The former Chelsea player Gary Johnson has said he was paid £50,000 by the Premier League club not to go public with allegations that he was sexually abused by the club’s former chief scout Eddie Heath.

It has been reported that Chelsea made a payment to an individual in the last three years following allegations regarding Heath. Johnson has waived his anonymity to say he was the former player in question.

“I think that they were paying me to keep a lid on this,” Johnson said in the Daily Mirror, which reported that Chelsea had waived the confidentiality clause in Johnson’s settlement, which was made in 2015. “Millions of fans around the world watch Chelsea. They are one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world.

“All their fans deserve to know the truth about what went on. I know they asked me to sign a gagging order and how many others are there out there. They may have paid others for their silence. I hope and pray no clubs are allowed to cover this up – no one should escape justice. We need total transparency now for the good of the game. What makes me so angry is that I went to them to say I had been abused and they basically said, ‘prove it’.”

What I don't get Chelsea are saying they are doing their own investigation and will pass all info onto the FA.

Sorry but why aren't the police straight into the club investigating what when on and I would say that who ever the club was.

If true its covering up and near enough aiding and abetting a child molester that's a police matter not a FA one.

If that payment was only paid a few years ago someone high up must have Ok the payment.

Feel for these fellas deeply. Must have taken such courage to come forward, especially Andy Woodward in the first instance. Some of the interviews I briefly watched have been horrific and heartbreaking, that one with Victoria Derbyshire, in particular, really brought home to me the bravery of these men.

Just realised that I taught a kid who would have been coached by Bob Higgins in the late 90s.

PL rules that Chelsea didn't break any rules by not reporting child abuse in 2014.

Time for the police to make a ruling on that not the PL.
