From what I've heard, Machine Head pulled out of Sonisphere because the promoters wanted them to essentially play support to a reunited Limp Bizkit(don't blame 'em, Limp Bizkit suck). As for Thin Lizzy, it was a combination of their drummer breaking his collarbone, and then their lead singer leaving the band.

Not sure about why The Sword have pulled out of both Sonisphere and Metallica's Marlay Park show.

I'm dreading Avenged Sevenfold.....all these teenys who will more than likely end up in the moshpit drunk on two beers and getting pummeled by the grownups.
From his stupid, ugly, pug-faced, smarmy, poncing, play-acting, Oh-look-at-me greasy hair to his crybaby, stupid, cheating, dirty antics he can fuck off the horrible little poodle faced gazumpadum.

Out of all those mentioned, I'd be most gutted about missing  The Sword. I really like those guys! Can't blame Machine Head for not wanting to play second fiddle to Fred Durst machine. I've never seen the "thing" about Avenged Sevenfold, to be honet, I've not heard one tune that's even catchy, let alone one that I like. It's just annoying to me, and i certainly wouldn't call it metal. but then that's just me....

Oh and before I forget....Juan. That White Skull you posted up a few days ago was rather enjoyable! Even if the singer (I think it's a bird isn't it?) sounds a lot like Blackie Lawless (that's not a bad thing in my book either as i'm rather partial to some W.A.S.P every now and again)

Don't know if i've found this thread before.

Any Dream Theater fans here? I'm a huge fan, and their new album (Black Clouds & Silver Linings) is immense.

Haha. Awesome.

Seen as we're going into overblown, glitzy glam territory..

Not quite Poison territory, but cartoony anyways and freaking awesome.

Not bad... for a pasty lil' white boy.

Only just getting into them, but I'd agree that the new album is superb. Inspired me to research their back catalogue

See that would be good and I agree with the death to all but metal idea, but it's just really, really bad!

I prefer to hear new bands kicking old school a bit more seriously

Best Metallica album ever?

Master Of Puppets, no ifs, ands or fucking buts. Amazing, from 'Battery' right through to 'Damage Inc.'.
Can't disagree.

It is the blueprint of raw, untamed, unreserved thrash music at its finest. The stunning thing about it is it still sounds very heavy/relevant today.

I'm a younger lad, I'm into Deathcore, Metalcore, Hardcore, Grindcore, pretty much any thing with "Metal", "Death" or "-core" in it I like.

I'm into bands like Parkway Drive, I Killed The Prom Queen, Bring Me The Horizon, August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, Devil Wears Prada, Norma Jean, etc...

I'm listening to Operation Mindcrime by Queensryche at the moment. Man what an absolutely amazing album. Quite why this hasn't been made into a film yet is beyond me. This would make a much better film than just remaking great films from the 70s and sticking Denzel Washington in them. The music is beastly as well, and Geoff Tate has a set of lungs on him.

Love this album. You can tell that they put a lot of thought into everything; the music, the lyrics and the story. Classic.

Lamb of God's latest album, Wrath,  is brilliant,

In your words
Contractor
Broken Hands
Everything to nothing
Choke Sermon

I can't decide which is my favourite song. The whole album is top quality.

They deviated from the norm with death and changed their sound and experimented a bit, which lost themm a ton of fans, as always happens. To be fair, they released an album last year, Serpent Saints, which I got and it's got some fucking brilliant tunes on it, especially Masters of Death, worth checking out.

Aaaargh........I couldn't stand A7X. One of my mates turned to me during their set and said; "They're like the Backstreet Boys of fuckin' metal!".

Now, Alice In Chains........what a set. Amazing. Ended up in a pit for their set, and damn near fell over laughing when the stewards came in to break it up, only for most of the lads to break out the disco dancing moves(think Saturday Night Fever).

Mastodon.....wow. So loud that my fillings rattled.

Was it just me, or did 'Tallica seem a little....flat? They were still way better than A7X, though.

Evile are awesome. An old mate of mine's band have played with them a few times. I've got the demo's with some weird messages from Matt (I think) written on the envelope they sent 'em in. Great band.

I'm having a Skid Row couple of days. Fair dues to a band who can start an album with Monkey Business and end it Wasted Time... That's not to mention giving it a killer title track.

Easily still their best period is Left hand Path and Clandestine, by fucking miles, but good on them for their impressive return to form.

Love the new Coalesce-album, these guys have always been in a league of their own. Not for just any metallover though, this is pure mathcore with a whole lot of edgy noise(rock)-references.
Currently enjoying the latest Artillery-album, a must pick-up for anyone with a heart for old school thrash metal. Nothing special, mind.

The latest Voivod-release is lined up next.

Any other suggestions for a thrash metal-, technical death metal-, mathcore- and stonerrocklover such as myself?

technical death metal

Theory in Practice. Oh, and Cynic if you haven't heard them. But you really should have. Man there's some incredible playing on their albums, especially Focus.

Orodruin are pretty good for the doomier, more classical type of stoner rock. They've got a more, I dunno, organic sound to 'em. It's not just about how low or how slow you can go. There's a purpose to it. It's not Sunn0))). You actually get some harmony guitars in their solos as well which upsets some "purists" I know who can't stand "that widly-widly shit" but I fucking love it, so they can go stick the album up their arse at an angle, the fuckers.

I don't mind them, I just can't stand the artsy faggot brigade that follow them... "Oh it's sooo unique and doomy, and heavy". It's alright like but I despise it when people try to intellectualise it. The same people wouldn't even like it was nothing to do with Stephen O'Malley.

I still think the best thing he's ever done is the Burning Witch stuff. Khanate and Sunn0))) just too sparse for me to enjoy it as much. Crippled Lucifer, for me, is just the right side of evil and unsettling. Khanate and Sunn0))) is someone trying too hard to stretch the formula that worked on that and make it more extreme, and it just descends in to noise. 40 minutes of feedback doesn't really rock my boat.

I especially love one side-project of his, 'Thorr's Hammer'.

On a stoner/black-metalnote: fuck me, that last Goatwhore-album is FUCKING IMMENSE. Awesome (and quite cute) title as well. :)

What's your opinion on Isis' 'Wavering Radiant' btw, Juan? Already one of the top albums of the year imo.
