Head of physiotherapy Chris Morgan is to leave Liverpool after 10 years at the club.
Morgan joined the Reds in 2005, working his way up from reserve team physiotherapist to become the club’s head of physiotherapy.
Morgan graduated from Bradford University in 2000 with a BSc honours in physiotherapy, he would work for the NHS and Private Practice upon leaving university and worked in the academies of both Manchester City and Leeds United.
He also holds a Masters degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Liverpool.
Speaking recently about his role at Liverpool, Morgan said: “I am just approaching my 10th season at the club having initially joined as reserve team physiotherapist before progressing through to my current role, a post I have held for two seasons.
“Obviously my time at the club means I have become very specialised in sports physiotherapy and in particular in professional football. My role as part of large sports medicine and science team is to maximise player availability and enhance performance within the first team squad.
“I sometimes still have to pinch myself that I have ended up with my current job and, although it’s taken a lot of hard work, everybody needs that break to get into the top level.
“I’ve experienced FA Cup and Champions League finals and been involved in some of the biggest games in the world at some of the most amazing stadiums. But more than that I have the opportunity to work with some of the best footballers in the world on a daily basis at Melwood and do my little bit to get them out onto the pitch on a Saturday. I appreciate that every single day.”
Morgan’s departure continues with Jurgen Klopp’s shake-up of his backroom staff. Ryland Morgans, head of fitness and conditioning, left just prior to the end of the season.
Former Bayern Munich fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer will join Klopp’s backroom staff this summer, the 41-year-old has been hand-picked by the Reds boss to replace Morgans.
