Car Keys locked in boot - help!!
« on: September 25, 2009, 02:45:37 pm »
Right here’s the score. The bird has been to the garden centre with her nan. They bought some bits and pieces and drove to her nan’s house to drop it off. The got out, locked the car and unlocked the boot with the key fob and started unloading. The dizzy bint in question has then locked the boot with the car keys inside the boot itself.

Now it’s a 2 seater ford street ka. There’s no way into the boot from the car itself and there isn’t a button to “pop” it from the inside. The only way is with the key fob. She doesn’t have a spare.

Any helpful suggestions on what to do? Will the AA be able to break in for her?

I have multiple solutions, just need to see a picture of your bird first in order to assess which one is best for her.

Half tennis ball. Pop door lock. Enter car. Drop back seat, retrieve fob. Open boot.

"Had a customer phone me to ask if I could get in his car as he had locked the keys inside. I asked if he had a spare, he said yes. I told him to use the spare key. Cant, he said, its in the boot for safe keeping. "

Googled and got this:

Quote
semi related tale: last year when touring the UK in a brand new Ford Street Ka [link], my wife locked the keys in the boot(or trunk). Because there's no boot opening button inside the vehicle, we had to call road side asststance. The poor guy was baffled, he'd never seen a Street Ka before. He ended up having to call the United States and ask their engineers how to open the boot without a key. He ended up pulling all the wires out from inside the door cavity and shorting them (all this on a rented car). Eventually he found the right one and the boot clicked open. Moral of the story for car designers; make sure there's a boot release in the cab.

sorry cant help otherwise.

It should have read 'decimate'.

Happened to me a couple of months back.  Unfortunately had to put the window through.  Luckily for me, me dad is a bit of a parts dealer so we had a replacement straight away.

I think the Street Ka is the convertible version - in which case there is no window to smash or parcel shelf. I think people are getting confused with the normal hatchback Ka and this one. You might have to ring up Ford customer services and see whether they have a solution.

Apparently you used to be able to trigger the central locking by kicking a certain part of the bumper - it was a safety measure so if your doors are locked and you crash, your doors unlock.

Or you could push the car round to Vienna Street in Anfield - last time I parked my car there some scally's managed to get into my boot (although it did involve bending the door and smashing a window, so maybe not the preferred option).

My wife did the same thing when I had my focus. We had gone away for a weekend, she took my keys to go into the boot, opened it with the remote key, put keys down in boot, took shoes out of boot, shut boot. DOH! No problem I said, you've got my spare in your handbag. Problem - handbag is in car.

Had to call the AA out - they used a nice little trick of removing the break light from the boot lid and doing some little trickery which I won't detail on here :)

After that I kept the spare in my trouser pocket, I wasn't likely to leave them in the car.

Nightmare.

The AA feller came out and made her sign a waiver, that gave him permission to piss about with the car and absolve him of all responsibility. Eventually shorted the boot so it popped over and the keys were retrieved. But, now the boot wont open with the fob and when you central lock the car the hazard lights come on.

So yeah the keys have been got, but the electrics are fucked. Happy days.
Roy. Shut up. Just shut up.
