TV, prozone, EA anything but real football but then again in the emails JWH in 2010 made it clear that he thought the brightest and best didn't currently work in Soccer.

No. The emails said that the best and the brightest didn't currently work in English football. Which isn't wrong as at the time we were being purchased, the top managers in the world were all plying their trade in other leagues. It's prevarication to suggest otherwise.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

What Peter Moores had to say about becoming Liverpool FC chief executive

Quote
I interviewed the very charismatic Peter Moore. I would never have thought that one day he would replace Ian Ayre as the CEO of Liverpool Football Club.

He takes up the post this summer.

I was fascinated to find out he is friends with one of the richest men in the world, Bill Gates. Also, that he’s had dealings with Donald Trump.

So who is he?

Peter is a Scouser from a tough neighbourhood in Liverpool.

When I met him, he was over here from America, where he lives, to give the keynote speech at the International Festival of Business.

He said it was strange to be at the ECHO arena, as his dad was a docker all those years ago.

His mum was a nurse at Alder Hey Hospital. He was born in Sefton General and the family lived on Scottie Road.

He’s been gone from Liverpool for more than 30 years.

When he comes back on one of his frequent visits, it’s always emotional and he loves the way the city has gone from strength-to-strength.

The company he’s been working for is worth nearly $5bn and it does a tremendous amount of business in the UK, so he’s back and forward all of the time.

I asked Peter how he got where he is today?

He said his dad had The Gay Cavalier Pub, in Garston, then moved to a pub between Wrexham and Chester.

They were tough times in Liverpool, but he is fiercely protective of his roots.

Peter told me he was a decent footballer, but put those energies into becoming a PE teacher before moving to Long Beach, in California, to work at a soccer club.

He and his girlfriend (now wife of 35 years) went with just £2,000 and they settled into the American way of life.

He then got his Masters Degree.

After that, he finished up selling football boots.

One thing led to another and he became President of the company, Patrick Boots.

He was spotted by Reebok. They wanted to get into the global footwear business.

He was recruited and ended up as the Senior Vice-President at the age of 45.

He then had a complete career change, and went into video gaming with Sega, where became the Head of Marketing: “It went so well, we were spotted by Microsoft and got involved with marketing the Xbox for five years.”

Then another move, he became President of EA Sports.

Because of his know-ledge of sports and videogames and his marketing skills, he was set on a very successful path in business.

He’s got three children who have all done well for themselves.

Talking to him, I know I only scratched the surface of a fantastic career so far.

Me being me, I had to ask Peter about Bill Gates – one of the richest men in the world. Peter came straight back with “he’s one of the greatest people of our times”.

He went on to tell me that Gates has taken £49bn of his wealth, gone to other billionaires and taken billions off them, because he wants to change the world.

“He does so much that people have no idea about.

“He’s a regular guy, who goes to the movies with his family.

“A very involved father, that does what dads do with their kids - and they go to regular schools.

“The foundation he has set up with his wife is doing big projects. He wants to cure the world of malaria. He wants to make sure that no children in Africa are born with Aids, he just wants to make a difference.”

I asked Peter, at the time, if he had any desire to come back to Liverpool?

He said most definitely, as his passion for his home city and his team gets greater as he gets older. “I love the new stand. In 1959, I walked through the gates of Anfield with my dad, Terry Moore, and fell instantly in love with the club. Shankly had just been hired. I sadly lost my dad, who was a true red. So much so, on his tombstone, it reads ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.”

What I loved about this man is he’s never forgotten his roots and the tough times growing up, which has made him who he is today.

It’s going to be interesting to see how he deals with his new position as LFC’s Chief Executive Officer, and just what he’ll bring to the table.

Moore sent a letter to other people in the game industry the day he left EA for the club. I've attached a full copy to this post.

Here's the video he made, from his YT channel:

as a gamer myself... yeah, there are (sub) communities that are really toxic. Have you heard about the "Gamergate" controversy? Basically a misogynist/homophobic/transphobic crusade disguised as an "ethics in gaming journalism" movement, including online harassment, doxxing and other vile stuff.

Even beyond that low point of existence itself, it's hard to reason with fanboys. I mean, some of them care incredibly much about the critical score/rating a game receives they're willing to harass reviewers just because they didn't like some game the mob liked.

On the other hand, you've got gaming communities doing fundraising for charities, being welcoming and protective of "outsiders", others that champion diversity so on. So, in a nutshell, there's a lot of huge assholes in the world and a lot of them are gamers - but not all gamers are assholes.

The article bares no resemblance to its title. It's just clickbait. Sounds like it took place before he was even named as the new CEO. The guy seemed more interested in Bill Gates. Baffling that he's suprised to hear he's friends with Gates after working for him for years. Top research.

A self made scouser is the kind of guy you hope will take the fans' concerns seriously and wont tolerate any bullshit from outsiders.

The man's resume is remarkable and he will already have a very formidable reputation.  He's the sort of guy you would hope could erode the influence and legacy of the likes of David Gill.  Given his background on the commercial side of gaming, the cut and thrust of Premier League politics should be right up his street.

The lack of leaders at the top of the club with actual experience in the sport is depressing. It's all very well appointing a self-professed fan, but how about someone who has spent decades leading a club for a change of pace, rather than yet another corporate?

He's CEO, of course he's going to be 'another corporate', like Levy, Kenyon, Barwick, Dein, etc. were when they took up their roles.

People seem to think being a CEO at the football club is some sort of stand alone job which you need decades of experience doing before you're any good at it, when in fact in this day and age with how clubs are structured it's pretty easy to bring over experience from within the business/other sporting markets and be extremely successful.

I've sort of seen this guys career progress from the dreamcast days (being a longtime gamer)
and he's not really put a foot wrong, I know he's a bit of a controversial figure but who isn't in gaming, there's a lot of fanboyism.

Personally I think this is as good a fit as you're going to get. I think, and hope it will prove a really good appointment.

Let's all just calm the fuck down in relation to our new CEO. He's not coming here to be anyone's friend. He won't be dealing with transfers like the last CEO. He will be here developing new ideas to squeeze more money from customers/fans, EA style.

I'd rather judge him on what he's done recently than trying to force one of his main selling points as a local lad done good for himself. He made a lot of money for EA while simultaneously turning a lot of customers against the company. Customers who still continued to shovel money into EA's pockets. He's a perfect fit for here.

Why not judge him on what he does, rather than what he has done? I mean he is working under a different remit, for different stakeholders, in a different market. It's hardly comparable.
