Iggy Pop Appreciation Thread
« on: March 12, 2017, 02:30:07 pm »
Just wanted to start a thread on him - pretty obsessed with the last album.

Been investigating some older stuff I didn't know and some brilliant songs.

He's boss. I read Nick Kent's The Dark Stuff autobiography though which basically said when Iggy was on smack he turned into a selfish wanker.

Classic tracks. Stooges riffs were one of my first fumblings on guitar but as a front man he was ahead of his time. His work with Bowie is utterly classic! The Idiot is one of my favourite albums, I'm glad it became iconic. Ian Curtis listened to it before he snuffed himself, and Trainspotting uses his stuff well obviously.

Next week marks the 30th anniversary of the release of The Idiot as it happens.

30 years since he released his two best albums with Bowie who also put out Low and Heroes the same year. Hard to fathom that sort of creative output in a calendar year.

American Caesar is my favourite album from Iggy.

Been listening to this today as fairly similar to the latest one.

75 mins long but seems to flow well.

Kill City is superb. Massively underrated album.

The Stooges are the best band of all time.

Iggy is boss.

Been lucky enough to see him at a few music festivals over the years and he's always been great. Enjoyed the album he did with Josh Homme recently as well.

Raw Power is a classic.

I dare anyone to put on 'Shake Appeal' and not move a muscle. Impossible. :)
