I'd like us to play whatever allows us to play a high back line - I suspect that means toure and sakho in a 2

I think it could be Toure-Agger-Sakho. Skrtel is doing well, but he drops deeper than the other two, almost like a sweeper, so it pulls players back. It plays to his strengths, and he's done very well this season with it, but Agger, Sakho and Toure together allow us to push on a bit higher, I think. But no point in moving Skrtel out of the defence when he's playing well.
Better looking than Samie.

Chamakh beat him to a header yesterday. I was stunned.

This man is a beast. Exactly the sort of center back we've needed to get in since Sami left.

Still would prefer Agger in place of Skrtel long term
Me too and to answer the point made re Sakho, he has looked good if a little raw, but iirc he did lose quite a number of aerial duels against Chamakh (yes Chamakh) yesterday.

I agree with the Toure Agger Sakho idea. Skrtel has done a good job no doubt but to me he is still a liability. He is prone to a howler and he dives in too often when he should stand his man up. Very good back up to have though.

He clearly is lad. He's displayed attributes that suggests he's going to be some player. A unique CB in our setup currently- a beast in the air, confident, tackles hard, has a deft touch, loves ball at feet, has an eye for the unforseen- a mix of all the attributes we have had the past few years in our CBs and to a high standard.

Once he's settled in and it gets polished, I can see the lad being one of the first initial names on the sheet for yonks.

I agree with others re: Sakho over Agger.
I said it last year when Skrtel got dropped and was slated and it was "Agger is better" etc etc... I think last year they were both guilty of many bad performances and several individual errors.
I think it's easier to gloss over Agger's issues and mistakes because he's a tidy, decent footballer and looks composed playing the ball out but defensively he is caught out far too often.

I think getting in Sakho and Toure is the kick up the arse the pair of them needed and they'll both be on their game much more now, because of the competition and the threat of being dropped.
Skrtel has been great for a few games now, as have Sakho and Toure ..but Agger is VC and there's no way he'll be benched for too long.

It's great that we now have competition for places at the back...REAL competition.

No room for error.

I think an attribute thats not talked about a lot in addition to his beast mode is his passing.

He seems very adept to playing vertical balls through the midfield, something which the others dont do often. It's refreshing to see and puts us on the front foot for an attack.

He's quite deceiving on the ball as he has a very languid and leggy style but he has great touch and vision.

Yes, his passing ability has been a great bonus. He is composed with the ball at his feet and puts it forward often. Love that about his game.

No, not the only one.

His physical presence alone is worth a starting place (even if you think he's not a great defender yet, he's obviously not shite, and good enough to start at this level). We need that in our defence and have missed it every season since Sami left.

He'll be facing the likes of Lukaku and Giroud soon enough though, so we'll see how he handles them, but you'd feel better about our defence going up against players like that if Sakho (and Toure) are in that defence to be honest.

Don't forget the two played in Ligue 1 simultaneously. Sakho knows what's up.

Looks strong. Still worried about him being a little clumsy and going in recklessly.

Love Agger, but it's worrysome how many times he's at fault for goals, especially arial challenges.

Sakho is boss and so is Agger. Expect Agger's performance level to increase if he is to play regularly. I also think at the moment, having Kolo in our starting XI is very important. I don't think we'll shift from 3-4-1-2 to some other formation this whole season even when all injured players are back fit. Kolo-Agger-Sakho will be one hell of a defense to break, with Glen and Jose as wingbacks.

Just nit picking, because he looks a great buy, but top of my head, he was pretty reckless in his first game, namely Jonjo's first goal. But as his first game, that can be forgiven.

Quite a few moments in the Southampton game i was at, he went in a couple of times he lunged and missed the ball completely, and in the Palace game he was committed to a few challenges where a better class player would have been able to work around and be completely in the clear for an attack.

Looks a beast of a player though. Hope the form continues.

It was his first game lad! He's currently playing out of his skin- on a high to keep up with the pace of the league, while busy getting to know so many new things around him- so give him a break. You have said that he could be forgiven for it, but why even mention it then in the first place?

His FIRST game in the Prem for a totally new side against totally alien defenders - of course he would display LOTS that would make you "concerned".

His tackles were not reckless. They were sweet, firm tackles- but you could see he's not used to the pace and quick reaction of players in the Prem. If his tackling was such a concern, he would've cost us by now and the main concern spouted about him across this board, the media and phone-ins would've been his tackling- as per Jonjo. It would've been parroted- by idiot and sage alike, but that's not the case.

See the pictures I have attached. The very start of the game. What is he doing there?? Leads to the first chance.

Didn't do anything wrong here, all he's doing is going for the header with Kebe. He doesn't win it but does enough to make Kebe miss it, the ball tamely bounces to Skrtel who heads it straight to a Palace player. After that Sakho is tracking Kebe into the box.

In your other example its up to Skrtel and Sakho to communicate which one is going to go for the header and which one is going to cover. After that he does quite well positionally, spots that the threat is going to come from the two open players on the edge of our box.

Overall I'm really impressed with Sakho. Apart from the first half at Swansea when he was diving in all over the place his decision-making and awareness has been excellent, married with his physical abilities and we've got a great player.

Well, you have heard wrong.

The agreed transfer fee for Sakho was €18 million (£15 million), and that includes performance incentives.

Didn't get to watch the Crystal Palace game live, but just watched it, and Sakho is legitimately a world class beast of a human being.

Absolute cracking buy by the looks of it.

The one thing about monster centre halves that are also quick, is that there's no "figuring them out" like there can been with say, Coutinho for example.

"Okay, you know his strengths, he's a monster, he a good tackler, good in the air, quick on the ground....soooo good luck"
