"Though we are aware of the irreparable damage caused by this terrible event, the clubs understand that now is the moment for unity, support and assistance for Chapecoense."

"In this regard, the clubs announce solidarity measures towards Chapecoense, which will consist of, among other things:

(I) Free loan players for the 2017 season;

"(II) A formal request to the Brazilian Football Confederation for Chapecoense not to be subject to relegation to Serie B of the Brazilian championship for the next three seasons. If Chapecoense finish the championship in the bottom four, the team in 16th place would be relegated."

"This is the minimum gesture of solidarity that is at our disposal at present, but it is endowed with the most sincere objective of reconstructing this institution of Brazilian football, which has been lost."

When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm, there's a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your hearts
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your hearts
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Rest in peace

the fact they were travelling to a cup final, their equivalent to our Europa League you could say. It makes all the more painful, if that is possible? imagine those fans so excited to see their team perform in a huge match and this happens. sickeningly sad, it really is.

I´ll say something that might surprise you. Real life is different to computer games.

It was the most important match in their history, by far. Chapecoense is a small club from a small city in a small state. They were in the 4th division in 2009 and reached the top flight in 2014.
'You put Pele face-to-face with me and I'll tell him: Pelé - you, me, any so-and-so...we can't deal with Garrincha, he's better than all of us.' Eusebio

I was going to say I wasn't familiar with them, but had a vague recollection of their name via gambling sites or such like. that explains it.

Brazilian teams have offered to loan any players to them without any fees and said they want them exempt from relegation for 3 years.

Atletico Nacional have also asked the Brazilian FA to award Chapecoense the Copa Sudamericana they were due to play in

As with many, I'm sure, this was the very first news I came across on arrival to work this morning - absolutely heartbreaking.  Can't begin to imagine how it must feel for the families, friends, and supporters of those involved with the Club.

their captain played for atletico Madrid for a couple of years, played with the likes of forlan, de gea, aguero, Luis garcia

Cleber Santana.

Cleber Santana was a regular in the side during 2007/08, playing regularly alongside Luis Garcia and Maxi Rodriguez.  I started keeping an eye on Atleti's results that season, due to Luis's move...very sad to note Cleber Santana's name amongst those so cruelly lost.

Credit to Lucas tonight.  I'd never question anybody for wishing not to turn in for work in those circumstances, but delivering a solid performance - as captain - is definitely amongst a range of perfect and most respectful tributes to those who can't be out there doing their thing on their big day.

The more I read about this, the more heartbreaking it gets. Ultimately, football is as much about playing together as a team, standing up for one another and giving it everything one has to bring joy to all those around as it is about technique, skill and goals. It's the most emotional of sports. It's the one with the most unwritten rules about how one treats opponents/teammates. It is to my mind the sport that most completely reflects the human condition more than any other. Maybe, that's why I feel as strongly as I do about it.

Through some accident, we stumbled upon a sport that is most reflective of life itself where dogged determination and caring for one another can actually take a group places. And that is why it is so heartbreaking to see a bunch of players pass away so tragically. They exemplified all that is good about football. A small team with inexpensive players who combined into something far greater than the sum of all parts and reached the final of a prestigious tournament. And a team that clearly was a team in the truest sense of the word. Maybe that's why I feel so sorry for the team and their fans, the players and their families. This isn't even mentioning the many others who also lost their lives that I also feel really sorry for.

RIP to them all.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Should've been the Copa Sudamericana Final. Instead, just 90 minutes of silence - to honor and remember the victims. It's a very lovely gesture.
