I get the feeling that he's desperate to get to the World cup and it may be a case of him trying too hard.  He had his worst game of the season yesterday.  But, to use a cliche, 'form is temporary, class is permanent'.  He just needs to sort out his head and get back to the basics.  You don't need to score more Phil.  We've got two top drawer strikers for that.  All you have to do is start providing them with the service you did last year.  It might not get you into the Brazil squad but then again, it might also.  Gotta play to your strengths.

Again, Alberto must be wondering what has to happen for him to get an opportunity.

To be fair, Alberto's not really in the picture when they're all fit.

Coutinho needs some time out, I love the lad - he's been a revelation since he joined us - but he's not really been playing that well lately, and it was leading up to a shocking performance against Villa. I've never seen him so out of sync with Suarez and Sturridge. Maybe the problem was that Villa were just too good for us in the middle of the park. And to be honest, we've been done by shit teams who don't give us any space in the middle quite a lot with Rodgers' team. Sticking Gerrard as the sole deep CM gave no one any space in the middle of the park.

Anyway, I think we have the options to cover - Gerrard moves further up the pitch, supports Sturridge/Suarez, with Lucas, Henderson and Allen behind.

Agree with BazC, I think Coutinho is looking knackered and if we had a stronger squad he'd be getting a few games rest.

Feel for the lad

Its a weak comparison but Coutinho reminds me of a lad that use to with us every Tuesday & Sunday on the park, he was a far, far better footballer than everyone else and could go past anyone any time he wanted. It was effortless for him.
Coutinho once did that for us, he'd turn and skip past people for fun, indeed he was capable of making professional footballers look silly. He just needs to get that attitude back, he needs to be told you are better than any of you're opponents and its your right to play round them as if they're not there.
I'm not sure if its through rest or reassurance, but it needs to be drawn back in to his game.
A good performance tomorrow could do him the world of good.

It would be good for him to have a good game. Bad thing is he seems to go missing in the big games.

I think not having a solid LB behind him isn't helping things. Not only does it mean he has to hold the wing position a little more, but without someone bombing on past him and taking a man with him he is often left with at least 2 opposition players around him as soon as he gets the ball.

Needs a few games through the middle. That's where we saw the best of him last year when him and hendo swapped. His weight of pass was spot on everytime last year where as every through ball this year into a decent position has been slightly over hit.he Is taking too many shots on at the moment Also which is ok if he scores one or two but his finishing leaves a lot to be desired.

This is why I cannot wait till we get Enrique back, tank going forward, overlaps a lot of the time, gives Coutinho an extra option or at least takes a man away from him and has brilliant link up play with Suarez! We really have missed him this season!

Yep, even if he isn't the most amazing full back, his ability to get up and down the wing really creates a huge amount of space and I think Coutinho is missing that.

What a great performance from him today. Amongst the number of positives that we can take from this game, I think Coutinho's performance was the number 1. He was pressing hard all game and showed some fantastic touches and an exquisite pass for sturridge's first

Much better coming from deep. If he can play in a 1-2 against Everton, he can play it against anyone. Rodgers will be really impressed and refreshed that he has that option now.

That's more like it. He has the ability to hold on to the ball anywhere on the park. So even if he's a little deeper he has that ability to retain possession. Did that brilliantly tonight

Superb player and shows his influence again. He is one of the first names on the teamsheet as far as I'm concerned. He's one of our multipliers.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.
