Booked a hotel near Plaza Mayor. So i'll be right in the middle of the action. :D

For those on this side of the pond or maybe even those on that side, most of the hotel websites like, hotels.com, travelocity, orbitz, etc.. require a prepayment of the room in full, non cancelable. I found this one which does not unless the hotel requires it. So you can cancel 48 hours in advance if something comes up.

You don't think so ? Grazie mille pero, I live in Madrid amico!

It's true though that there still some slower trains from Barcelona to Madrid (4-5 hours) that are cheaper than the Iberia & Spanair "Air Bridge" flights, but the new fast (2,15-2.45h) AVE service is about the same if not more than the flights. Personally I think the AVE is worth it for less stress and hassle than getting on another flight, but you're also correcto that the bus (6 hours) is another option.

ok.
I live in Asturia) and we haven't got the fast way only the cheaper-slow railway. for this reason( Oviedo- Madrid with train is less then 20euro) I thinked wrong. Sorry :)

I'm well up for going to Madrid, but it will be my first game in serious, serious time.
Are my chances any good, or should I just not bother?
If the chances are ok, can someone give me some advice, tips and wotnot.

You might finds that a flight is cheaper. Think Spanish trains are often quite dear (£100+?). We are doing that route out and booked an internal flight - loads of them every half an hour with various airlines.
We are a team of one half.

have had a look at flights tried booking for 11 and price quoted was 34 euros each but by the time you get to check out price had gone up to 60 euros. train workes out just over 100 euros return.

flight would be cheaper if 3 or 4 of you are travelling.

hotel we are staying at in Madrid is next door to main train station so we also have to take in to account price of taxi from airport.

Spanair flights from anywhere in spain to madrid seem very reasonable priced.

Its E35 barca - madrid 1 way and last time i checked the train it was over 70 euro, flight time takes just 80 mins and they seem to go very often.

Have to love the  transport  in spain the way they have it, its great, hence why so many use buses trains etc.

Read that Arsenal got around 3500 for their trip 2 or 3 years ago, about 71,000 for Champs League games.
