  think they will too. Both been beat so gonna be up for it,  anticipate a high energetic match.
For what it's worth I'd go with...

                                   Mignolet
Kelly             Ilori                           Sakho           Enrique

                              Allen (if fit)     Henderson

Ibe                                                                        Sterling
                                    Alberto
                                                  Suarez

If Allen isn't fit I'd seriously consider throwing in rossiter ,  we are physically fucked right now and if it means playing rossiter so Lucas and Gerrard can have a rest then so be it.  We need this fourth spot and we need fresh players and right now we look nothing but fresh. Leave sturridge out as he also looks shattered.

Yup, I think both managers will field a very strong, league fixture-level 11 to bounce from the weekend results.

Gerrard and Sturridge needs a rest. Suarez should be match fit considering he is playing those closed door friendlies and all.

                   Mig
Kelly   Skrtel   Sakho   JE
             Hendo  Lucas
                    Alberto
Sterling        Suarez  Moses

1-2 for us.

But BR will probably go with some thing like this  ;)

               Mig
Kelly   Skrtel   Agger   Enrique
          Illori   Wisdom  Sakho
                    Toure
Henderson      Suarez   Moses

 ;D

Really need to win this. Win this and against Sunderland at the weekend with a couple of decent performances and everything will be right as rain again. I hate the negative atmosphere there is on here after a defeat.

Hopefully RVP will still be out and we give games to some younger players like Sterling, Alberto, Ilori and Kelly. I also hope that Allen is fit enough to play, I think he could be a very important player to get us passing the ball effectively again.

If he has enough time to recover and play 90 minutes Saturday, Wednesday, and Sunday and be fit enough for all 3, then I've no issue with it. Just thought it may be asking a lot of him this early on in the season.

Really don't want Sturridge anywhere near this game. The lad clearly needs a rest, and the league game this weekend has to have priority so.

I can see no sense in approaching this with anything other than our strongest team.

United as a club are under a great deal of pressure especially with todays result and also with their run of games.

We need to take advantage of all of that and take them on and beat them in their own stadium. I don't care if it is just the league cup.

Apply the pressure in this game and it will give them another knock that will undoubtedly affect their league form as well.

Would like to see us go back to 433 for this(and the rest of the season). Play only one forward. If it's Sturridge then play Suarez right or rest Sturridge and play Suarez or Aspas up front.

Also I don't want to see CB's at fullback. Not even Wisdom. If our fullbacks aren't fit use our attacking wide players to fill in. We need to create chances and the fullbacks should be getting more space than anybody. They can't use that space to hurt the opposition if they're central defenders.

Do need to go back to the system we were using last season. It worked much better than the one at the moment.

Mignolet
Wisdom Toure Sakho Enrique
Gerrard Lucas
Suarez Henderson Moses
Sturridge

Come on Redmen!
Grim yesterday with no full backs.
Decided to pop to Melwood this am and through the wall saw Sturridge, Sterling, Suarez, Alberto, Flanagan, Kelly, Wisdom and Jones working on half pitch.
May not mean nothing but may give a pointer towards some who will start.
Come On You Mighty Scouse Reds!!
