Jesus trying to remember them but 2 stand out, Newcastle 1-1, and this season the second i think against Norwich, flick over the head of defender and off balance shot, you know the one what a goal.

near impossible to beat that one imo, anyone that thinks otherwise doesn't even play the game at the most basic level.

While I don't disagree that not everybody recognizes the skill involved in the Newcastle goal(most do, though) , I think the 3rd Norwich goal is a damn fine shout too.

sorry, I'm going to pick two, neither of which are probably amongst his 'Greatest Goals' but to me they showed real qualities in the player right at the beginning of his Liverpool career - they laid the foundation for his class since and must have given him so much confidence (if it was needed!!):

- his first goal: he mishit the final shot but it was his movement to create the chance that caught the eye live at the game as well as the bottle to take his first chance at a new club (& a nice behind-the-goal celebration for us on the Kop)

- that goal away at Fulham in the 5-2 win: showed a lot of skill and also lead to a boss celebration in the away end (was on crutches at the time & almost broke my other ankle in the mayhem  :o )

Newcastle goal is one the best solo goals I've ever seen. But the goal which sums up what Luis Suarez is about will be the 2nd against Norwich away last season. Glorious through-ball, Suarez on-side and then misses a sitter. How many players would still be shell shocked for the following 10 minutes or so?

Not Luis.

Fast forward 20s and Luis presses the defender, trademark nutmeg in the process, curl from outside the boot and in the net. Some players just never give up.

That was another goal similar to an earlier description of the Newcastle goal being fluid and efficient. Most players would have had to take an extra step.

However, I also have to opt for aforementioned Newcastle goal. A Newcastle fan I know still insists until now that he didn't mean to control that with his shoulder. I don't really blame him as I suspect he hasn't watched it again and again as we have. The thing is, he's been close to replicating that goal a couple of times with Enrique's constant early punts. That to me sums up how unbelievable this guy is.

This is such a hard question to answer because even his best goals are unique in their context and execution.
Some players can only score when they have a lot of time to do what they need to do.
Some players can only score when they are under pressure because they rely on instinct and too much thinking time freezes them.
Well, guess what. Luis is not constrained by both of those categories, and that's what makes him a special goalscorer.
His lob against Norwich (away) showed how he thinks and his pin-point accuracy and audaciousness.
Whilst his "shoulder-controlled" goal against Newcastle (above) showed his raw talent and ability to execute the amazing in a split-second and under pressure from the defender and on-rushing keeper.
2 very different mindsets and goals. But imo, equally breath-taking.

I'd like to propose a goal that combined both of the above:
His goal against Norwich (home) where he controlled it with his thigh and went on a 20 yard run, popping it over the defender, feinting to shoot to fool the 2nd defender, and then half-volleying past a despairing keeper.

World-class.

No fluke.

p.s. What makes me smile about Luis is that he means every goal. He knows what he is doing and it doesn't surprise him when the ball goes in. Watch how he does his pistolero/kissing celebration immediately after the ball goes in as if he was prepared to celebrate. His amazing skill doesn't amaze him because he expects it. It's normal and natural for him :)

He's scored so many great goals it's hard to remember all of them. Some of those free kicks by themselves would get on the highlights package of many a player's career but would hardly get a mention with Suarez's ridiculous goals  ;D

My favorite ones are Newcastle and the Norwich flick over Leroy Fer and half volley into the bottom corner. I suspect we'll keep updating this thread all through the season  :lickin

Anyone got the other angles for this one? ^

The GIF of that Newcastle masterpiece has been posted a number of times, but no one's put this one up yet, only talk about it. Still for me his greatest, and one of the best I've ever seen anyone score in all my years watching the game. At no point does he not still have loads to do to get it in the net; despite the amazing slippery guile & spatial awareness of that flick, he's still got defenders on him goalside and alert, set to block anything that isn't perfectly struck, and a keeper stood up, ready and well-placed on his line to do likewise. But it's all utterly futile, such is the pefection of the execution of something few players in history would have even imagined doing.

The Newcastle one is arguably more beautiful in a pure football-appreciation sense, but this one is like you're dreaming, it's barely even possible. It has similar essential elements of his close control attacking the area, instant awareness of what's around him, deception and sheer audacity, but then he just goes that bit further with it. Magical.

