To get the ICS update, do you do it through the phone's 'update software', or through kies?
That's about as funny as having impotency and a pregnant wife.

I'm on O2 but am going to give it a month before I download ICS, give them a chance to get rid of those bugs.

So ICS is officially out for the S2 ?

is it worth upgrading then ? dont want all the teething bugs that could be in the first edition like

Yep, been out for a week or so, but all the providers have been doing their little bits to it. 3 released it last week, O2 yesterday.

Did that not also put O2 bloatware on your phone?

Yeah, got all their rubbish that can't be removed, but had it on there originally anyway and just hid it all away in a folder called "other crap". It is possible to install some custom rom to avoid all that, but don't really want to go through the hassle of that and risk voiding the warranty.

To get the ICS update, do you do it through the phone's 'update software', or through kies?

Through Kies only I think, have to have it plugged in via usb.

I'm on O2 but am going to give it a month before I download ICS, give them a chance to get rid of those bugs.

Not found any bugs myself yet, but then I've only had it for a day so I'm sure some will appear. I did like the new face unlock feature for a couple of hours, but it soon grew annoying so I've gone back to using a pin.

Think the built in one is a bit shit

I was going to suggest the "Go Calendar", but I think its actually just a widget that hooks into the main calendar. Not tried any others myself, always found the stock one meets my needs.

Forgot about that. Worked fine until I upgraded to ICS, now says "not supported on this device" :(

Does anyone know how to deactivate a skygo account on a device? I have it activated on two iPads so can't activated it on my phone.

Just found the following at http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Using-Sky-Go/ice-cream-sandwich-on-galaxy-S2/td-p/356449:

Quote
We are working hard to ensure we can support new versions of the Android operating system, including the new "Ice Cream Sandwich" (v4.0) as they are released. At present Sky Go is supported on the most commonly used and latest Android operating systems 2.2 and 2.3.

Please note that if existing Sky Go users with Android OS v2.2 or 2.3 choose to upgrade to v4.0 they will not be able to stream content through the Sky Go app until the operating system can be fully supported. In order to ensure that our rights contracts are fully upheld we are also unable to support any Android devices that have been rooted.

To be honest, not found much myself yet that really makes it worth the upgrade, except the better task manager (when pressing and holding the home button), and it looks slightly nicer. I think Samsung have removed some of the good bits, such as the new navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen, because they have their own "touchwiz" interface. The new face unlock feature got tedious after about 10 minutes.

Biggest downside to upgrading is that Sky Go no longer works as mentioned above - didn't realise this until I upgraded. Not sure when they will be fixing it either. We've been invited to a party on Sunday, which will overrun the match against Newcastle on Sunday so I was going to watch it on my S2, looks like I'll have to use my iPhone now instead.

How much phone storage do we have on these? My Desire only had something ridiculous like 150mb, so had to move everything to SD.

You must have Edward Scissorhand style pointy fingers if you want it smaller than it already is. I have sausage fingers and have trouble with the standard keyboard.

I use Swype but you can install others. There are a few in the Android Market (now called Play) - Go Keyboard is a pretty popular free one  :wave

What are the best pay monthly deals at the moment? Currently have a Desire on Orange that I've paid £17.50 a month for with 500Mb data. I think there's a 'T' Mobile offer that works out at just over £18 a month with 1.5G data through mobiles.co.uk.

Depends what your after. I personally went for the cheapest one overall, and found a 12 month one at £36 a month. Works out at just over £430, which is cheaper than all other contracts (after taking into account cashback etc), and also cheaper than buying sim-free phone and sim only contract.

300 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb.
