Worth noting that tactical brobdingnagian, Mark Hughes is basically playing a Stoke side from which the long ball stereotype was derived.

Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that Ibrahim Affelay is on the bench for Stoke; he's not played for them since an April training ground injury ruptured his cruciate ligament in his knee. Always good to see a player come back from shit like that.

Early half chance with a cross from the right-hand side by Wij, but no one in quite the right place to convert.

Fucking typical, someone wants some work done right on kick off... Will do them a half arsed job, and be right back.

The boy Mane looks up for it this afternoon. Hopefully absolutely shellacking himself before the AFCON, where he doesn't play and gets sent home early for being too boss for the tournament.

Blarg; indolent passing in the 'D' there costing us a shooting chance.

These Stoke players look like extras from Men in Black at the moment.

Fuck me.

1-down after a piss poor clearance and Mignolet concedes at his near post following a header by Walters.

Totally gone to pieces since I had to go and fix some computers in work, so soz about that Reds. I'm back now, so fully expect Anfield to light up and us to score 6.

Giving these duck egg blue bastards far too much time on the ball at the moment. Hopefully this game doesn't have the same effect on my tummy as the turkey curry I had yesterday, did.

CLOSE

Off the line by Crouch (I think) from a Firmino shot. The Stoke penalty area has been like the OK Corale for the last 5 minutes or so.

First genuine dip in tempo in the half here (caveat, In was replacing an Nvidia Quadro graphics card for 6 minutes). Couple of niggly knocks and some chances which have come to nothing.

Very Yin/Yang half at the moment for Liverpool. Every one good thing they have done, has been entirely countered by something utterly abject.

If you can call it a chance (I'm taking anything at this stage), Origi has a header which doesn't even threaten the same postcode the Stoke goal is in. Bit better from the Reds though.

Keep losing the ball in stupid places and giving Stoke unnecessary momentum.

Almost immediately after the kick off 'Wee' Joe Allen gets a booking for a deeply ordinary challenge on Wij. Bit more force in the challenge and it would have given the ref a big decision.

Goal was a bit of a mess and I now don't remember a great deal about it because I was hyperventilating.

Lallana tucked it in from a tight angle on the right after the first effort was cleared.

Bobby puts it over from about 15 yards. Probably an inch over Grant's bar, but always rising.

More Reds pressure here leads to Grant claiming a brave high ball. Be absolutely smashing to get a second before half time.

Liverpool with a lot of recent possession, but little to show for it. 3 minutes to go plus stoppage time in this half.

OH DID THEY DO SOMETHING WITH THAT POSSESSION?

Firmino takes a pass after some Lallana trickery and places it deftly past an outstretched Grant, hits both posts for 2 bonus points and goes in.

Reds lead 2-1.

First proper chance of the half for the Reds there as Milner does great work down the left, exchanges some passes and a 1-2 leads to him taking on an uncharacteristically exuberant shot which whistles to the left of Grant.
