Backup your contacts from within the old phone, it should give you a .vcf file. Maybe more than one. Anyway get them on your PC and go into gmail and upload those files there. The S2 will then download them automatically.

funnily enough i bluetoothed them over, just tried thinking see what happens, if as per the norm they come in as messages wich then had to be saved individually i wouldnt but heres how it went,

in the nokia contacts i marked all then send business cards via bluetooth, all 400 and odd went in one go the s2 didnt even make a sound when i picked the s2 up and hit contacts they were already there in full singing phonebook, it must have known they were my contacts and just sorted the rest out for me automatically - took about 30 seconds in all

Yes, except the early rom leaks have shown this to look almost identical to gingerbread thanks to Samsung not updating any of the icons or other things you associate with the look of ICS.

I'm hoping they're just holding back the updated look of ICS for the SIII due out later this year, because as nice as the SII is, Touchwiz gets boring very quickly.

What on earth is Touchwiz ?

You've got an S2 haven't you mate? It's basically the interface you use when you use the phone. Think of it as a kind of 'overlay' over the operating system, so all the little swipes, movements and everything are part of Touchwiz if that makes sense.

Can't you just use a different launcher such as GoLauncher??

TouchWiz is the worst thing in the world. It's purely because of this feature that i don't want to get a Samsung phone. Problem is they are making the best phones at the moment. I have plenty of time though. At least HTC sense looks ok-ish and has one of two good changes. HTC Vile looks like it'll be the next big hardware upgrade at MWC or whatever the acronym is.

Definitely get GO Launcher, best launcher out there. Or root your phone and get a vanilla ROM to get stock Android.

Im currently using that on my Galaxy Ace but it slows it down noticeably when booting back up.  The ICS theme looks pretty good on it.  I took back the S2 once i saw the leaked ICS roms, I waiting on the S3 or HTC One X now.

Both likely to be great phones, but to be different I quite like the look of the LG Optimus L7.

It should do. I've just looked at mine and I'm showing 1 day 10 hours on battery with 29% left. That's with about half a dozen 5 minute phone calls, a couple of games, took a few photos which I edited & emailed, downloaded one or two apps and played around with them too. So that's not heavy use but it's some sort of guide.

I've been running Juice Defender since I got my phone last month and have it running all the time but according to its stats, it's only extending my battery life by 1.01x

it should as long you get reasonable on the usage (no playing games like call of duty game or watch a 1080p type movie) towards end of the day/night.

Looking to upgrade from my HTC Desire (great phone BTW) in the coming months to a S2 (Sim Free).  Quite expensive at the moment, cheapest I can see is £390 (Amazon).

Will this be likely to drop in price anytime soon or will I have to fork out around £400?

Hold the power button for like 5 seconds until a menu pops up.
If it says 'data network mode deactivated' then press that to enable it.

got the 3g sorted - it seems i hve to manually turn off the wifi for the phone to default to 3g, if wifi switch is on even though i leave the house and move out of range it will not auto default to 3g i still have to turn wifi off before 3g will kick in, anyway it works,

if you are saving to google, then it is done automatically (if not there is plenty of apps to do it like Backup Contacts). Check it in your gmail account under Contacts.  You'll also see where certain contacts are saved (sim, phone or google) there.

Just dropped my Galaxy S2 off at Carphone Warehouse to have the screen replaced. Quite impressed, £80 including parts and labour, and will be done by tomorrow lunchtime.

Couldn't find the screens cheaper that £100 online (ebay included, and fitting excluded), and doing it myself would void my warranty, this way I get it done properly, keep the warranty, and save money. Triple bonus.

So if anyone manages to break their screen like I did then would recommend giving them a go.

Does anyone have serious overheating problems with this phone?

Mine gets hot fairly quickly when playing games, to the point I have to stop playing and put it down. Not sure if that's normal.

Has anyone tried to put an HTC rom on the Samsung? Does it work?

I'm thinking of picking up a Samsung S2, but I think I would miss Sense UI too much.
