As a two? Yes probably.  Origi, Sturridge and Firmino as a front three more likely.

Klopp and most of you will want to go totally full strength - which I can understand.

For me personally I'd be all about a 2nd ish string team including the likes of TAA, Moreno, Karius, Kev Stew, Emre, Origi, Lucas...

I'd go strong at CB though and probably also include one or two of Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho (for a sub appearance if he's able).

No chance Klopp will do this..

We have a semi-final at stake, we're not going to field a young side against Soton.

Bullshit scheduling again. We travel away to Southampton on a Wednesday, while United play their FA cup game a day before us and that too at Old Trafford. They get one extra day of rest with no travel. This just gives them an unfair advantage for the game on Sunday.
You do know that it's the other way around for the second leg, right? It's not bullshit, it's based on the draw for the semi-finals. Anyway, I think if we can get a good lead away from home tomorrow, that will be great - another 6-1 wouldn't be too bad!

I think he is just using this game to help build up Karius' confidence. I expect Mignolet to be back in goal for the United game.

Giving Karius all of the Cup games for now gives him a chance to put in some good performances and reach a level where he is genuinely competing with Mignolet for the number one spot. As of now, it's Mignolet first choice and Karius the Cup keeper. If Karius keeps his head down and just does his job, then he will be in a much stronger position if Mignolet regresses any.

Might be tempted to start Moreno in this one actually, if the game is going to be like the league game. We had so much possession but arguably lacked some penetration and pace. No Mane as well this time so it may be quite slow and very ball-to-feet rather than running in behind or stretching the game.

Weird decision.

Our best team is with Mignolet in sticks.

Klopp has history with goalkeeping decisions like that: if he has two 'keepers on about the same level, he decides one is for Cup appearances and one is for the League.

Where he played for the youth team under Lijnders? What a horrible line-up indeed...

I wouldn't risk the stability especially seeing that Karius is going to have his chance. It's over two legs so no need to go gung ho.

We went there last season and played pretty much our second team and won 6-1. Im not advocating playing an under strength team but to say we need to play our first XI to win is wrong.

It wasn't our second team at all. Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Can, Lucas, Milner, Sturridge, Lallana were all starters at that point in time. Pretty sure Southampton played the likes of Caulker too. We also lost 3-2 with a stronger side in the league.

Play our strongest team as this is arguably more important than the Utd match.

If we lose over two legs against Southampton then that's a cup gone. Lose against Utd and we can recover over the remaining games.

So play our strongest team and worry about Utd afterwards.

We will play our strongest available team for both games.  For this one we will be missing Matip, Hendo and Milner (I think Milner is out for this one) to injury, Coutinho will have a place on the bench as he's not quite ready yet so we do have some limited options. It sounds like Karius will start in goal for this one.

All things considered, here's the lineup that I think Klopp puts out.

Karius
Clyne Klavan Lovren Moreno
Lucas
Can Wijnaldum
Lallana Origi Firmino

Bench: Migs, Sturridge, Trent AA, Ejaria, Woodburn, Coutinho

I think Can needs to start, he hasn't necessarily regressed in the last 8 months but he needs a run of games to gain some consistency, he's 22 and has the potential to go onto huge things.

It will be so hard for him to break the midfield three when Phil is back in the side but he needs to play to build confidence.

Fair enough I should have phrased it better and said about half and half, but i remember Bogdan, Randall, Origi, Allen all started and Smith and Ibe came off the bench. I wouldn't regard Lucas and Skrtel as genuinely being first choice last season either. The initial point I was trying to make anyway is that playing the full first team isnt a necessity to win down there. I know people like to downplay the quality that we have outside the first team but we do have decent players who would be more than capable of getting a win and Saints were arguably stronger last season. For what its worth I do believe we should go full strength because we badly need a trophy.

Full strength (from what we have available), no excuses. They've been really poor as of late and we should put them to the sword. It'd make our second leg a lot easier too. Coutinho needs minutes to get up to speed for the United match, so hopefully we'll see him at some point.

I'd like to see Origi and Sturridge start. I'd play TAA at right back and play Clyne at left back. I'd want to rest Milner for the mancs and I don't trust Moreno.

I'd also rest Lallana for the mancs and start in midfield Can, Wijnaldum and Stewart.

Not for me. 20 mins max for Phil in this one, so he can start against the mancs if everything goes well and play another 60.

He did well... against a League Two side that barely got out of their own half. If Milner is fit, he starts. He's pretty much better at everything as well. Defending, positioning, tackling, crossing, taking set pieces, shooting, going forward.

Over two legs I think we will progress. Would be great to wrap it up tomorrow though.

Be interesting to see us without Mane and still without a few of our other starters.

Feeling confident. 0-3 at least.