Merry Christmas All!  ;D

Watching that again, his decision to hit it while it was on it's way back up rather than when it came down made a world of difference.

The Newcastle one for so many reasons I think I could write a book on it.

I've never seen any player trap the ball with the top of his shoulder - we can all bounce the ball on our shoulders a couple of times between headers when juggling the ball (well maybe not all of us) but killing a ball that's dropped out of the sky with your shoulder is nigh on impossible. I thought he must have fluked it the first couple of times I saw it - even then he needs lightening reflexes and the deftest of touch to finish it off - but looking at it again he is clearly watching that ball onto his shoulder. Anyone else would have tried to chest it down, and then it's a goalkick. If I tried to do that with the shoulder, first of all I probably wouldn't even make contact with the ball, if I did it would bounce off my shoulder and go about three yards over the bar. If I tried to absorb the energy of the ball and kill it by dropping my shoulder a bit at the appropriate split second it would be heading to the corner flag at speed.

Then of course you have to do all this whilst running at full speed. Oh yes, and you are being tightly marked. And you have the constant fear that while you are sprinting forward at full belt and looking back over your shoulder, that keeper could clatter into you.

I cannot possibly imagine a better goal than this. Suarez though is capable of conceiving of one in a split second on any occasion.

PS I'm in work at the moment, so I'm not as much of a saddo as you think.

Either the Newcastle one, or his one against Norwich when he flicks it over the defenders head before dispatching it beyond the keeper.

Both ridiculously skillful.

If I had to chose ?

The Newcastle one.

Over the shoulder, out of the sky, and round the keeper and score, in what appears to be one movement.

Even fucking Dynamo couldn't do it.
13mins - Bournemouth have gone home. Utd kicked off anyway. Still 0-0 as Smalling passes it back to De Gea.

Watching that again, his decision to hit it while it was on it's way back up rather than when it came down made a world of difference.

The thing that threw everyone was that he waited an extra bounce before he hit it on the half volley. Everyone's expecting him to hit it after that first one and when he doesn't it throws everyone- and by the time they've readjusted themselves, the ball's in the back of the net.

But anyone that disagrees with you is wrong  ???

Nope, you can have you opinion as well.  My post was not meant to offend, it was more of an attempt to show how extreme my opinion on that goal is.  All the other goals I have seen from him could be duplicated by other skillful players, Yaya Toure free kicks, Negredo nutmegs, or Aguero  flicks, yet I have not seen another player duplicate the complexity of that goal against Newcastle.  If I had to break it down:

1. The ball played to him is horrible (without hindsight), 99.9% of the time the defender wins or the keeper claims.
2. he is looking over his left shoulder, eyes on the ball, yet also seeing Coloccini as well as noticing Krul from his peripheral vision.
3. Coloccini pushes him.
4. Controls the ball on his shoulder, a ball that was driven from the Liverpool half.  Its an insult to say he controlled the ball, he did much more than that, its ultra close control, with a side order of cushioning.  This was his first touch of the ball.
5. Moves the ball around the keeper, at speed.  This was his second touch of the ball.
6. And finally slides the ball into the net, shoots the pistols and kisses his hand.  Third touch of the ball.

If you really look at that goal, you will see that he is so limited to what he can do, so nearly all options are taken away from him.  He had to play that to absolute perfection, literally zero margin for error.

Is, in your opinon, this goal scored by Luis against New Castle the best one ever scored by a Liverpool player?

If there is another goal better than this one I beg you to show it to us in this page.
But...i am not sure which goal is his best goal among 3 o 4 goals mentioned in the list.
The Free kick goal against Everton was not mentioned here...all his goals against Spur were magnificent...
I believe that Luis never played for Uruguay as good as he is playing now for Liverpool...despite Luis always played well for our country.
But now...he became a better player...probably because he is so happy about his family living in Liverpool and his daughter learning another language besides spanish.

I can honestly say it's the best goal I've ever seen, by any player, for any team.

There are some great ones though (Bergkamp is the first that springs to mind), it could be this is just the most recent in memory.
