Wow.... Australia just got skittled. All the bowlers bowled well. Going to the game tomorrow so I hope that the rain stays away

Class bowling on a very sporting pitch - love to see this in Test cricket, rather than the roads we see most of the time.
Yep. The days where 300 was a good score were great.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of grass on a wicket. Aussies need some early wickets here.

I think they're top 3, but given how easily SA were dismantled by England you'll see positions shuffle around a lot more than just 1, 2 and 3 being the same for long periods of time.

Nothing Warne or McGrath could have done about today, just top grade bowling from Pakistan.

36/4 now.
Agreed, I'm just enjoying the fall back to mortality. I suspect India will dominate in the near future but nobody will be as strong as Australia have been from 1992-2007 for a very long time.

I think Warne/McGrath did impact positively on the batsmen though because they always knew that those two would invariably dig them out and thus played with real confidence.

The likes of Hayden/Langer would not be thought of as the legends that they are if they were not in the supreme winning side and it was those 2 great bowlers that gave that edge to them.

Rain clearing in Sydney tomorrow - drizzle tonight. Will be overcast for the first part of the morning. If the Pakistanis (note to Branno - I was pulled up on here for calling the Pakis, Pakis as apparently its a racial epithet in Britain) survive the first hour and a half they really should be able to settle in. Mind you, Australia has an attack just made for this pitch, so its going to be very difficult early on for the Pakistanis. Could be an early test either way.

It really was class cricket today - great to watch.

I think Warne and McGrath's lives were made easier by having the likes of Hayden and Langer around so I think they deserve their place in history as well.

Agree with the other points - whilst I always want Australia to win, I (like many) of Aussies are enjoying the competitive nature of Test cricket these days.

It appears that Punter should have bowled first but there's not many scenarios where that happens anymore and hopefully Bollinger, on his home pitch, Johnson and Siddle can extract as much juice out of the pitch.   It's never good to bat last in Sydney so this match has a couple of twists left - which is just the way it should be :)

It just further illustrate the shitness of his captaincy. He doesnt actually make decisions at the toss, he just bats. He's still scarred from the 2005 Ashes and it's why we have never won the toss and bowled since.

1/122, what a brilliant catch to get rid of Hughes off his own bowling from Kaneria. Almost had Ponting caught and bowled as well when he cut the ball straight into the fielder at silly-point, it lobbed up off his thigh, and Kaneria just couldn't jump high enough to catch it as it flew over his head. Would have been a very strange way of getting out.

This is great cricket to watch - Tubby and Chappelli are going on about how good the pitch is for both bowling and batting and I have to agree. It's a genuine test pitch where everyone has a chance. Great stuff.

6-246, lead of 40 runs. Australia got no chance of winning this anymore. Still, a good day for charity, 7 wickets so far and 3? sixes, with each of those 3 are donating $3000 to the McGrath foundation.

Great turnaround from Melbourne by Pakistan, and bowled well on the first day and then consolidated even further on their strong position to setup this victory.

Been a much more interesting summer than most predicted.

I was watching the highlights of the first days play, when Pakistan were ripping through the Aussies, and assumed that Ponting had lost the toss and was put into bat. Shocked to find out that he actually won the toss and fancied batting on that pitch first.

Great win for Sri Lanka with a new look side (due to injuries). Bit of a wobble when Sangakkara got out but Perera destroyed the Indian bowling.

All held together by Samaraweera with a run-a-ball century. Better known as an obdurate Test batsmen that's his best innings in a ODI.

I think he's scarred from Edgbaston 2005 and just bats first regardless. He's not a great (or even good) captain. Any idiot could have captained a team with Warnie and McGrath in it.

Not sure what the Pakistan captain is playing at here. You would have all your fielders in attacking positions surely...not protecting the boundaries!

30/40 more runs and the Aussies might just fancy themselves.

It's one thing giving the "batsman" a single and attacking the "bowler" but they haven't even attacked the bowler. All they've done is get Hussey "in" when he had a new ball to start with first up.
