Are they sick or do they get beached there?

I saw a video a couple of weeks ago of a pod of dolphins killing a porpoise for fun off New Quay in Wales, so it's possible that could be happening as well.

Effes making snuff videos now?

That’s a bit grim. Saw a pod of dolphins for the first time in Northern Ireland this summer which was pretty cool. And a seal sheltering from a storm. First time I’d seen either over there.

Not sure, think they get lost somewhat, plus the tide levels in the Mersey are some of, if not the biggest in terms of the difference in high tide and low tide so they probably get occasionally caught out by that.

If anyone does find a stranding, dead or alive, it's best to report it through this group: http://ukstrandings.org/how-to-report-a-stranding/

Love the prom and spent a lot of time down there as kid. It's always the first place I go when I'm back in Liverpool to remind me I'm home.

It'd be nice to go for an evening walk without being eyed up by doggers though. Back when we kids/teenagers, we used to run around thinking they were pedos. Remember breaking into the Old Trafford block and finding it covered in used johnnys, porn mags, and a single chair in the middle. Lovely stuff.

Twenty years later and they're still at it.

Also, don't know what it is, but walking through Otterspool Park on the way from the Prom to Aigburth Road gives me the creeps and always has done.

Edit: "old t0ilet" get's switched to Old Trafford  :D

I know what you mean. I think it's because the path is at the bottom of the old riverbed / lake when it was there. It's sort of like walking under water, you're not supposed to be there.

It feels much nicer walking the little paths at the top of the bank.

As a kid we’d get the 85 from Mill Street to the Vale and walk along the path and under the railway bridge all of which to a five year old seemed mysterious.

We never got as far as the cafe in the hill near the prom as my folks probably didn’t want me and my sister whingeing for lolly ices.

:D

I was there with a mate and his 5 year old the other week, the bridge is still mysterious to 5 year olds ;D
It's pretty overgrown with ivy hanging down from it, which makes it look even stranger. He was a bit disappointed when I explained it was just a railway bridge.

Just tell him a troll lives there. A proper Nordic troll, not a cellar dwelling social media abuse merchant - although that would sound terrifying to a five year old.

Re Otterspool park railway bridge - me & my mates use to play, I think it was called wallball, but instead of against a wall we'd kick it against the underside of the curve of the bridge.
It was brilliant, you'd create loads of different angles to send the ball to for someone to have to chase next.

We lived in Aigburth as a kid so I've got loads of memories of down the park as well, and as people have said, it was different.

45mph winds today but sun was beating down. Gorgeous. Explored all of it, the seats at the top - the stone deckchairs. Marvellous, did me good to just...

I dunno, defo a grief thing this, but seeing the waves with 45mph wind in my face and the sun is out - I dunno, mother nature is there right enough. Is nice to be confronted with something bigger than your own problems. I just sat off with headphones on and chilled for a bit and I feel good again

The last few have been with calm waters, I'd love it to be 10m today, it was fucking nuts down there earlier, water & waves everywhere. Would have been an amazing sight if it was 10m.

Wow that’s very cool. Are they often spotted around there? How can you tell them apart from dolphins? A little bit smaller?

Last summer a pod of dolphins kept being seen over by where we were staying in Northern Ireland, first time I’d seen them in UK/Irish waters.

I've heard of two being seen in the Mersey last year, though never by me. :sad

Apparently they swim up the Mersey against the tide, probably when all the fish is being flushed out!

I can't say for sure it wasn't a dolphin but it's unlikely, Porpoises have been seen around New Brighton in the past.
It was quite cool, particularly when I realised there was quite a few.

Yeah, sadly we get a few harbour porpoises washed up dead by Fort Perch Rock each year.  Good to see they're going further up river though, I just thought they were limited to the mouth of the Mersey.
