Can you help Hillsborough families identify witnesses?

Help find Hillsborough heroes who tried to save my dad, says daughter of disaster victim

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2013/03/05/help-find-these-two-men-who-helped-alan-mcglone-at-hillsborough-100252-32923523/

by David Bartlett, Liverpool Echo Mar 5 2013

THE daughter of a Liverpool fan who died at Hillsborough has launched an appeal to trace two fans who carried him on a stretcher.

Claire McGlone was just two years old and her sister Amy, five, when their dad, Alan, died in the 1989 tragedy.

The 26-year-old is now appealing for the fans who helped carry her dad to come forward.

The picture shows Alan – who was 28 years old at the time – being carried by two paramedics, two police officers and two fans.

The Kirkby family believes the fans could have vital information about what happened to Alan after the crush in the Leppings Lane.

Claire said the family do not know whether Alan was dead or alive at the time.

The mum-of-two said: “I don’t know who the two fans are and they probably have not realised that they have played a big part in my life, but they have.

“My dad got taken from one end of the pitch to the other end.

“I need to speak to them because I don’t understand why he was not taken straight to the morgue.

“They might not have anything for me.

“They might say ‘we ran him across the pitch and that’s it’.

“If that’s all they can give, it will be peace of mind for me.”

Alan was one of 96 fans who died following the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest and his family are still fighting to discover the full circumstances behind his death.

Claire said the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report last September – which revealed the full truth of the disaster – had re-opened many questions for the family.

She said: “It’s taken over again. When we were young it took over my mum’s life, now it has taken over mine and Amy’s.”

“Since we were 18, we have started reading more and more about things.

“Some times we’ll go on the computer at 10 at night and still be on it at six in the morning.

“It has not been easy at all. You just can’t believe that people [in authority] would do some of the things they did.

“I think to myself ‘that’s my dad. He was a working man who had two kids, how can you describe him like that?’ It really gets to you.”

Amy, 29, and Claire have already taken to social networking site Twitter to appeal for the men in the picture to come forward.

Claire added: “He could be dead or he could be alive at that point and to not know this long on is really getting to us.”

Claire can be contacted on Twitter via @claire_mcglone and Amy can be reached at @amyjft96.

Alternatively, email david.bartlett@liverpool.com with information.

I have cropped and enhanced the image a bit. It has been doing my head in who he looks like.

He has got a look of the fella who used to sell the papers outside Central station used to go all the aways, pretty sure his name was George and he lived around the Durning Rd area. Might not be him but it might be worth a try.

Thought about this befoe listening to the anfield wrap (which is not to be missed this  week ), Panorama reporter Peter Marshall (his programme is broadcast Monday ) who is a survivor mentioned - just in passing - that one of his mates was one of those heroes who saved many many lives and only found out about it recently after seeing a picture or some video footage of himself. Up until then he had no memories of events that day.

Hillsborough victim's daughters return to stadium after 24 years

 4:07PM, TUE 28 MAY 2013

The daughters of one of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster walk in their father's footsteps in tonight's ITV Evening News, retracing his last hours at that ill-fated FA Cup semi final.

Amy and Claire McGlone have been granted unique access to the Sheffield Wednesday ground where their Liverpool supporter Dad Alan lost his life in 1989.

I accompanied the McGlones on an emotional visit. It is the first time one of the Hillsborough families has been able to do this.

They find the exact spot where their father was standing, walk down the tunnel as he and other Liverpool supporters did that day and see the site of the makeshift morgue.

The sisters, who were five and two when they last saw their father, have spent years studying official documents, photographs and video in order to piece together his last movements.

Their amateur detective work was studied by the panel that produced a damning report ruling that 41 of the 96 fans who died that day could have been saved.

Sheffield Wednesday agreed to Amy and Claire visiting Hillsborough to help them get a clearer picture of Alan McGlone's last hours.

An exclusive report of their visit can be seen in ITV Evening News and News at Ten.

New photo could hold key to Merseys sisters' hunt for dad's Hillsborough helper

13 Aug 2013 12:55
Photographer shows man believed to have helped 28-year-old Alan McGlone
Sisters Claire and Amy McGlone want to find the fan on the left climbing the fence who may have helped their dad Alan at Hillsborough
A newly-discovered picture could hold the key to a daughter's quest to find two Liverpool fans who tried to save her father's life at Hillsborough .

Claire McGlone's dad Alan, 28, died in the tragedy when she and sister Amy were young children.

Earlier this year Claire, from Kirkby, appealed for help identify to two supporters seen carrying her dad on a stretcher after he was pulled from the fatal crush at the Leppings Lane end of the ground.

Since the appeal a new picture has come to light which appears to show one of the men at an earlier stage, climbing free over the fence at the front of the overcrowded central pens.

Claire, who was just two years old at the time of the tragedy, said she was sure the image showed a man pictured in a previous shot at the front of the stretcher as it was carried across the pitch.

Alan McGlone, who died at Hillsborough
She said: "The main reason for it is the distinctive Adidas Samba trainers which both men are clearly wearing.

"He also has a double crown on his head which looks the same in both pictures."

Both Claire and her sister Amy are hoping to have the opportunity to meet the fan.

She added: "We'd like to meet him and thank him so much for what he did, and also to see if there is any information he can give us about what happened."

The sisters say they do not know whether Alan was dead or alive at the time he was carried on the stretcher by the fans, as well as two police officers and two paramedics.

Amy and Claire McGlone
With the new inquests into the 96 deaths set to start in March next year, they are hoping more details will emerge to help establish the truth surrounding their father's death.

Claire said: "We still have lots of unanswered questions and we are hoping this man could answer  some. But even if he can't we would still like to speak to him and let him know how much what he did means to us."

Anyone who thinks they may have information on the fan, seen on the left of two men climbing the fence in the picture, should call 0151 4722454 or email Steve.Graves@trinitymirror.com

Sister of Hillsborough victim wants to trace the men who helped her dying brother
20 Jan 2014 09:42

Hopes the four men will shed light on what happened to Andrew Brookes

She said: “I found two people from the pictures in 1997 but I really want to find more of them now.

“I’ve been trying to piece together exactly what happened to Andrew for almost 25 years now and keep getting little bits of the picture.

“Things are finally coming together and I am just so desperate to find these witnesses and get the last pieces of the jigsaw.”
